How Do I Find The Right Hot Tub Temperature

I made a WOOD HOT TUB out of 2x6s

Having taken into account the above safety considerations, your perfect spa soak temperature will probably vary depending on the time of year for example on a hot summers afternoon, you might enjoy a refreshing cooler dip than you will for a mid-winter soak as snow is falling around you.

A good starting point is the average normal body temperature, 37° C / 98.6° F. If its too chilly, slowly increase the temperature until youre comfortable. The stress reducing effects of your spa are lessened as water temperature drops so dont go too low!

Having an easy way to remove and replace your cover will help you use your hot tub more often and will increase the lifespan of your cover. These top-quality systems are designed specifically for Hot Spring hot tubs to provide improved aesthetics, functionality, and a better overall spa ownership experience.

Why Will My Hot Tub Not Stay Hot

This could be down to a faulty part like a failed heater, circulation pump or thermostat, or even simply that there is not enough water in the hot tub. However, if the spa heats up again after use, then your spa is using more heat than your heater can replace. If this is the case, you could fit a larger heater , or you could avoid using the blower, which takes a lot of heat out of your spa. Many spas also turn the heater off when the jet pumps run – there is normally a jumper on the control box to switch on full-time, but again it will take more power, and you must get an electrician to check whether you have the correct supply cable and fuse.

Can You Put Soap Into A Hot Tub

The idea of bubbles in your hot tub may at first appeal, but when the bubbles rise up out of the spa and block the light, and then start to blow around the garden, you will probably change your mind. As a general rule no soap or detergents is best. I personally shower before I use the hot tub, to clean off any shampoo, body wash or detergents in my swimming costume. If I have guests around, I also ask them to shower, so they do not bring any soaps in to my spa. If there is a small amount of soap in the water, then a few drops of Foam Reducer will make the water nice again. The detergents which get into the spa from shampoo and body wash are not really doing any damage, but are not nice to bathe in either.

How Long Does It Take To Fill A Hot Tub

Most, if not all portable hot tubs are filled with a hose pipe. The time it takes to fill it with water will depend on how much water needs to be put into the spa, what size of pipe you are using and your water pressure. If you are in the UK, have reasonable water pressure, and are using a standard 3/4 UK hose and filling a 300 gallon spa, I would expect this to take between 1.5 and 2 hours approximately.

How Do I Reset My Hot Tub Heater

A hot tub heater can be reset in 4 easy steps. Resetting a hot tubs heater is a fairly common practice as they tend to trip from time to time and stop working.

  • First, find the red button known as the hot tubs high-limit reset. It is often located on the hot tubs heater and covered with a red nipple.
  • Second, press the high-limit reset button until you hear it click in place.
  • Now, turn the hot tub back on and ensure that it is once again working correctly. In the instance that the hot tub is not working, it is likely that a breaker panel or ground-fault circuit interrupter .
  • Simply flip the breaker panel switch to turn on, or press the switch on the GFCI outlet.
  • Taking these steps should restore power to the hot tub. At this point, you should have successfully reset the hot tubs heater and successfully restored the hot tub to its working condition.

However, if the hot tub is not working at this point, it is most likely due to a faulty heater element which will need to be replaced in order to fix the hot tub.

    Finding The Perfect Temperature

So long as your hot tub hot water does not exceed the standard maximum temperature, finding the right temperature is up to you. On average, most hot tub owners prefer the water temperature to be within a range of 100-102 degrees F. However, its all subjective.

We recommend upon getting your brand new hot tub installed, you start your water temperature at 98 degrees F. This more moderate temperature will allow you room to be flexible, and you can increase the temperature of the water as you wish.

Best AquaLife Hot Tub Reviews of the Year

Theres no denying how the best hot tubs can quickly turn your backyard into a peaceful oasis, but the eco-minded among you might be wondering about the environmental effects of your new purchase on the planet. As with keeping running costs low, having a lesser environmental impact is all about good hot tub maintenance.

The less frequently you need to drain and refill your tub the better, so keep a good routine when it comes to adding sanitizers and cleaning fluids, as they will keep your water in better condition for longer. The same goes for regular maintenance of your hot tub filter, which is the way to keep detritus out of your water.

