Why not just use a hose to fill my pool?
This is common for people who are filling their pool with water for the first time. Filling your pool with a hose is certainly a sensible and viable solution. However, it takes an average of 12-24 hours to fill even a small pool.
Can you fill a pool with well water?
You should not fill your pool with a hose if you are using well water. Doing so imposes a risk of damaging your well pump and/or running your well dry.
What type of water do you use to fill pools?
We will fill your pool with either our artesian spring water or distilled water.
What size tanker truck do you use for water delivery?

As an example, consider homes that have a pool in the back and the driveway doesnt stretch enough for the truck to get close to the pool. This is where additional hose will be required.
Some truckers set aside an allotted amount of time for their deliveries. If they go over this set limit, additional charges may apply. This is something you should ask before ordering, especially if you think that filling your pool, for some reason, will take longer than usual.
How To Fill A Large Size Swimming Pool
Some of the best childhood memories revolve around time spent on and in the water. Lakes, ponds and especially swimming pools provide endless hours of exercise, family time together and the chance to simply have fun, like a child. Before you indulge yourself and your family, however, you better make sure the pool is full of water. A simple task, it requires little more than a hose and water — and a lot of water if the pool is very large. It’s the little tasks that accompany a fill-up that make the pool ready to go.

Pull the expansion plugs from the pool’s skimmers and wall returns if the pool was winterized. Attach the proper fittings in their place. New pools, set up ready to fill, will not require this step.

Assemble and connect the pool’s underwater light fixtures, filtration system, heater, pump and other operating accessories. Install the drain plugs in the filter, pump, heater and other items as applicable. Due to the wide variation in the products, styles and procedures, consult the product instructions for specific guidance.

Connect a garden hose to your outdoor faucet. Stretch the hose across to your pool, ensuring it is away from electrical lines and plugs as well as safe from vehicles, lawn mowers and other hazards. Order water from a pool water service, alternatively, and run the line from the vehicle parked on the street or driveway to your pool.

Tips For Adding Start
- Add Stain & Scale chemical first, especially for new plaster.

- Run filter pump while adding chemicals to circulate.
- Re-test the pool water after 8 hours of filter run time.

Once the pool is opened, you will need to circulate, filter, clean and treat the pool water – every day. Consistent water balance, constant chlorine levels and effective filtering is important to prevent water problems.
And, as the water temperature and pool usage increases through the summer, you will need more hours of daily filtering, and more chlorine tablets to maintain sanitation and clarity.
The Rotten Egg Effect
Well water often has a distinctive scent and taste thanks to hydrogen sulfide and other minerals. The elements that permeate the water table are usually filtered out by city water plants. But when you pull your water straight from the well, youre getting everything the waters touched, and dissolved, on its way to your well.
This can be a problem because all those excess minerals can make sanitizing and balancing your water a major headache. Sulphur compounds can prevent your shock from working properly, while iron, copper, and other metals can damage your hardware and stain your liner. Free water isnt much of a bargain when youre blowing your budget just trying to maintain healthy basic pool chemistry.
Err on the side of caution and test your well water for excessive amounts of hydrogen sulfide, copper, and iron before you fire up the pump.

What Can You Do About It
If youve already filled the pool and the water is turning colors, your first step should be to add a metal sequestrant like a Metal Control. Sequestrants do not purge the water of the metals but instead suspend it, prevent it from causing stains or unwanted effects. If you want to purge your water of metals, youll need a metal remover like CuLator. The CuLator metal remover is available in cartridges that can be inserted in your pump or skimmer basket.;
If you havent filled the water up yet, treat the water as youre filling it with Metal Control. Weve seen some cases too where people will shock it and theyll add a metal not a metal control, but an algaecide with a lot of copper. The copper in that algaecide can react with the shock and cause a green pool too so that could be a reason.
If you are planning to fill your pool with well water, a simple bobby hose extension can filter out metals as you fill the pool; this can elimnate or atleast reduce the need for further metal treatments.

Is There Any Way To Spend Less
You can contact the local fire department and they might just fill up your pool for a small donation.
Fill your pool with a hose and save money. If you call up the local water department, they may be able to give you a deal. Some companies can waive sewer usage for that day if its billed together with your water bill. Regardless of how big your pool is, filling up wont cost more than $10-$35 at most.

So where does all that pool water come from? And is there a way to save money on pool water? Lets take a closer look at pool water delivery, and find out your best options.;

Choosing City Or Municipal Water
Have you ever considered using municipal water to fill your pool or hot tub? If you have a septic tank in your home, you may save big and only be charged for the water fill and not municipal sewage fees. Make sure to dial in to your local city number or water company to find out if thats the case for you.

