How To Turn Off Economy Mode On Hot Tub

Hot Tub Pump Keeps Running / Hot Tub Pump Will Not Turn Off

If you have a hot tub with economy mode, you may be wondering how to turn it off.

Heres a quick guide on how to do it.

To turn off economy mode on your hot tub, start by checking the control panel to see if there is a switch or button labeled economy.

If so, simply switch or push the button to the off position.

If there is no such switch or button, youll need to consult your hot tubs owners manual for instructions on how to disable economy mode.

Once youve found the appropriate setting in the manual, make sure to follow any other instructions provided before turning off economy mode.

With economy mode turned off, your hot tub will consume more energy but will also heat up more quickly and maintain its temperature more effectively.

Do Hot Tub Jets Turn Off Automatically

Hot tub jets automatically turn off. Hot tubs have a built-in feature that will automatically turn the hot tub jets off to make sure you are not wasting electricity and to reduce wear and tear on the pipes and overall system of the hot tub.

As I mentioned, there is a high-power jet setting and a low-power jet setting in most hot tubs.

The high-power setting should turn off automatically after just 15 minutes. This is because you should not really be sitting in your hot tub for more than 15 minutes. After all, it will dry out your skin. The high-power jets also use more electricity, so they turn off quicker.

The low-powered jet setting could stay on for a few minutes to a couple of hours, depending on why it is on. If the hot tub is just heating up again, it wont be on for too long possibly less than an hour.

If the jets are on because a filtration cycle is happening, then they could stay on for a couple of hours, but they will eventually turn off automatically.

How Do I Make My Spa Jets Stronger

If there is not enough water pressure to provide powerful enough water flow to a hot tubs jets, it will likely feel as if the jets are not working properly.

However, there are a few easy fixes to create a stronger stream from a hot tubs jets. First, the hot tubs waterfall valve should be closed. This is done simply by turning the waterfall valve off and will increase the water flow coming from the jets.

Next, the hot tubs air jets should be opened. This extra force of air will add momentum to the water flowing from jets.

Finally, in order to create a greater concentration of water in a specific jet or jets, users can manually close the faces of the jets not in use. This will cause all the water to flow from the open jets and will create a much stronger stream.

Can You Put Soap Into A Hot Tub

The idea of bubbles in your hot tub may at first appeal, but when the bubbles rise up out of the spa and block the light, and then start to blow around the garden, you will probably change your mind. As a general rule no soap or detergents is best. I personally shower before I use the hot tub, to clean off any shampoo, body wash or detergents in my swimming costume. If I have guests around, I also ask them to shower, so they do not bring any soaps in to my spa. If there is a small amount of soap in the water, then a few drops of Foam Reducer will make the water nice again. The detergents which get into the spa from shampoo and body wash are not really doing any damage, but are not nice to bathe in either.

Could A Defective Hot Tub Pump Cause The Jets Not To Turn Off

How to Turn your Hot Tub into a Cool Pool

If the pump is defective, it can cause the jets to keep running, even if the water in the hot tub is above the set point and when the hot tub is not having one of its regular filtration cycles.

The pump of your hot tub is used to power the jets and pull water through the heater.

Your hot tub pump is connected to some electrical components that basically send information to the pump, telling it to run when the jets are needed.

If the hot tub has moisture around the electrical connections of the pump, it can cause some corrosion around those electrical connections. As a result, the pump has electrical power coming in, but it does not know when to run or turn off.

It could also cause the GFCI breaker to trip.

Its a good idea to check the pump for any corrosion around the electrical connections, and if you notice any, call in a professional to have a look at the pump. They may be able to clean it up, or you may have to replace some things.

But how often does the pump run?

Can I Turn Off My Hot Tub In The Summer

If you intend to use your hot tub in summer, never turn it off, as that will invite bacteria buildup. Instead, switch the mode to economy or sleep mode and lower the waters set temperature to 95 or lower.

