Help! My Jets Are On Strike!

HELP! Some of the jets in my hot tub arent working. What do I do?

Lets cover some basic troubleshooting Tips & Tricks you can do which might just fix the issue before you call your Service Tech.

First, check to make sure the water level in your tub is above the filter level. If the water level is below the filter level, add water immediately!

Next, turn the pump on and turn the flange of each non-working jet to see if it has been turned off.

Now, turn the Whirlpool Jet ¼ turn and the jets again to see if they are working.

Check your filter to make sure it is clean and free of debris. A clogged or dirty filter can seriously reduce jet flow and strain your pump. If its been a while since you cleaned your filter, click here for How to Clean Your Filter

If you have recently drained and refilled your hot tub, you might have an air lock. Call your dealer for recommendations to remedy this and prevent in the future.

If you have gone through these basic steps and the jets still are not working, call your dealer for service.

Hot Tub Jets Not Working 10 Things To Look For

Jet issues can happen if there is any airlock present in the system. Also, it can happen due to the excess buildup of calcium in the pipes or the pump. This can result in improper operations clogging the jets. It can also damage the jets to a great extent.

The jets not operating in the right way is a very common problem when it comes to hot tubs. The main issue is regarding three areas. These are:

• One of the jets is not working while others are perfectly fine
• All the jets have stopped working in the hot tub
• While all the jets are working, the pressure of water has significantly reduced

There can be 10 reasons why the jets of the hot tub arent working and these are:

Your Hot Tub Wont Heat Up Properly

If your hot tub wont heat the water properly, it could be the heater element or low flow from your pump. Most heating failure result from corrosion caused by low PH in water supply. Any PH below 7.0 damages the heating element and trips the GFCI breaker. Most problems are manageable with proper water chemistry maintenance, so knowing how to fix a hot tub heater can be be rendered unnecessary in the future with routine upkeep.

To troubleshoot the heater, check the thermostat and filter for damage. A multimeter can help you identify the culprit in the electrical components.

Damaged Or Loose Wiring

While youre searching for corrosion, ensure that all the electrical connections are secure. Give wires a gentle tug to check their connections. Also keep an eye out for other signs of damage, such as melted or burnt wires.

Again, unless youre experienced with electrical wiring, youll want to hire a spa pro or electrician to correct these problems.

Know Your Hot Tub Control Panel

The hot tub control panel is a functional display system that operates all your tubs features. It handles everything from the main power, to the spa jets, and even things like the lights and music.

A standalone hot tub has the control panel built into the top of the tub. This is known as a topside control panel.

It consists of a small screen outfitted with LEDs or LCDs, with various buttons and indicators covered in an overlay. The buttons control the functions and the screen communicates to the user what current function is being carried out.

Both digital and analog panels exist, and theyre designed to work only with specific control boards.

If you have a tub that was built from the ground up, the controls will be housed with the rest of the spa equipment. This is known as a spa side control panel.

Many spa side controls will be linked up with a remote, so you can still access the control system while in the tub. In most cases, the remote will be installed at the tub, and hardwired back to the control panel through tubing.

With recent advances in technology, wireless remotes are also available, although they are usually only compatible with certain controllers.

Fix Your Hot Tub’s Water Quality Problems

Check The Power Supply

If your jetted tub wont turn on or the pumps arent starting up at all, there is a good chance that there is an issue with the power supply or the wiring. Start by turning the tub off and ensuring that it is connected to a power supply. Verify that the breaker hasnt tripped and that the power supply is working properly.

A good way to troubleshoot this is to make sure that the on button has been completely depressed. Far too often, users will realize that the button hasnt been pushed in all the way, resulting in a jetted tub that is not operational.

You will also want to check out the voltage level of your pump this will be covered in the user manual. If theres voltage and your tubs jets arent working, the pump is likely broken, and you will need to replace it. If there is no voltage, the pump has no connection to your power supply and will need to be reconnected.

Why Are Only Half My Jets Working In Hot Tub

If you recently filled your hot tub and there is zero or little pressure coming from your jet nozzles, an air pocket may have formed in the line. Blocked Or Broken Jets

Sometimes, you may notice you have good flow out of some jets, while some jets are barely limping along. In this case, check for worn out jet seals, and then check all nozzles for any debris that could be blocking the flow of water.

If the problem is occurring in all of the jets, look for broken gate valves, and double check your water level to be sure it isnt too low. Check the wet end of your pump to see if something is blocking the water flow or to see if you have a broken propeller.

