The metal beams in a gorgeous silver color but if reacting with water and atmosphere, it destroys.

Iron is usually found in the water. If the origin is a well, then the nicely may comprise iron alloy in its ionic state. If you purify this water, the metals become accumulated from the pipe or pipes network until it reaches the swimming.

If you believe second pool gear is going to do your job, then you may not be thinking right. The less expensive ones are made from iron, which will readily corrode down the street.

Re: Sodium dithionite – iron outIt seems like sodium dithionite would be OK to use. The end product of this reducing agent is sulfate .Citric acid in water is mostly citrate ion and gets oxidized to acetonedicarboxylic acid and then further to malonic acid also producing chloroform and carbon dioxide . Perhaps the end product of chloroform is why the product that contains some citric acid is not recommended for use in chlorinated pools.Oxalic acid in water is mostly oxalate ion and gets oxidized to carbon dioxide.Ascorbic acid has the end product of dehydroascorbic acid. Since this product does not have any nitrogenous sites nor methyl ketone or carboxyl or sulfur sites, it does not get readily further oxidized by chlorine. The dehydroascorbic acid will mostly just stay as is in water as a dissolved organic substance.

If Iron Is Present In Your Swimming Pool In Large Quantities It Will Be Hard To Identify At First

How to Remove iron from your swimming Pool

Iron is the most common element found in the Earth, and is the fourth most common element in the Earth’s crust. Iron offers a beautiful silver color, but reacts to water and air by producing iron oxides such as rust. Iron has been used throughout human history, from copper alloys used in the first metal tools and weapons to its current use in steel beams used in skyscrapers; we will avoid the history and chemistry surrounding Iron and focus on this element in your swimming pool water.

If iron is present in your swimming pool in large quantities it will be hard to identify at first. But as the levels increase, the water will begin to develop a brown or rust-colored tint, and may even take on a bright green or black hue. Swimmers will not want to swim in water that’s high in iron; it will appear uninviting and dirty.

While acidic pool water could cause high iron by deteriorating the metal equipment in the swimming pool, chances are this excess iron comes from the water source itself; well water is notorious for providing water high in iron and other elements. But unlike water high in the element Calcium, where you may have to remove most of the water and start over, you can treat swimming pool water that’s high in iron. Iron Remover from Swim Clear is quite effective in this regard ; view Iron Remover by Swim Clear here.

What Causes Rust Stains In Pools

  • Screws, Nails, Staples
  • Parts of pieces of non-pool toys
  • Rusty water pipes bringing fill water
  • Well water from on-site water wells
  • Rebar contacting pool water, or rebar tie wires

Rust stains can develop from construction fasteners that fall into the pool, but more often come from hair pins, aka bobby pins, or pieces of non-pool toys brought into the water. Old water pipes can carry iron into the pool when adding water. A reappearing rust spot on a plaster pool can be a rebar tie wire that is too close to the surface. Chlorine products will cause corrosion of steel when placed near to one another. Vinyl pools with rusty steel coping, or rusty walls have a larger problem to deal with.

Finding the source of the rust, the steel or ferrous material is important before removing the stain. First figure out what is causing the rust stain , to avoid having to retreat the same stain over and over again.

Common Types Of Metal Found In Your Pool

Most people do not realize that they have metals in their water until an unsightly stain appears. Metal stains will commonly appear shortly after chlorine is added or after the swimming pool is shocked with granular chlorine. The two most common types of metal stains are iron and copper and are two of the most common metals that are tested when checking swimming pool water. Iron can cause rust-colored stains to develop on the finish of the swimming pool, while copper can cause the swimming pool to finish or water to appear green. Copper can be found in many mineral systems, ionizers, as well as algaecides.

Run The Filter And Add Ascorbic Acid

Pool Socks or How To Get Iron Out of Your Pool
  • Put your pool’s filter on circulation.
  • You need about 1 pound of ascorbic acid for every 10,000 gallons. So the amount to add will depend on the volume of your pool.
  • Using a tin or a cup, drop the ascorbic acid down the sides of the pool all around the perimeter, targeting most stain-affected areas.
  • Let the ascorbic acid circulate for around 30 minutes, and watch the metal stains fade away slowly before your eyes. If you still see small stains after 30 minutes, add more ascorbic acid on those spots while the filter is on for at least 24 hours.
  • After 24 hours, all the stains should have faded away. Start re-balancing your water chemistry after 24 hours.

Is That Really A Metal Stain

Pool stains are caused by one of two possibilities: either organic matter like berries and leaves, or metal. One quick way to determine if your stain is in fact metal is to rub a bit of ascorbic acid on the stainvitamin C tablets you might already have lying around should work great. If the tablets remove or at least lighten the stain, youve got metal on your hands. You know what they say: judge a stain by its color.

How To Stop Iron From Staining Your Pool

Too much iron in your pool water can appear as red, brown, black, green or gray stains on the pool walls and floor. The iron can enter the pool water by passing through corroded iron pipes and fittings connected to your pump and pool, or if you use well water to fill your pool rather than your city water supply. You can mix iron stain removers with the pool water to remove the stains, but you must keep your water balanced to stop the iron from staining your pool.

    1

Take a pool water sample to a pool supply company or use a home test kit to determine the pH levels, total alkalinity and calcium hardness. Follow the directions supplied with your pool water test kit to ensure you obtain the proper readings. Also test for the presence of stabilizers or conditioners, and for chlorine levels in the water.

    2

Add sodium bicarbonate to raise the alkalinity levels or sodium bisulfate to lower the alkalinity level. The ideal range for total alkalinity is between 80 and 120 ppm. The amount of product you add depends on the amount of water in your pool and the product. Add the amount specified on the product label to avoid moving the total alkalinity level too far in either direction.

    3

    4

    5

Add cyanuric acid to condition or stabilize the pool water, which will help avoid destruction of the chlorine in the pool and keep the water from becoming unbalanced. Continue to add cyanuric acid to the water until testing results in a reading between 30 and 50 ppm.

High Metal Content = Green Water

When a pool has a high metal content, the pool can be green. A pool can also turn green when the pH goes high, which sometimes happens with the addition of liquid chlorine because of its high pH level . High pH can also cause metals in the water to turn green and brown when they are suspended in the water.

I have not heard of the best results using Metal Free for high iron content pools, though we do like Jacks Magic products in general. ;The Magenta Stuff is meant to prevent stain and scale on the surfaces of the pool vs. take anything out of the pool water, so it makes sense that it didnt solve your issue.

How To Identify The Presence Of Iron In Water

How To Get Iron Out Of Pool Water? (Fast)

The most common form of identification is the rusty brown color of your pool water. However, you may not readily notice the presence of iron if the concentration is at normal levels. That is why you should take your pool water sample to a regional pool shop to get it analyzed.

Note that your pool water may not appear as rusty brown for a long time if its not removed. Over time, the rusty brown will change to black and then to green. At this stage, it means that your pool water has copper. It will become increasingly difficult to treat the pool water, but there is always a solution for it.