Sleep and economy mode causes the heater to only kick in when the filtration cycles are going.

Kicking the heater in only at those times means the hot tub will run up to 20 degrees cooler than the set point. But the reality is, if it gets over 90° F , your water temp wont likely go much below 90.

Using a hot tub in the summertime was the subject of a recent article. And I get into all the details on switching modes and the best temps to set it to.

Leaving the cover off for an hour or so before entering will also bring the temperature down quicker, but you dont want to leave it off overnight if you get unwanted visitors dropping in to cool down or quench their thirst.

If you want to cool the water down quicker, you can always throw in a few ice bags, but if you do this, you will need to check the chemical balance because the ice is like adding fresh, untreated water.

Some hot tub brands, such as Caldera Spas and Hotspring Spas, have compatible cooling systems that can be attached, and these can reduce the temperature by 2° per hour.

In a recent article, I discussed using a hot tub without heat. What really surprised me was that there is a way to do it without risking bacteria buildup.

How To Turn Off A Hot Tub

The cost of running a hot tub is top of the list for most new owners. And on one hand, it might seem cheaper to shut it down after you use it. So, can you turn off a hot tub when it is not in use?

Having owned 4 hot tubs now, this is what Ive learned:

Do not turn a hot tub off after every use, as that will require re-heating the water every time it is used and create a delay in being able to use it while the water is heated. Additionally, without the ability to circulate the water, the water can stagnate and develop high levels of bacteria.

A hot tub should only be turned off when it will not be used for 4 or more weeks.

And even then, you should not just cut the power. Instead, its best to drain it, wipe it down, and leave it clean and empty with the cover on until you return. And honestly, I wouldnt even do that unless I was going to be gone well over a month.

But there are several reasons why it is best to leave your hot tub running all the time. And there are even a couple of reasons when that isnt the best procedure.

So if you want to know why, read on.

What Is An Air Lock In A Hot Tub

How to turn off hot tub and pool heat

Air locks happen when the hot tub is being filled with water. It is possible for both ends of a plumbing system to simultaneously fill up with water at both the suction end and the return end which sometimes leaves an air lock in the plumbing. This can cause both heater and pump problems. To overcome this issue it is suggested to push the hose pipe down into where your filters screw in which will purge all the air out of your important heating and circulation systems.

Do You Need Planning Permission To Install A Hot Tub

Planning permission is not normally required for items of a relocatable/temporary nature like a hot tub or swim spa, however, if you live in an area of outstanding natural beauty, or listed property or a conservation area you would do well to seek advice from the planners before installing your pool or spa.

Why Does My Hot Tub Keep Shutting Off

If a hot tub is continuously shutting off, it is likely it is tripping the breaker. There are 7 common causes that cause this to happen including a worn GFCI Breaker, moisture in the breaker box, corrosion, loose or damaged wires, faulting components, a bad heating element, or a flooded air blower or ozonator.

If any one of these instances takes place, the breaker will trip alerting owners to the issue. Rather than just flipping a breaker switch, the problem area should be identified and resolved in order to stop the hot tub from continuously shutting off and prevent any irreversible damage that may otherwise occur.

How To Clean A Wood

Wood-fired hot tubs are used a little differently. Most people will empty and refill their tub after every two to three uses.

Each time you do, you should drain it completely, wash the inside and outside with a hose and soft cloth, and empty the ash from the stove using a shovel.

You also need to treat the wood once a year to keep it good condition. The treatment will differ depending on the wood your tub is made from, so check your manual for details.

Therapy pumps should be powered off using the steps above. The circulation pump does not need to be turned off during the cleaning process. The main pump that circulates your water will help disperse cleaning agents through the pipes and the rest of your hot tub. There is no reason to power down your hot tub for cleaning.

