Why Is There A Membership Fee To The Brandywine Ymca’s Outdoor Pool

To provide the safest experience possible, many procedures such as increased staffing and rigorous cleaning and disinfection are being implemented based on recommendations from the CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health. These procedures come with additional costs and as a result, it is necessary to charge a minimal membership fee for the outdoor pool. The cost is very reasonable and additionally, financial assistance and payment plans are available.

What To Bring With You To The Pool

If youre headed to the pool, youll want to bring a few key items with you. Whether youre taking just a few laps in the pool or are coming for one of our classes, be sure to bring the following items with you:

    • Swimsuit. A well-fitting swimsuit is a must-have. Parents that are dropping their kids off at the pool should make sure that all swimsuits fit snug.

    • Goggles. A pair of goggles protect the eyes from chlorine and encourages kids to maintain a better technique. Kids just learning to swim will, especially benefit from a pair of goggles.

    • Swim Cap. Anyone kids and adults with long hair can wear a swim cap to keep their hair out of their face when swimming.

    • Towels. All members are required to bring their own towels to each lesson.

    • Sunscreen

Shower supplies, such as soap, shampoo and conditioner, should be packed away in a gym bag if you or your child plans to shower after being in the pool. Of course, you can skip this step if you plan on showering when you return home.

Bringing the right items will make your time at the pool fun and exciting.

Will Lap Swimmers Be Able To Reserve Lanes At Umly’s 50m Pool

What to do with an old swimming pool?

There will not be lane reservations this year. Prior to last year, we did not have lane reservations and weve always had plenty of space in the pool. A designated staff person will be checking memberships as members arrive to use the 50M pool. They will be stationed at the double doors by the exit to B Pool during the week and by the gate to the 50M pool on weekends. Additionally, B Pool will also have lap swimming available throughout the day.

    Weather Policies At The Pool

The Merrimack Valley YMCA is dedicated to the safety and well-being of our members and program participants. Your familys health and well-being is our primary concern. Thats why we adhere to the following safety procedures when thunder, lightning and other signs of inclement weather strike near one of our pools . These procedures are recommended by YMCA of the USA, The National Lightning Safety Institute and our local insurance provider Redwoods.

-When thunder or lightning is first noticed, pool activities will be suspended and all aquatic areas will be evacuated until 30 minutes after the last sign of thunder or lightning. The distance from a facility to an approaching thunderstorm can be five to eight miles away, but lightning can strike from a much farther distance.

-The entire pool area, including the pool deck, will be closed. Current policies are based on best practices identified by the YMCA of the USA, The National Lightning Safety Institute and our local insurance provider Redwoods and require that the entire aquatics area be closed.

Indoor pool facilities are connected to a much larger surface area through underground water pipes, gas lines, and electric and telephone wiring. If lightning strikes the ground anywhere on this metallic network, it may induce shocks elsewhere. It is recommended to wait at least 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder before resuming aquatic activities. National Lightning Institute
