How Long Will An Expensive Hot Tub Last

Flint Hills Spas & Pools – How Long Should a Hot Tub Last?

How long your hot tub lasts will depend on a lot of things. As with most things you get what you pay for. And generally the more you spend on a hot tub, the better the quality and the longer it will last.

But the lifetime of your hot tub will also depend on how well you care for it, including how often you have it serviced and how well you keep the hot tub water balanced.

On average, the hot tubs we sell last between 10-12 years. They can last less time if they dont take care of them. But they can also last 15 years plus if you are lucky and take care of them.

We recently had a customer contact us for a new pump. Their hot tub was 16 years old, and it was they first thing they needed to replace. This is rare. But it can happen.

Could A Cat Pop An Inflatable Hot Tub

Just like dogs, cats have claws that can damage or even puncture an inflatable hot tub, if not monitored and left without supervision.

Cats are especially curious pets by nature and prone to exploring their surroundings. Such a mentality causes them to use their claws to test out any new or foreign object in their vicinity, such as an inflatable hot tub.

Cat owners who also have the privilege of having an inflatable hot tub should take precautionary measures to protect their place of relaxation and ensure that no such incidents occur.

It is worth mentioning, though, that inflatable hot tubs are made of strong materials, so puncturing the outer structure by a cat using her claws is not that common. While dogs are heavier and can apply more pressure, cat claws, although sharper, cause ruptures and punctures with a bit more difficulty. Modern materials are designed to withstand certain pressure from sharp objects, so it may be fair to say that such issues do not come up that frequently.

However, it is still possible, if the cat is persistent and claws her way through the outer wall of an inflatable hot tub. The positive side of this is the fact that cats naturally have a hesitance to get wet, so they associate the hot tub with water and tend to stay away.

Factors That Affect How Long An Inflatable Hot Tub Might Last

Price and warranty Firstly, to a certain extent, get what you pay for and the more expensive inflatable hot tubs should be better made and should, in theory at least, last longer. However, a much better indicator is to look at the warranty. No manufacturer is going to offer a warranty for any longer than they confidently expect a hot tub to last so this is a good first point of call.

For example, Bestway/Lay Z Spa are a really popular brand and, if you have a look at their warranty page you will see that they will guarantee the pump for 18 months and the liner/cover for 12 months.

This doesnt mean by any means that they wont work beyond this point its just that this is the period of time that Bestway/Lay Z Spa are confident that their product will work for without any problems. Interestingly, they dont seem to offer a paid extension option for the warranty if you wanted to upgrade.

So, why is this useful? Well, I have read that if you multiply the warranty time by 4 then this should give you an idea of how long things might last. Im not so sure about this it would mean that the Bestway/Lay Z Spa cover and liner could last 4 years and the pump up to six years.

What Is The Average Lifespan Of A Hot Tub

The average lifespan of a hot tub is anywhere from 5-20 years, with two major factors affecting that lifespan the most.

  • Quality. Simply put, a hot tub built with higher quality components will last longer on average than one made with lower quality components.
  • Maintenance. A well maintained hot tub will last much longer than one that hasnt been regularly cared for.

Hot Tub Prices: How Much Does a Hot Tub Cost ?

The average lifespan of a hot tub cover is 5-7 years. However, rough usage and environmental factors such as falling tree limbs and ice can shorten this life span.

When the hot tub cover is heavier than normal, it means their foam core or vinyl cover has become saturated with water. This means it wont be a great insulator.

It will also become smelly and could develop mold or mildew inside.

You can take out the foam and replace it with new foam. If you catch the issue early enough you can also use a repair kit and patch it up. You will need to take out the foam and dry and clean it first.

Finally, you can also purchase a new hot tub cover. These cost between $300 and $500.

Drain And Clean Your Hot Tub

While your hot tub is built with advanced systems to clean your water and filter out contaminants, it will still require a deep clean every few months.

Youll want to drain your hot tub, ensuring all water is out of its system, and use a quality cleaner to gently clean the surface of your shell and around your jets.

This will help keep your shell clean and give you time to remove anything that may cause damage to it if left alone.

After youve cleaned your shell and rinsed it down, you need to thoroughly inspect it and your entire system to ensure there are no cracks or broken seals.

Once youre confident your hot tub is all good, refill using your garden hose and rebalance your water using your pH and alkaline increasers and decreasers.

If the thought of deep cleaning your hot tub and performing a routine inspection causes you stress or anxiety, dont hesitate to contact us to schedule an appointment. Our team of professional technicians is happy to come out and do it for you. We want your hot tub care to be as easy and stress-free as possible!

What Is Spa Longevity

The longevity of your hot tub is how long it will continue to work and last. The range of spas generally last anywhere from 5 to 20 years. Below, we will discuss Master Spas’ longevity individually.

Of course, your spa can almost always be repaired by a professional. Like with a car, however, sometimes with more advanced repairs it is better financially to invest in a new spa, rather than paying to get the old one fixed. You can discuss with your dealer the best option moving forward.

How Much Does A Wooden Hot Tub Cost

Wooden hot tubs start from as little as $3,000 for a simple wood-fired model. They go all the way up to around $10,000 once you add gas or electric heating, or other options like lights or jets.

While wooden hot tubs will never be comparable in price to inflatable spas, they can work out cheaper than rotomolded or acrylic hot tubs of a similar size.

I Have An Old Cheap Hot Tub That Lasted 10 Years

How To Make Your Hot Tub Salt Cell Last Longer

One final thing. We often hear people say they bought a cheap hot tub 10/12 years ago and its lasted really well. That is entirely possible.

But one thing to remember is that most of the cheaper models on the market now, werent available 10 years ago. So its likely that if this is the case you had a cheaper, North American built hot tub.