Jets Are Not Working Properly

Hot tub jets are the hardest working piece of equipment. Jets receive water outflow from the pump. When jets start failing, the most likely case is that your hot tub pump is not working correctly. You will need to diagnose hot tub problems relating to the pump.

Check your pumps priming to make sure it is working properly. Open the access panel and the airlock valve close to the pump. This releases air from the line and purge system, allowing more water to stream through the jets.

Clogged filters or water intakes can also cause jet issues. Clean them to enhance water flow. If you cannot clean the filter properly, you may need to replace.

How Do I Winterize My Hot Tub

Is The Jet Adjustable

Many jets are adjustable at the nozzle or by rotating the outer ring Many can be turned almost off, which increases flow to the other jets nearby. You may find it easier to manipulate the jet adjustment while the pump is off, but it’s not necessary. Try turning the jet nozzle left or right, or turn the jet’s outer ring or “scalloped bezel.”

What Is The Reason For Hot Tub Jets Not Working On One Side

Many hot tubs use two pumps, each in charge of half of the hot tub. If one of these pumps does not operate properly, it might cause the jets in control of that pump to not work. Usually, but not always, pump one is a two-speed pump where low speed runs the heater, and high speed runs the jets. On the other hand, the second pump is a single-speed pump designed to provide the water flow through the jets. The most common cause of jets not working on one side is an airlock in one of the pumps. To test whether there is an airlock in one of the pumps, turn the working pump off and listen to the second one. If you hear any struggle as if the pump is running but with difficulties, then the airlock is causing the jets issue. To release the air, turn off the power to your hot tub and loosen the unions on the air-locked pump. Once you ease the unions, start the pump, and the air will leak out. Turn off the power once again to tighten the unions. After air release, the jets should function properly. The airlock is a widespread issue that occurs when the hot tub is drained and then refilled.

On the other hand, hot tubs with a single pump might have a suction valves issue. These suction valves are positioned inside the hot tub near the floor in the center. Their task is to send the water from the tub to the pump. Hence, if one of the suction valves is clogged or closed for some unknown reason, the pump will not send the water to the jets thus, the jest will not work.

Hot Tub Electrical Problems

One of the reasons why the jets arent working can be the electrical timer issues. Generally, the electrical timer can only control the pumps at low speed.

When it is on, the pressure switch will make sure the hater is running too if the thermostat indicates so. You must have a switch for the thermostat as well as for the timer. When you will switch on the thermostat control, the pump will kick on. In case the pump doesnt, then there can be an issue with the pump and not the timer.

My Hot Tub Jets Are Working With Reduced Pressure

Hot tub jets might work with reduced pressure due to dirty filters, clogged impeller, or limescale build-up in your jets. The hot tub filter plays a significant role and is the key to the clean water pumped through the jets back into the hot tub. Therefore if your filters are old and worn out, it might cause the jets to slow down and operate with reduced pressure.

Moreover, check your impeller for possible obstructions, such as pieces of torn fabric or hairs. However, if there are no visible clogs, calcium build-up inside the jets is possible. It would be best if you removed the jets and soaked them in vinegar to dissolve potential deposits.

Also, one of the reasons why the jets are working with reduced pressure is the low water level. Too little water might cause the air to find its way into the system through the jets.

Finally, if none of the above is the culprit, you should check the valves that operate the hot tub jets. These valves operate automatically and might need some adjustment from time to time. Therefore make sure that these valves are opening and closing neatly.

Tips For Adjusting Hot Tub Jets

If youre troubleshooting weak hot tub jets, there are a few things you can check to see if they need adjustment.

First, check the water level in your tub if its too low, the jets may not have enough water pressure to function properly.

Next, take a look at the orientation of the jets. If theyre pointing in the wrong direction, they may not be providing enough coverage for your entire tub.

Finally, check the filter to see if it needs to be replaced a clogged filter can reduce water flow and cause weak jets.

If youve checked all of these things and your hot tub jets are still weak, its time to adjust them. Start by turning off the power to your tub and opening up the access panel. Locate the screws that hold the jet faceplate in place and loosen them with a screwdriver.

Lift the faceplate off and set it aside. Remove the rubber gasket that sits between the faceplate and the jets. This will allow you to adjust each jet individually. Next, remove the retaining clip from each end of the nozzle assembly.
