Six Flags Americas Hurricane Harbor Opens This Weekend

NEW Pool at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor’s Calypso Springs

May 26, 2021, 12:48 PM

Hurricane Harbor, which Six Flags America calls the largest waterpark in the D.C. region, will officially open Saturday, May 29, marking the parks unofficial start of summer.

Hurricane Harbor now has 25 water slides, including the 500-foot-long Bahama Blast inner-tube slide, and the four-story high zero gravity The Halfpipe. Its wave pool holds 800,000 gallons of water, and a winding manmade river has seven different water action zones.

There are also private cabanas.

Admission to Hurricane Harbor is included with general admission to Six Flags America. The waterpark will be open through Labor Day.

The waterpark has roots back to the 1980s and assumed the name Paradise Island in the mid-90s. It was rebranded Hurricane Harbor in 2005.

Six Flags America, in Bowie, Maryland, opened to the public March 6, the earliest opening date in the parks 22-year history. It also expects this year to be its longest season ever.

Six Flags America is owned by Arlington, Texas-based Six Flags Entertainment. It is one of 27 Six Flag-branded theme parks across the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

Six Flags said attendance in the first quarter at its open parks was 95% of the first quarter of 2019.

Hurricane Harbor Water Attraction Now Open At Six Flags Over Georgia

If you live in the Atlanta area or are visiting then add Hurricane Harbor, the new water park at Six Flags Over Georgia, to your list of Metro Atlanta places to visit and explore. Your hot summer days just got a whole lot cooler! One of the best parts is that admission to Hurricane Harbor is included in your Six Flags Over Georgia admission.

We recently attended a preview event of Hurricane Harbor and had a blast. One of my biggest takeaways from the day is that season passes to Six Flags Over Georgia are definitely in our future! I cannot believe we havent been to this amusement park that is practically in our back yard until last week. Combining an amusement park with a water park is the idea of a genius.

People Were Sent To Hospitals After Chemicals Leaked Near A Kids Pool At A Six Flags Water Park In Texas

Celebrate 40 Seasons of Thrills at Six Flags Great America ...
  • A chemical leak at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown near Houston left dozens needing treatment.

  • About 60 people underwent decontamination after experiencing skin irritation or respiratory issues.

  • The leak is being investigated, but authorities believe the chemicals were bleach and sulfuric acid.

Thirty-one people were taken to hospitals after being exposed to chemicals Saturday afternoon at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown in Spring, Texas, officials said.

More than 80 people in total were said to have experienced respiratory issues or skin irritation.

“What began as a fun family day turned into very much a nightmare for many families,” Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said during a press conference.

She said that the leak started near a pool for kids and that a lifeguard first became sick, followed by more and more people.

“Children were walking out of the pool with respiratory issues,” she said. “Eventually it became very clear that there was something either in the environment or the water that was making these children sick, these families sick.”

The Harris County fire marshal’s hazmat team and pollution-control department responded to the leak. Air and water samples were taken, but Hidalgo said everything appeared to be within acceptable limits.

The park, located near Houston, was evacuated and ordered to close as an investigation began.

More Than 60 People Treated After Chemical Incident At Six Flags Water Park In Texas

More than 60 people had to be treated on Saturday after a chemical incident at a Six Flags waterpark in Houston, Texas, officials said.

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office tweeted that dozens of people experienced minor skin and/or inhalation irritation after a chemical incident was detected at one of Hurricane Harbor Splashtown’s attractions. The local fire department said that 26 people were transported to local hospitals and that 39 refused ambulance transport after a HAZMAT unit put people through a decontamination process. Roughly 4,000 people were at the park during the time of the incident.

“Most of the patients that we saw during the time in the beginning were all respiratory distress, a little hard to breathe, things of that sort,” Spring Fire Department Chief Scott Seifert said Saturday at a press conference. “We didn’t see anyone with chemical burns, anything like that.”

A three-year-old child, however, did have a “severe enough condition” that they had to be rushed to a children’s hospital, officials said. That child is now in stable condition. Officials said another woman appeared to be in labor when medical personnel arrived at the scene, but no further details were provided.

The Fire Marshal said the last time it was inspected was June 29. The public health department also conducted an inspection of the pool facility in April.

Location & Hours

  • Is it worth getting the Flash pass? It’s my first time visiting a Six Flags and there are three options so I am a little confused. Which of the three is the best bang for your buck?

Depending when u go and the crowds yes. The ride wait times can be long. Especially like super man and them.

  • For anyone that’s gone recently are they enforcing Covid-19 safety protocols? Also how are the wait times in 2021?

NOT during spring break— the crowd # was ridiculously high today- i went 4/7/21 with my sons…and it was a miserable experience. All rides had a 2 hour minimum wait time at best. And that goes for food/drink wait time too. I literally stood inmore