Hot tub prices have gone up, not down. A hot tub that cost £3000 10-15 years ago will not be at least double for a similar spec. model. We now pay for hot tubs what we used to sell them for.

So if you, or someone you know did buy a cheap hot tub years ago and its lasted a long time, just be aware its probably not the same models you are getting now for cheap. And you will likely have to spend about double.

I Have Frozen Hot Tub Pipes What Can I Do

If you have been caught out buy a cold snap and your Hot tub is now full of water and frozen then you are looking at a very expensive lollipop! When water freezes it expands and the plastic pipe work in most Hot tubs will crack. All you can do is wait until it thaws turn the spa on and look for leaks. Better still is drain down your spa in advance of cold weather or keep it hot and ready to use.

Does The Temperature Of A Hot Tub Affect How Long It Lasts

In short, yes, but probably not to a large degree.

I keep our hot tub set to 98°. That way the whole family, including our toddler, can enjoy it and not risk getting overheated. But some people like their hot tub set to 100° or even as high as 104°.

In the grand scheme of things, were talking a temperature variation of under 10 degrees. That is not enough to put such added strain on the heater and pump as to significantly shorten the lifespan.

Honestly, you can probably impact the lifespan more by keeping the water well-balanced.

But if you really want to maximize the lifespan, dont set yours to 104° or higher. Keep it to 100° or under.

How Can You Add Life To Your Hot Tub

With every substantial investment, the buyer should be aware that to get the most from your purchase, you need to consider taking setting a schedule based on how often you use it.

When you purchase a car, you know that good maintenance will allow you to maximize the use that you get from your vehicle. The same goes for your hot tub. So what type of cleaning schedule should you look at that will help you get the maximum use from the tub?

Some products that will be useful for hot tub owners:

So How Do I Check If My Riptide Fresh Water Ozone Generator Is Working

Remove the wooden door to the compartment with all your pumps etc inside. Sit looking into the compartment and identify the power supply lead to the Ozone generator and then attach an AMP clamp the reading should be .3 Amps. If you do not get a reading check the Fuse which on later models is fitted with in the Generator box but is accessed from outside next to the Ozone outlet. The fuse is a .5amp fuse and if this has blown needs to be replaced before testing the amps again.Any current less than .3 amp means the ozone generator is failing and should be replaced the part number for a new unit to current spec is 72603 which includes new Venturi, new pipe and one way valve.

What Does An Ozone Generator Do

Introducing Ozone to the spa water after the heater as part of the circulation system is quite normal. The Ozone generator creates very high levels of ozone which in turn oxidises bacteria in the circulation system. If you do not have an Ozone system then you will use more sanitizer like Chlorine. Note UV Ozone system need to have a new bulb every year! CD ozone systems last longer but generally need changing every 5 years or so.

Do Wooden Hot Tubs Need Chemicals

How long should a hot tub last?

Many people with wood-fired hot tubs choose to drain their tub after 2-3 uses. They then clean the tub and refill it for the next use. While this method isn’t the best for saving water, it does mean you can generally get away with not adding any chemicals.

If you want to run a wooden hot tub more like a regular spa and leave it filled for up to 3 months at a time, you can use chlorine or bromine as a sanitizer.

However, traditional spa chemicals can be tough on wood. If you’d rather avoid them, mineral sanitizers can be a gentler alternative. These work by using metal ions to destroy bacteria and algae, without damaging the wood. Some gas and electric heated tubs can have electronic ionizers built in.

How Do You Actually Move And Install The Hot Tub

Most hot tubs are very heavy and easily damaged, so if you intend to move one make sure you have plenty of help and good dollies/trailers to help move the spa. It is usual to put a hot tub on its side for moving, but take care not to put it on the pumps side as the door on most hot tubs is very weak . Note: Hire a trailer or flat bed to drive from one address to another, most hot tubs will not fit in a luton or a transit van. If in doubt call in a hot tub company who will be expert in moving spas and insured.

The Problem With Inflatable Hot Tubs

The benefit of inflatable hot tubs is also their main problem theyre inflatable. This means you can have the amazing hot tub experience at a fraction of the price of a regular hot tub, but anything that is inflatable can burst and will never be as durable as its rigid non-inflatable counterpart.

Do inflatable hot tubs pop easily? No. They are not as durable, but they are more resilient than you might think.

Inflatable hot tubs are made out of thick plastic and covered in a layer of vinyl, which is why they dont pop easily.

Many inflatable hot tubs come with a warranty that will cover them if the pop, but its always better to be safe than sorry. Treat your inflatable hot tub as you would any important object in your life take care of it.

Remember Not All Hot Tubs Are Equal

The quality of your hot tub is one of the two biggest factors in how long it will last you. If you do your research well and invest in a quality tub provided by a reputable retailer youll be all set. The inverse is also true a cheap hot tub may feature cheap, unreliable parts and be manufactured to last okay for a few years but its unlikely to be a good long term investment. In fact, if you buy a cheaply made Hot Tub you may find that it doesnt even last 5 years before you have serious issues.

This doesnt mean you need to pay full price, many reputable dealers and manufacturers will run sales or sell off the end of line or ex-display models at a discount. However if the hot tub youre thinking about buying is brand new and yet priced very low be careful or you could end up disappointed after a few years.

Our hot tubs are manufactured using high-quality parts and are built to last. Even our entry-level tubs can be relied upon to run well for years to come if properly serviced and maintained.

Follow A Regular Maintenance Schedule

How Long Will a Typical Hot Tub Last? +4 ways to increase it

As previously mentioned, your maintenance routine and how well you stick to it will greatly influence the lifespan of your hot tub.

Creating a thorough maintenance and care routine should be one of the first things you do when you purchase a new hot tub, and can be quick and easy to follow when you keep up with it.
