Semi Inground Pool With Deep End

What Exactly Is A Semi Inground Pool

Semi-Inground Pool Installation

Semi inground pools are similar to regular inground pools in many ways.

They come with a deck around them, they have a drain system, and there are steps for entering and exiting the pool.

However, unlike a regular inground pool, the sides of a semi inground pool do not go down into the ground.

Instead, they rest on top of concrete blocks. These blocks sit on top of the soil and serve as support.

Expandable Liners For Added Depth

The term expandable liner can be misleading. Vinyl pool liners are, by design, already expandable. The only difference between an expandable liner and a standard liner is that the expandable liner has about 12 more side vinyl material. The extra side material allows an additional foot of depth in the pools center. In other words, if the pool side depth is 4 feet, the added material can extend the middle depth to 6 feet.

Keep in mind: Pool size and shape matter. Smaller pools are not able to accommodate as deep of water as larger pools, due to the fact that the deep end slope has to be gradual. Also, most above ground pool liners are designed for a flat depth. Adding a deep end to the center of the pool can sometimes lead to liner wrinkles if not installed properly.

It is important to discuss depth options with your local Zagers pool professional to ensure liner and pool installation are handled with care.

Costs Can Get Pretty High

Semi inground pools can be extremely aesthetically pleasing, but they can get very expensive and may put you a bit out of pocket.

From installation to upkeep and maintenance, semi inground pools can cost a lot more than standard inground pools and if you dont keep a regular eye on the maintenance of the pool you could end up spending a lot of money just for the pool to break. During the installation process, make sure you have adequate room for your semi inground pool and know how close your pool should be to your house as well.

Be mindful of how much you are spending and if this particular pool type is the right fit for you.

Above Ground Pool Buried In The Ground

There are a few brands of above ground pools that can be complete recessed like an inground pool. One of my most inexpensive inground pool packages utilizes the Aquasort 52.

You can put any pool inground if the pool wall is strong enough. If you are going entirely inground, you will need an inground skimmer and an inground pool pump. Above ground pumps are not self-priming.

Theyre Easier To Install

Compared to inground swimming pools, SIPs arent as labor intensive when setting up. This cuts down the installation time significantly.

While excavation is still required to sink the bottom half of the pool , there is considerably less work involved. Less digging also means less chance of hitting things like tree roots and having to re-route any utility lines that might be in the way.

Pools That Require Concrete

Radiant pools that are oval, rectangle or freeform require concrete footings. So having access for the concrete truck is important. There are other ways to get the concrete in the backyard. We could shuttle it with the bobcat if your yard is too tight. Any Radiant pool buried more then two feet requires a concrete collar to be poured around the pool wall. This is to ensure the pool never sinks from ground saturation.

They Leave Less Mess Behind

With concrete, rebar, and a ton of plumbing, inground pools create a big mess during installation.

SIPs dont really have this issue. Depending on the model, their walls are mainly aluminum, rustproof, and the plumbing is easy to manage. However, some high-end wall designs add concrete or stone to the exterior and some will even use glass panels!

In addition, SIPs have a raised lip which helps to block debris and bugs from getting into the pool. This means less cleaning for you, and less fluctuations in your pool waters chemistry.

The Difference Between A Semi In

Semi Inground Swimming Pool Installation

The main difference between a semi in-ground pool and an above ground pool is mainly the type of construction used.

A semi inground pool uses blocks as a foundation, which is beneficial depending on the type of soil in your area.

This means that it will be easier to install than a fully inground pool.

It will also be more stable than an above ground pool because the weight of the pool is supported by the blocks rather than the ground itself.

A semi inground pool is a happy middle ground between an above ground swimming pool and an inground pool.

They are far more durable and should last much longer than even the best quality of above ground pools, but they are far more cost effective than an inground pool.

Can Semi Inground Pools Have A Deep End

When it comes to practicing your swimming strokes in the comfort of your own backyard, choosing the right type of pool fit for the purpose is incredibly important. Many of the smaller, inflatable, above ground pools dont offer enough length or depth to seriously swim laps. You can run into the same problems with round pools that are deeper in the middle. And if youre looking at inground pools you might run into cost considerations that price you out of the market. However, there may be alternatives that work for your situation. Can semi inground pools have a deep end? Is it worth it to invest in a swim spa? What about a lap pool? In this article, well go over the various options when it comes to using your backyard pool for a legitimate swimming workout.

What Is The Lifespan Of An Above Ground Pool

The market average life of an above ground pool may be shorter than you think at about 7-15 years. However, when you buy from a quality brand and maintain your pool properly it will last many years longer than that.

Is having an above ground pool worth it?

An above ground pool is quicker and easier to install, theres no need to dig into the ground and remove the debris that is left behind. An above ground pool that uses a frame will cost more to buy and maintain, but will cost less than a below ground pool.

Water Stays Warmer Longer

While this is part of the pros, it can also be a drawback to semi inground pools.

Warm water all the time isnt necessarily a good thing. For instance, chlorine is used up quicker in warm water. This means youll be using it more frequently, and as a result, buying it more often.

Cool water is also healthier and easier for humans to swim in.

To keep the water cool in a SIP, you may have to invest in a chiller, which may increase your monthly energy bill.

Is A Deep End Possible In A Semi

Yes! You can easily install a deep end in a semi inground pool.

All you need to do is cut out a section of the bottom of the pool where you would like to place the deep end.

Then, you can pour concrete into this area. After the concrete has set, you can attach a ladder to the edge of the pool.

You can even install a diving board so that you can enjoy the fun water activities a deep end allows.

