Use A Fan To Cool Down A Room
A top tip when using fans to cool down is to leave a large bowl of mounded ice in front of it while its working. This will circulate cooler air around the room and function like a makeshift AC.
Positioning you fan correctly for optimum cooling is also important.
Fans, when left to their own devices, can just circulate the same warm air. It may seem counter intuitive, but the trick with getting the most out of your fan isnt actually to always point it in your direction. Rather, you want to consider pointing your fan towards an open window especially at night.
If you angle a fan towards a window, they will work to push out the warm air, cooling the room. If you want to get really technical about it, place the fan facing out of the window in a room youre not sleeping in. Place the fan facing out of the open window and make sure the window in your bedroom is open. When you turn the fan on, this should create a sort of low pressure system in your home where hot air is driven out of one room and in turn sucks cool air into the room your are in.
Have a ceiling fan? Set it anti-clockwise for a similar cooling affect. If you have a basement, position a fan pointing up the stairs to the rest of the house. This will push the cooler air below the house up into the ground floor.

As we are all aware, its that time of year again when the temperatures are going to soar and will stay that way for the next several months.
You might be noticing that your hot tub temperature is staying high even when you turn the thermostat down. The Jacuzzi® and Sundance® products are so well insulated they sometimes can stay hotter than normal this time of year-especially with the cover on and if your tub has full sun exposure.
Here are a couple of ideas to help you keep your temperature down:
Its important you dont turn your thermostat completely down because it will hinder the normal filtering and water purification cycles.
Using Modes For A Cool Spa
Depending on your hot tub configuration or model, these modes may be named differently but essentially all hot tubs have these standard functions.
Sleep Mode is common and shows the code as Sl or Slp. In this mode the temperature will heat up to within 20 degrees farenheit of the set temperature but will only attempt to heat during filter cycles. Using Sleep Mode and setting the temperature on your spa to the lowest possible setting will allow your hot tub to continue with filter cycles while keeping your water cool.
Some spas manufactured in the midwest have preset Summer mode, these options can be found in the setting on your topside control panel. Referance your owners manual for information on your spa hot tubs available modes.
EliteSpas have additional configuration features allowing you to control the Heat, Ready or Rest as well as Temperature Range, High or Low. Using the EliteSpas control panel you can simple change these in settings. Set the Heat to Rest and the Temperature Range to Low. This will reduce temperature and leave the rest of your spas settings the same.

It is always hot this time of year, but this year summer has been hotter than usual in North Texas. This has resulted in warmer pool water temperatures than we are accustomed to, and oftentimes swimming pools have been so warm that that they have even been past the point of being refreshing.
Most of those who enjoy swimming pools prefer water temperature in the range of 80 to 90 degrees, with temperatures below 80 and above 90 being considered uncomfortable. With the water temperature in many full-sun pools now reaching the low-to-mid 90s, pool owners are looking for ways to lower the temperature of the water.
Following are some methods that have been used to lower the temperature of their pool water:
Fountains and waterfalls Fountains and waterfalls lower the water temperature as the water action that is created by fountains and waterfalls causes evaporation, which cools the water. This also tends to cause more water loss due to this evaporation. Operating the fountain or waterfall at night is most effective as the air temperature is cooler. If your pool is not equipped with a fountain or waterfall, aftermarket fountains are available that attach to the pool return.
Ways To Cool Down Hot Swimming Pool Water:
One of the first ways that Premier Pools and Spas suggests to cool down your hot swimming pool water is, investing in a pool cooler. A pool cooler is much like the pool heater, except works the opposite way, instead of heating your swimming pool up it cools it down. It flows the warm water through the pool cooler and bypasses a fan,then re-inserts the cool water back into the swimming pool. A simple solution to fix your problems, although the pool cooler is a big investment and must be installed and maintained professionally. In the long run, this investment is worth it.
Another way to cool down your hot swimming pool water is by incorporating a water feature into your swimming pool design, this way the circulating water keeps the pool cool and moving. Its harder for the sun to evaporate the swimming pool water, it would be focused towards the water that is spraying the in the air. Alright, so this isnt the most effective long-term strategy, but it works in a pinch. If you absolutely, positively need your pool cooled down FAST, you can use ice to accomplish it.
As you might imagine, there are several drawbacks to using ice. First, its going to cost you. To cool down a standard-sized pool, youll need several thousand pounds of ice. Depending on where you get it that will set you back between 200 and 500 dollars.
The other downside is that it wont last. Your pool will get colder very quickly, but it will get warm up pretty quickly as well. Within a few days, all the work your ice did will melt away . But theres no denying that youll get a cooler pool.

Is A Chiller Even Necessary
I’m always amazed when I speak to a customer that has received 2 or 3 quotes from other pool companies and no one has yet mentioned the potential need to cool the pool water as well.
Frankly, when I see such a lack of teaching from other pool guys, I want to slap my forehead and the first thought that comes to my head is:
Are you kidding me??
Here’s the deal: If your pool is 6′ or less in depth and receives good amounts of sunlight throughout the day, then you’ll likely have need for a chiller at some time or another .
If you follow that advice, I promise you that you’ll make the right decision as to whether to go chiller or not with your heat pump purchase.
