Keep in mind that any pool without a filter will become stagnant and can quickly attract mosquitos and other pests, so these alternative pools are best used for a weekend then drained.
What Voltage And Frequency Do I Need
Regarding the frequency and voltage, you have to make sure that you are supplying the right amount of electricity at the right voltage and at the same frequency that your heater and pumps are designed for. For example, in the UK, the voltage is 240V and 50Hz. In the USA, the standard outlet is 110V and 60Hz.
What I am emphasising here is that you cannot take a heater from the UK and plug it into the USA supply and expect it to work. Dont worry, all the pumps and heaters that we supply are specified for the country in which they will be used!
Also with pumps, the frequency is the rotation rate which again is linked to power. Something that rotates at 50Hz is rotating 20% less than something at 60Hz. So a 50Hz pump will be rotating 20% faster than designed and will overheat on a 60Hz supply so they need to be designed to run on the correct frequency.

Were now getting to the expensive components of your Plunge Pool so it is worth taking some time to get all of this right. Lets start with looking at pumps. For a plunge pool as it has no jets, you are just looking for a circulation pump. Something with less than 1HP is more than sufficient to circulate the water through the filter.
The filter. This is essential to keeping that lovely large body of water nice and clear of debris and bits. With the filter, these are sold by how many litres an hour can flow through it and also the size of the body of water you plan to filter. The bigger your Plunge Pool, the bigger the filter required. Makes sense really. Filters are made up of four elements, Cores, Media , Bands, and End Caps. What you want to do is make sure that the filter has a properly designed core that maximises the filtration area. This in turn increases the flow and it will also create a uniform flow through the entire cartridge. What this means is that you will in effect increase its life and the cleanliness of your Plunge Pool water. Top tip, dont skimp and buy cheap here. Buy a good quality filter from a reputable manufacturer.
When you are choosing your filter, you need to be mindful of the pump that you will be using too. I choose a Waterway filter and a 50sqm one. That matched up with the size of my DIY Plunge Pool 46.5sqft. So on those calculations I am at the upper limit of the filter really once you allow a little bit for water head.

Has the summer heat got you daydreaming of spending all day in a pool? You can go to a beach resort and do exactly that but it would most likely cost a lot of money. And a frequent trip would not be practical if you are working like the rest of us.
Well, we found a great solution why not build your own inexpensive pool! Now if backyard space and maintenance is a concern, this heres a very simple DIY above ground plunge pool that you can enjoy for years!
This DIY pool is simply made of a bulk container and some pallets. You can find secondhand parts to keep the total cost at around $100. But if you need or want to purchase new materials, this DIY project would cost around $500 which is a very low amount considering this plunge pool will last a long time!
You dont need a very large yard to build it. Its easy to maintain and the best part is that you can cool yourself down during the summer anytime you want!
Youll need these materials:
- 1000L IBC
- Pallets
- Cordless Drill
- Heat Gun
Steps:
Fitting jets and initial pipework: Ensure things are aligned with the gaps in your pallets, cut the holes, and then install your jets.
Make sure you tighten them up nicely. Follow the fitting instructions specific to your chosen kit.
Once the jets are in you can begin plumbing up your PVC pipework, make sure to use the appropriate PVC cement.
Use your drill driver, then screw the pallets together. The back side of one pallet overlaps perfectly over the end of another.

There will be quite a bit of water in your plunge pool and if your brick work gives way, that will spell disaster!

Get Your Zoning Right
Natural swimming pools dont just require swimming space. They also need a reserved area surrounding the pool for vegetation and filtration. Make sure that you get it right by reserving 50% of the pool surface area for the shallow plants will make up your ecosystem and entirely remove the need for an expensive filter as well as chlorine.
Useful tip: Before you start building your pool yourself, why not map out a to scale area for the development as well as the extra space that you will need for other things?
This will give you a clearer vision of what youre building, make sure that you arent overestimating the amount of space that you have to work with and ensure that your new natural swimming pool is the perfect fit.
Box shaped pools tend to be simpler to plan for and contend with, so when thinking about space, why not make it easier for yourself by going for a traditional shape?
What Are Some Common Challenges Associated With Do
The most common challenge associated with DIY fiberglass pool installations is getting the pool level.
For a first timer, this can be a frustrating experience. The key is to stick with it until you get it right.
One word of advice here: be careful to give yourself plenty of time for pool leveling.
If you’re having water delivered, build in a couple extra hours before they arrive and budget some extra time for the crane to sit on site while you work on getting the pool level.
Few things are more stressful than re-setting a pool over and over while everyone’s standing around waiting on you.
These situations can lead you to compromise and settle for a pool that’s not as level as you would like. Don’t do it. You’ll kick yourself later.
Another common challenge with straight-wall pools is keeping those suckers straight. This requires constant monitoring while filling the pool and placing backfill.
As soon as you set the pool, run a string line from corner to corner and keep it spot on until the pool is full.
If the wall bows in or out, the pool will probably be fine, but you’ll have to do some digging to get it straight again.
