Gyms, pools and beauty salons to re-open in England – BBC News

Beat the heat and enjoy the summer weather in Calgary by visiting one of our many wading pools, spray parks and outdoor pools around the city. Spray parks, wading pools and outdoor pools are typically open from mid-June until fall . Aquatic wheelchairs are now available at some spray parks.

Wading pools and spray parks are not available to be booked.

Love the water? The City also runs several indoor pools and leisure centres throughout Calgary.

Standard Safety And Supervisory Standards In City Pools And Beaches

There are safety standards so that everyone can enjoy the Citys swimming pools and beaches.

If you are unsure of how these requirements apply to you, please contact the pool before your visit.

To ensure adequate supervision and to identify people at greater risk, all swimmers need to wear a City-issued coloured wristband to get in the pool.

Non-swimmers and those who cannot pass the facility’s swim test must remain in shallow water.

Each ratio below indicates the maximum number of children that one responsible person 14 years or older can supervise. The parent or guardian must be in proper bathing attire, in the water, actively participating and within arms reach at all times.

Pool Closures Due To Weather

Upon seeing lightning or hearing thunder, the pool must be cleared immediately. Outdoor aquatic site staff and patrons are to stay away from objects that conduct electricity, such as reaching poles and umbrellas and are to stay a minimum of 30 metres away from any wire fence. Patrons may return to the water 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder or the last sight of lightning. For further information regarding the potential danger of lightening strikes, contact Environment Canada.

How Can I Keep Safe

Possible difficulty maintaining social distancing in changing rooms and pool-side was considered the main reason for the delayed opening after the first lockdown.

This is rather than transmission in water, where chlorine is likely to kill the virus, according to Professor Keith Neal, professor of epidemiology of infectious diseases at the University of Nottingham.

Swim England issued some guidance in June last year, which gives us an indication of what swimmers might expect when they return to the pool.

This includes people who are unable to control their behaviour or impulses and require direct supervision. Find your bookmarks in your Independent Premium section, under my profile

Monday 29 March sees the second stage of the first phase of lockdown restrictions eased across England – the first happened on 8 March when children returned to school – after months of a third nationwide lockdown that began in January.

The roadmap, unveiled by Boris Johnson, has given a staggered timeline that is hoped will end with a total lift on all rules no earlier than 21 June, provided data continues to show a downward trend in cases and the vaccine rollout goes as planned.

The restrictions relaxed on Monday now allow people to meet up outdoors in groups of six or two households, and allow a return to outdoor sports. This includes swimming in outdoor facilities.

But what are the rules and when do indoor sites reopen?

    When Will Swimming Pools Reopen

Outdoor swimming pools reopened from 29 March according to the plans, along with golf courses, tennis courts and other outdoor facilities.

It also marked the date that people would be allowed to exercise with their household, or one person from another household, and organised outdoor sport resumed for both children and adults.

The roadmap states: The Government will allow outdoor sports facilities to reopen, broadening the options for outdoor exercise and recreation.

These facilities, such as tennis and basketball courts, and swimming pools, can be used by people in line with the wider social contact limits.

Indoor pools will be allowed to reopen under step two of the roadmap, which is being introduced on Monday 12 April.

Before each step, the Government reviews data assessing the impact of the previous stage against four tests.

    These tests are:

  • The vaccine deployment programme continues successfully
  • Evidence shows vaccines are sufficiently effective in reducing hospitalisations and deaths in those vaccinated
  • Infection rates do not risk a surge in hospitalisations which would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS
  • Government assessment of the risks is not fundamentally changed by new variants of concern
  • In an announcement on Monday 5 April, the Prime Minister confirmed that step two could proceed as planned a week later.
