City Alleges That Music City Party Tub Doesnt Have A Public Pool Permit Let It Operate For More Than A Year Anyway
Metro officials are trying to shut down the Music City Party Tub, a truck-drawn swimming pool that has garnered major attention since it was introduced on the transpotainment scene in 2019.
Metro, in a lawsuit filed late last month in the Davidson County Chancery Court, says the Music City Party Tub is not a registered business in the state, does not have a business license and most importantly, does not have a public pool permit.
The city is seeking a court order to shut the ride down, citing state health code. Metro cited as a reason for requesting the injunction the need to “assure hot tubs and pools are operated safely without transferring disease.”
According to the lawsuit, Music City Party Tub operator Guy Williams showed up at the Metro Public Health Department some time before April 12, 2019, to ask about requirements for operating a mobile hot tub. An MPHD representative apparently told Williams to bring in design plans, which he did later that day.
He brought the tub itself to MPHD a few days later, and health workers walked through and around the trailer containing the mobile hot tub. No word on whether they tested the waters themselves. The investigators told Williams he needed a public pool permit and told him to fix some design issues. According to the lawsuit, he never returned and was not issued a health permit.
A court hearing to consider the injunction is scheduled for Oct. 13.
Williams did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Just in time for summer, the Music City Party Tub has started rolling down Broadway, Nashvilles main drag. The party tub is a hot tub enclosed in a covered trailer thats pulled behind a pickup truck. Vinyl windows enclose the trailer, so the party tub can be used year-round, rain or shine. Other amenities include access to personalized music playlists, towels, robes and a fridge and coolers.
The trailer can accommodate up to 12 people on tours lasting one hour and 45 minutes, while the tub itself is limited to six or seven soakers. Pricing is between $400-$500 , depending on the time of year. For safety reasons, passengers cant get in or out of the hot tub until the vehicle is at a complete stop, according to the website. A host or hostess is available to serve drinks, change the music and be a general safety monitor.
Owner Guy Williams says the hot tub is kept sanitized using a variety of methods, from UV lights and automated chlorination. The tub can also be adjusted to a range of temperatures, from as hot as 100 degrees for winter hot tubbing to cooler, pool-like 83 degrees during summer.

In the lawsuit, it says the owner of Music City Party Tub, Guy Williams, was told he needed a public pool permit from the Metro Nashville Public Health Department to start his company. But the lawsuit says Williams never got that permit.
In 2020, on a routine check, the lawsuit says Metro Health saw Williams operating the tub. He told personnel he was exempt from the public pool permit. But the lawsuit says theres no such exemption.
In August of 2021, Williams was issued a non-compliance notice. But the lawsuit says the hot tub continues to book groups. The non-compliance notice says if any owner violates the public pool regulations, they commit a Class C misdemeanor. It also says each day after it is not complied constitutes a separate offense.
Hot Tub Party Bus Ordered To Shut Down
The owner of one of Nashvilles famous and popular party buses, Music City Party Tub, has been ordered to stop operating a public pool without a permit, according to a complaint. The business has been operating as an alternative to traditional party buses and limo rental services.
The Tennessean reported that in a lawsuit filed last week, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville requested that the mobile tub be temporarily shut down. Next Wednesday is the date of their hearing.

Hot Tub On Wheels Closed
A Tennessee entrepreneur whose hot tub on wheels is one of downtown Nashvilles best-known party vehicles has been told to stop operating a public swimming pool without a permit, a lawsuit says.
Nashvilles metropolitan government asked a judge to temporarily shut down the mobile tub in a lawsuit filed last week, The Tennessean reported. A hearing is scheduled next Wednesday.
The health department informed Music City Party Tub of the violation in an Aug. 11 letter, according to the report. The party vehicle has been a regular presence in Nashvilles downtown entertainment district since April 2019, touted on a website as allowing at least six or seven revelers to soak at one time.
It was that month that owner Guy Williams stopped by the health department, the agency says, adding staff told him to submit design plans and apply for a pool permit. The party tub on a trailer was inspected and Williams was told what to fix to be approved, but the lawsuit says he never returned.
Health department workers spotted Williams running his vehicle in September 2020 and confronted him about not having a pool permit, according to the suit. It said he claimed he was exempt because the hot tub fell 50 gallons shy of the minimum capacity for a public pool.
The lawsuit said such an exemption doesnt exist. Whats more, it said, the business isnt registered with the state and does not have a county business license.
Williams could not be immediately reached for comment.

Tighter rules could be coming to the party vehicles that slowly circulate through downtown Nashville.
Mayor John Cooper announced Thursday that he has teamed up with state Sen. Steve Dickerson, R-Nashville, to try to give cities more regulatory authority. The measure could rein in the citys menagerie of party buses, rolling hot tubs and kitschy tractors otherwise known as low-speed vehicles, or the transpotainment industry.
The vehicles have been much derided by locals, and theyre wearing on civic leaders as well.
In a statement, Cooper said theyre causing tremendous headaches. And the head of the city tourism agency, Butch Spyridon, said theyve come with unintended consequences. Spyridon said the quirky rides added character at first, but have led to entertainment chaos.
A study from 2018 documented the impact of low-speed vehicles on traffic, highlighting disruptions caused by passenger boardings.
The latest move seeks to give cities like Nashville more power. If approved, the state legislation would allow for more safety rules, limits on rush hour trips and noise caps for large slow-moving vehicles, like the farm tractors that are towing trailers full of people through downtown.
Separately, Metro has been considering a higher permit fee for slow-moving vehicles, which could fund more inspectors. The Blue Ribbon Commission recently discussed the idea, but it has not been formally pursued.
