Where the gas enters the fins, its warm enough to scald you. The technical name for these cooling fins is a condenser. To explain how it becomes so hot and how it relates to a heat pump, lets first mention two interesting phenomena:
- When you release compressed propane from a tank, its icy where the gas escapes because it absorbs heat from the air as it expands.
These two principles form the basis of the refrigerator cooling system. A special refrigerant gas in a closed system is compressed to the point where it becomes a warm liquid . The warm liquid then moves through the condenser , this allows it to lose some of the latent heat.
