Adventure In Aruba: How To Visit Natural Pool

The Natural Pool, also known as Conchi in Papaimiento, is a small, naturally occurring pool on the rugged, rocky, volcanic coastline of Aruba. Located in Arikok National Park, getting here is half the fun and adds an element of adventure to your vacation. If you want to take a break from sipping tropical drinks in the shade of a palm tree, consider a visit to the Natural Pool.

How to get to the Natural Pool

There are two ways to get to Natural Pool. The most common way is to enter Arikok National Park and hire a guide with a 4×4 or ATV vehicle to drive you out to the pool. You can drive your own 4×4 but you need to make sure you have authorization from your rental car company. This is a tricky road to drive so dont underestimate it!

The second way to get to Natural Pool is to drive to Daimari Beach and hike to the Pool from here. This is what we did. And it was a great experience.

Getting to Daimari Beach

Accessing the Natural Pool from Daimari Beach requires you to enter Arikok National Park from an unauthorized access. There is a fee to enter the park , but there is no ticket booth or park ranger at the Daimari Beach entrance. Therefore, you should visit the Arikok National Park visitor center first, pay your fee, and then drive out to Daimari Beach. It is a seven minute drive between the visitor center and the start of the dirt road that takes you out to Daimari Beach.

Hiking to the Natural Pool

Explore The Arikok From The Shete Entrance

Leave the park and enter it one more time from the;Shete Entrance. This part of the park is amazing and totally off-road, there are also fewer people. In this part of the park, the main attractions are: the Moro beach and the Natural Pool. The experience of both spots is superb.

4. Moro Beach

Moro beach;is;a;huge;white;sand;beach that is split into two parts by a giant cliff. Thanks to which there is a sand path opened right in the middle of the waves. The views are spectacular.

5. Natural Pool

The Natural Pool will;be the strawberry on the cake of your trip to Arikok National park. It is my favorite spot in the park. What the natural pool is like? It is a water lagoon that is surrounded by rocks that protect the lagoon from the rough sea. You can climb up the cliffs and discover a small pool that I named natural jacuzzi.

How To Get There

This area is on the Eastern coast of Aruba in Santa Cruz. You can access the beach by hiking, horseback, or 4×4 in Arikok National Park. There is an entrance fee. It is quite a trek by horseback and hiking, about 7 mi round trip, so plan accordingly. The entire National Park itself makes up over 20% of Aruba, so the journey to the beach is just a small part of the National Park.

Hi all! My Husband will be making our 2nd trip to Aruba in November, and would like recommendations for the best way to experience the natural pool! I do not suggest renting a jeep and going on your own. We did that and were VERY thankful that we found a tour to follow. The terrain is rough and you want someone who knows it well to navigate.

Driving To The Conchi Natural Pool:

It is possible to drive a rental Jeep or 4×4 to the Natural Pool. The drive time is around 45 minutes to 1 hour each way. Once you are inside the park follow the signs to Conchi and the Natural Pool. You will be driving on the road that brings you around Sero Arikok Volcano.

For the first part of the journey, the road is paved and then turns to gravel to go around the volcano. After the volcano, youll see a sign that reads 4×4 Vehicles Only, DO NOT attempt this road without a 4×4 vehicle.

Explore The Arikok From San Fuego Entrance

This is the park entrance where you supposed to buy entrance tickets. Also, this part of the park is accessible with a normal car.

In this Northern Loop there are 4 most exciting sights to visit: Fontein Cave, Quadirikiri cave, Boca Prins and Dos Playa.

1. Fontein and Quadirikiri Caves

In the Fontein cave, you can see many ancient paintings for 100 years old. And in the Quadirikiri Cave, there is a very photogenic roof hole and many bats in the shadow parts.

2. Boca Prins

Boca Prins is a white sand beach that lies in the middle of the rock formation.

3. Dos Playa

Dos Playa is the most important sea turtle nesting site on the island . But compared to the Baby Beach you most unlikely swim with them there.

Best Hike: Natural Pool Trail Aruba

You wouldnt know it from your arrival at Arubas cruise terminal in the port of Oranjestad, but the relatively small desert island of Aruba offers one of the most rewarding hikes in the Caribbean. The Natural Pool trail on the northern coast takes you from a small, palm-shaded hacienda called Rancho Daimari, out along a dramatic, rugged shore to a secret tidal pool in Arikok National Park.

Youll need a park pass , available from the ranger station in Santa Cruz, just a 20-minute drive from the port. Then head to Rancho Daimari another 10-minute drive. Check in at the office, which has a small bar that serves drinks and refreshments. Youll want to stock up on water.

The rancho offers guided horseback rides along the limestone cliffs and hidden beaches to the natural pool. But the relatively flat terrain and lack of motor traffic you might encounter the odd mountain bike make this a wonderfully easy and relaxed hike.

Follow the dirt road past the horse stables to the sand dunes and sea. The landscape here is a haunting blend of scenery you might find on the rugged shores of Northern California and the bright red formations of the Australian Outback. The trail is braided and rough, but as long as you keep the shore to your left, youll spend the next 45 minutes winding your way past pretty beaches. Natural Pool Accessible Via Sero Arikok

Natural Pool ;at Parke Nacional Arikok

Closure of the Shete entrance to Parke Nacional Arikok as of 1 April, 2019. The Natural Pool remains accessible via the routes: Main Entrance/Visitors Center Sero Arikok and Vader Piet Entrance Sero Arikok.

In the coming weeks, this route to Conchi will be repaired in such a way that it will be more accessible for the adequate vehicles, pertaining to the maximum speed of 20 km / h . FPNA is counting on the cooperation and understanding of all visitors, tour operators and UTV / Quad Racer Rentals for the aforementioned change, which will benefit the conservation of nature in the park. In order for the aforementioned change to go as smoothly as possible, FPNA will grant a transition period of two weeks, mainly for those who are unaware of the aforementioned change. Park rangers will be present at the entrance at Shete during this transition period to guide visitors and give instructions on how to proceed.

Update 1 November 2020: due to the impact on nature and the environmental, please take note that ATVs, UTVs and motorbikes are prohibited in the National Park.

The road to Daimari Beach is a rough, dirt road lined with cacti. This part of Aruba looks nothing like the western side, with its long, white sandy beaches and resorts. Getting to see this side of Aruba is one of the best parts of making this excursion.

To drive this road, a 4×4 is ideal. I would not recommend making this drive in a sedan or smaller car as there are several steep hills and the roads are rutted and very rough. You dont want to risk getting stranded out here! Before leaving your hotel, put Daimari Beach and the Arikok National Park visitor center into Google Maps. Cache this route on your phone and follow this map to drive from the visitor center to Daimari Beach .

What Is The Natural Pool In Aruba

The Natural Pool in Aruba is a protected little pool created by rocks. ;When the tide comes in, waves crash over the walls. ;Bring your snorkel mask to view the small fish. This is probably one of the top sightseeing locations in Aruba so you need to plan how to get there. Our original plan was to take a tour. ;As I mentioned in our post about sightseeing, it wasnt really feasible to go to all the places we wanted on one tour. ;Unfortunately, the only way to get to the Natural Pool is to take a 4 x 4 vehicle. What this means is that no tour bus will get you there. ;ATV tours wont get you there, either. ;You either take a 4 x 4 or you hike. ;What?!? ;Yes, I said it and it was worth the hike!

After my initial sadness over how I hadnt done enough research so that we could have properly planned, Allan took over! ;By looking through various blogs, Allan found several posts from people who had hiked the trail to the Natural Pool. ;So we set about doing just that.