What If I Do Not Put Chemicals In To My Hot Tub

If you do not want to put any chemicals in to your hot tub, no problem. But you must drain down and refill after each use and ensure that the water is never in the spa for more than 12 hours! If this seems like t0o much hard work and you want to keep the same water in the spa for up to 3-4 months then you have to balance Alkalinity, PH and Sanitizer or your water will become foul and dangerous.

Dont Turn Off The Power And Leave Your Hot Tub Full Of Water

To maintain a consistent hot tub temperature and avoid costly energy bills, keep your hot tub on at all times. The hot tub temperature will drop if turned off, and it will cost you more to reach the ideal temperature again.

Also, stagnant hot tub water is a hospitable environment for bacteria growth. So to keep your spa water circulated, filtered, and sanitized, keep your spa running.

If you go out of town, keep your hot tub covered and have the pump timer set so your hot tub water gets a few hours of high-speed circulation each day, along with low-speed circulation throughout.

Although you dont need to keep the pump running all day and night in a covered hot tub, your hot tub water does need daily circulation.

Keeping your hot tub running in winter will also prevent freezing damage to the equipment.

Use Your Hot Tub As A Summer Cool Tub

This year we have had a beautiful and hot summer in the Pacific North West. With all that summer heat you probably havent been using your hot tub as much. Well, were here to help. Turning your hot tub into a summer time cool tub can be the perfect solution to these hot summers. The best part is, its pretty simple to do. Although hot tubs dont have a cooler to cool your water, most hot tubs have built in settings to assist you in maintaining temperatures cooler than 100 degrees .

The water in your hot tub doesnt have to be freezing to use as a cool tub. Actually, anything under your body temperature of 98.6°F is going to cool you down even if its only a couple of degrees.

Clean Your Hot Tub And Filters Thoroughly

HOW TO TURN ON THE HOT TUB

Once the water is completely drained from your hit tub, its time to give it a thorough cleaning. Using warm water and dish detergent works well. If there are heavy stains, though, a more potent cleaning agent might be necessary. One caveat, though, is to never, ever use a harsh cleaner or metal scrubber. These can ruin your hot tubs finish or, at the very least, make it look unattractive.

While youre cleaning, make sure to remove the filters and clean them also. A good rinsing is usually enough, then let them dry well before putting them back in place.

Total Alkalinity And Ph Levels

When you add and test your sanitiser, you should also test the total alkalinity of your hot tub water and balance the pH levels.

The total alkalinity should be 80-120ppm, with a pH between 7.2 and 7.8. A low pH can lead to itchy, dry skin, and can also damage the hot tub shell, while high levels can cause scale build-up and cloudy or foamy water. Unbalanced levels either way can also reduce the effectiveness of the sanitiser.

To raise the alkalinity in your hot tub, you should add sodium bicarbonate or any other type of alkalinity increaser. To lower acidity levels, use a reducer.

How Do I Turn Off My Hot Tub

The easiest way to turn off a hard-wired 220v hot tub is to switch the breaker in the nearby disconnect box to off. For plug-and-play hot tubs, simply unplug them.

This is not such a dumb question as it might sound, especially if you have just moved into a new home and youve inherited a hot tub, or maybe you have a vacation home and dont use it that often.

It is important to know how to turn off your hot tub because you will have to clean it every 3 or 4 months.

To do that, you will have to turn it off and drain the water. You will also have to do this when youre not going to be using it for a long period.

You will also need to shut your hot tub down if you are doing any electrical or mechanical maintenance work to avoid electric shock. This is a job for the experts, not a novice.

You should never run a hot tub without water in it this will damage the pump and heater.

Your hot tubs disconnect box is a small grey metal box. It will be located at least 5 feet from the hot tub, but typically no more than 50 feet. It will likely be mounted to the side of your house fairly close to the hot tub.

Open the hatch on the disconnect box.

Inside you will see a large circuit breaker. Just flip that to the off position, and your power is now off. If there are 2 switches, you need to shut them both off to make sure no current is flowing to the hot tub.
