Before taking any action, its important to know what youre dealing with. The easiest way to test the stain is to take some sandpaper and rub the area. If the stain disappears, then you know you dont have a serious issue on your hands. If the stain continues to increase in size, severity or intensity, then its likely that the stain is coming from below the surface of your pool.
Another way to test for stains is to use other items you may already have at home. For suspected iron-causing stains, take a vitamin C tablet and hold it against the stain for approximately 30 seconds. If the stain lightens or disappears, its likely that iron is staining your pool. For decomposing organic debris, hold a trichlor tablet on the stain for 30 seconds. If the stain lightens, decaying organic material is likely the issue.

Will Baking Soda Remove Rust From Concrete
Some people have great results using baking soda mixed with laundry detergent for removing rust stains from concrete. Use a 1:1 ratio of baking soda and laundry detergent.
Supplies you’ll need include:
- Water enough to create paste
- Large spoon for mixing
Steps for removing rust on concrete:
S For Using Ascorbic Acid
1. Lower your chlorine to 0 and pH to 7.2, if there is chlorine in the water it wont hurt, it will just eat up the ascorbic acid, so you will need more to get rid of the stains.2. If you think you may get algae you can add Polyquat 60, but do not use a copper-based algaecide.
3. You will need about a half to one pound of ascorbic acid per 10,000 gallons, and its best to gradually increase the amount until the stains are gone.4. Add the acid around the perimeter of the pool and set your filter to RECIRCULATE, or if you have a cartridge filter then you can just remove the cartridges and let the water circulate.5. Brush the pool to stir the acid.6. Run your pump for about 2 hours.7. If the stain hasnt disappeared, add more acid or let the pump run longer. You can also brush stubborn areas to help the acid penetrate the stain.8. After the stain has been removed, add a sequestering agent per manufacturer directions for your pool volume to keep the metal from redepositing.

Using Vitamin C Tablets
With the pandemic, every household should have some vitamin C on hand, and if youve gone overboard with stocking up on vitamin C then this is the perfect use for them!