Above Ground Pools That Look Like Inground Swimming Pools Hardscaping Patios & Wooden Decks

Making an above ground pool look like an inground is all about perspective.

  • Step 1. Sink your above-ground pool into the ground two-three feet.
  • Step 2. Backfill to the top of the pool and lay pavers or build a deck to the hight of the top of the swimming pool.

To wrap this pool, most of what they used was cinder block and sand. Then they covered the block with a beautiful patio block and bullnose coping. Finally, they used a stone veneer to dress the wall. Inexpensive and simple design that looks amazing and provides an excellent sitting area.

Thats all it takes! You dont need to wrap the whole pool or put in a waterfall as they did here. Most people place a small patio or deck on the side of the swimming pool where the ground is highest. The area commonly found between the house and the pool.

Doughboy Pools – Expandable Liners

Depending on how much room you have available, you can expect to spend anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months building a semi in-ground pool at your house.

Once you have decided on the size of the pool, you need to choose the materials needed to construct it.

You can use wood, steel, plastic, or fiberglass for the frame of the pool.

You can also select between a cement block wall or a concrete slab for the side walls.

The depth of the pool depends on the height of the surrounding terrain.

If you live in a flat area, you can expect to see a 10-foot deep pool, if you are installing a sloped area, refer to our guide answering the question can an inground swimming pool be installed on a sloped backyard?.

Above ground and semi inground pools are popular.Although they are a compromise to in-ground pools, they still share somefeatures. Depth is one of the trade-offs you get with an above ground pool. Anin-ground pool is not limited when it comes to depth. If you have space andmoney you can go as deep as you wish. Well, only as deep as the council lawsallow. On the other hand, above ground pools often stand at 4 feet deep. Semiinground pools go deeper but the big question still remains, how deep can thesepools go?

Interested in getting your own swimming pool?

You have two options: inground and above ground. But what if you want a little bit of both?

Thats what they call a semi inground pool, and technically, its a third option.

At River Pools, weve been manufacturing and installing fiberglass pools for years. Most of them are installed inground, but weve also installed our pools above ground and even on rooftops.

Semi inground pools are a little bit different in terms of aesthetics and the installation process, so in this article, were breaking down the key factors that set semi inground pools apart to help you decide if its a good fit for you.

Definitely more of a luxury model, this rectangular semi inground pool has been impeccably designed with dark stone to contrast the light aqua pool water color.

This model sinks the bottom half into the ground, leaving the top half exposed. The added height allows for triple sheer descents to be included in the design.

The addition of stone will provide the same advantages as in Example #1, and entry steps are included right in the pools flooring .

What Are The Semi Inground Pool Sizes

When Should You Buy a Semi

Semi inground pools come in all of the same sizes as traditional inground pools. Your pool size options will typically range from 12×24 feet on the smaller end to 20×40 feet for larger swimming pools.

How Much Does A Semi Inground Pool Cost

A semi inground pool might cost about the same as an inground pool plus additional labor and materials for forming the walls around it. The key factor is the building materials and how you choose to upgrade the surrounding walls of the pool.

The walls of a semi inground pool are for more than just aesthetics. Since they need to support the pool and withstand the pressure of thousands of gallons of water, semi inground pool walls will need to be very sturdy, and that means that they will not come cheap.

You can expect your pool walls to cost as much as a retaining wall, which is roughly $7,000-$20,000 depending on the materials and/or the size and shape of the blocks used. Here’s a rule to remember as you research semi inground pool designs: the bigger the pool and the higher the walls, the more you can expect to pay.

Keep in mind that were referring to inground pools that are installed semi inground and not above ground pool kits that are partially lowered into the ground.

To give you a base estimate for how much swimming pools cost before adding the price of the walls, a vinyl liner pool will cost you between 25k and 65k, a fiberglass pool will cost you between around 40k and 85k, and a concrete pool will cost you between about 50k and 100k. You can read more about inground pool packages and their prices here.

Above Ground Pool Depths

The three most common wall heights for above ground pools are: 48, 52, and 54. In most cases, the pool water is actually about 6 lower than the height of the walls. Generally, these heights would work great for most pool owners.

However, many pool owners would like to have the ability to go deeper than 4 feet. Luckily, above ground pools can have both shallow and deep ends, just like an in-ground pool. Another pool option that is gaining popularity is the semi in-ground pool design. However, be sure you fully understand the costs of semi in-ground pools before pursuing this option.

Technically speaking, that would literally make the pool semi inground. But this is not the same concept as building the pool semi inground with a wall that extends above ground. The installation process is much different, as well as the material that the above ground pool is made of. You can see for yourself in my article on the best quality above ground pools.

You will see kits sold at stores or online that come with a kit showing you how to place your above ground pool partly in the ground. These pools are typically made with a steel or aluminum wall rather than the vinyl, concrete, or fiberglass material like semi inground pools.

What Is A Semi Inground Pool

A semi inground pool is exactly what it sounds like: a swimming pool that is partially installed in the ground and partially installed above ground. Usually, most of the pool is still inground, but part of the pool will be raised a few feet or more.

Whether you install a fiberglass, concrete, or vinyl liner pool, the installation and cost will differ depending on the pool type and the materials that you use to build around it.

Some people like to use the raised sides of a semi inground pool for bar space, water features , and multiple pool entry points.

Keep in mind that you can install an above ground pool semi inground, but its not the same as building an inground pool semi inground.

Whats the difference?

The vast majority of above ground pools that you can buy in a kit and assemble in your yard are temporary. While you can partially or entirely lower them into the ground, theyre not what we know of as inground pools, which are more permanent structures.