How To Fill An Above Ground Pool
If youre ready to fill your above ground swimming pool, Im going to assume youve already taken care of everything else.
Its set up where you want it and the necessary plumbing is installed or you have someone scheduled to install it.
But the big question is, How do you fill it up? Where does all that water come from?
Right?
Not to worry. You have a few options. You just have to find the one that works best for you in the area where you live.
Swimming Pool Filling Considerations
Also a loaded water truck weighs 33,000 pounds so the ground must be solid and able to have that weight cross it repeatedly. Obstacles such as fences or low hanging branches need to be taken into consideration. Please secure animals and have the gate open when we arrive.
The water source will be potable water; however, once it is in the truck or a pool it is no longer considered potable. Standard start up chemicals will be required. Our trucks will travel to your pool on paved or graded dirt roads only.
A charge card number will be required when the fill is scheduled. We take Visa, Master Card or Discover Card and 80% of the quoted amount will be charged to your account when the truck completes its first fill. Once the final tally of time and water used is reported to the office any remainder will be collected. A quote provides all charges and what they represent, typically an hourly rate for service, a trip charge to the water source, and the water.

Backwash Your Filter Bi
While regularly cleaning your filter is a top priority, theres one other thing you can do to keep it running at peak performance.
Backwashing.
Its more of a quick fix for keeping things in order, but doing it regularly helps prevent debris buildup. And the less buildup, the longer your filter stays clean.
When you backwash your filter, youre essentially pumping your pool water backward into the filter.
Think of it like rinsing your mouth with Listerine the concept is pretty much the same. Its a quick way to rinse off any loose debris in the filter media and prevent clogging/buildup.
For the best results:
- Backwash your pool filter at least once a week
- For busier month, backwash twice a week
Filling A Pool With Well Water: What To Consider
Can a well provide enough water for your pool? This depends on the size of your pool and the wells supply. The wells flow rate is the number of gallons of water it can produce per hour which actually represents how quickly water flows back into the well. In other words, a well cant expel more water than it takes in.
Around 600 gallons per hour would be considered a high flow rate, and anything lower than about 150 gallons per hour would be low. If it has a high flow rate, the well can most likely fill a pool, but with a low flow rate, it may run dry. You should also consider whether youre sharing the water table with neighbors and whether youre currently in a drought.
Most wells are drilled deep into the ground, which makes the water less likely to be contaminated with bacteria, viruses, and human waste. However, since it sits below ground level for a relatively long time, theres a good chance the water contains various minerals and trace metals. These can include:
- Arsenic
- Vanadium
- Zinc
When it comes to swimming pools, the presence of these contaminants can create some issues. For example, calcium hardness can lead to clogged filters and pipes.;
Additionally, when water contains too much manganese or iron, it can lead to bacteria growth. In some instances, high levels of iron can visibly tint the water a brownish-green color and stain the walls of a pool or swimmers hair.

Can Your Pump Handle It
The health and performance of your well pump is another consideration when filling your pool with well water. You might need to beef up your hardware to fill your pool efficiently, and plan to replace your equipment more often.
Its also possible to use your pool pump to bring well water into your pool. Just remember thats not the pumps intended purpose, so it can put quite a strain on your pump, diminishing its ability to do its actual job of pushing pool water through your filtration system.
As long as you keep these caveats in mind, filling your pool from your own well may be a winner for you and your wallet.
Important: If your well is your homes only water supply, you might have a softener system and pump attached. This will ease or even eliminate concerns about water quality. You can fill your pool with a hose from the tap, just like you would with city water. But remember that youll be moving many thousands of gallons of water through your softener system, so be sure to factor in the cost of salt and the electricity required to pump the water to your pool.
Bad Smelling Well Water
They don’t call it Sulphur Springs, FL for nothing.; Believe me, the water does smell bad.; That rotten egg smell from our ground water and parts of Busch Gardens in Tampa?; Forget about it.; All those excess minerals can make it more difficult to keep your pool water balanced.;Sulphur can prevent your pool chemicals from properly working and high iron and copper content can cause pool stains and damage your equipment if left unchecked.
Test your well water for minerals and metals before filling your pool so you’ll know what you’re dealing with and what your chemistry starting point is.;

How To Tell If You Have A Leak
Because evaporation and splashout are so normal, it can be hard to tell if your pool has a leak. Heres a quick test:
If you have a leak in your pool, its important to get it fixed right away. Not only are leaks expensive, but they may damage your pool or property. Continually topping up the pool is not a good way to manage a leak.;