Though some environmentally-minded folks may already have homes powered by solar panels, getting a new hot tub may inspire you to think about where your energy comes from and push you to invest in a more eco-friendly source. And as with expenses, well-performing insulation and appropriate sizing can do wonders when it comes to not draining energy resources.

How Hot Is Too Hot In The Hot Tub

On our trip to Yellowstone last week we saw this beautiful deep azure natural hot tub that looked ready for bathing. But, hold on! It was 160 degrees! Seeing all of the natural hot pools that where too scalding hot to use made me think about how hot is too hot in the hot tub. At Olympic Hot Tub Company, we start all new owners at 102 degrees. Children generally prefer it cooler-say around 100. As it gets colder 104 feels about right to most people. The temperature is really a personal preference. What feels hot to some might feel tepid to others.

What you want to do AFTER the hot tub soak will determine the length of your soak as well as the temperature of the water. If you want to feel energized, 10-15 minutes at 102 will be invigorating. Many people soak in the morning with a cup of coffee at this temperature for a terrific full body and mind wake up. In the evening that same temperature will put you to sleep if you stay in 20-25 minutes. At that point youll feel enervated and ready for sleep. See more about health and hot tub soaking on Olympic Hot Tub Companys Health Benefits page. A good thermometer is a must or having a control panel on your hot tub with a temperature reading.

Be sure to check with your doctor if you suffer from any physical aliments that are adversely affected by heat.

Plan Where You Want To Put Your Hot Tub

Where will you hot tub go? This will be a major factor in deciding which type of hot tube to get and the features you’ll need, so plan the location of your hot tub carefully. If you are placing a hot tub outside, it is best to choose a model that holds heat well, so youre not wasting energy by constantly reheating it.

You might also want to consider the view, the distance from your house, and even how visible you will be to your neighbors. If you are placing your hot tub indoors, you might want to choose an area that is well ventilated so condensation doesnt damage your home.

Why Is My Hot Tub Getting Too Hot

How to Flush, Drain and Fill your Hot Tub

The most common cause attributed to hot tubs overheating is a result of the pump running for extended periods of time. This is often due to either extended filtration cycle settings or a malfunction within the control system itself.

The recommended filtration cycle sets a hot tubs pump to run for 2 hours consecutively every 12 hours. This can be fixed by adjusting the temperature settings.

Simply decrease the pumps run time on the hot tubs display until the desired temperature and running times are set. Then, the appropriate temperature should be reached and maintained without the hot tub overheating.

However, if there is a malfunction in the system itself, the issue is deeper and harder to fix. It could be that the hot tubs pump needs to be replaced, or filters might be dirty.

For this reason and many others, it is important to keep proper hygiene and maintenance routines regarding ones hot tub. However, if the tub is cleaned and inspected, and everything appears normal, the hot tub manufacturer should be contacted for help.

    Maintaining A Set Temperature

Many users want their spas to be as energy efficient as possible. Lowering the temperature after use and increasing it right before is not recommended. This will not only cause more wear and tear on your heater element, it also causes unnecessary stress to the circuit board and will not save money.

Unless you are going to be away for an extended period of time, such as a summer vacation, turning down the tub will save little or no energy. It is best for the spa system and element to maintain a set temperature. If your spa cover is in good working order and well insulated, it should have no problem maintaining heat at a low expense.

If your hot tub cover is in poor shape, waterlogged or doesnt fit well, you may be paying out the ears no matter what other energy saving measures you take. Replacing it immediately will save you a bundle.

    Healthy Temperature For Children

Though the CDC states that children under five years old should not use a hot tub, we here at ThermoSpas think you should wait until they are even older to let them use the spa. We recommend first allowing your child to enter the hot tub when they are 10 years old. At this age, they should be able to touch the bottom of the spa with their head out of water. Children should also never be fully submerged in the water.

When children are in the hot tub, you should lower the temperature because their bodies are more sensitive to heat than adults bodies are. According to the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals, you should drop the temperature to 98 degrees F or lower and take your child out of the spa every fifteen minutes at this temperature to give them a break from the heat. During these breaks, give your children a drink of water so that they stay hydrated. Children should never stay in the hot tub for more than 15 minutes at a time when the water is at 95 degrees F.
