Epoxy Concrete Pool Deck Cost

Decorative Concrete Pool Deck Coatings by Sider-Crete, Inc.

Epoxying a concrete floor costs anything from $3 to $12 per square foot. The average cost of completing a job is $2,293, with most owners spending between $1,475 and $3,130. The size of any project and the quality of epoxy would be the most crucial pricing variables.

Is it worth it? Epoxy flooring protects the underlying concrete against moisture, stains, grease, and cracks. By removing the need to clean, you may save a lot of money on cleaning and upkeep in the long term. It is also incredibly affordable for the length of time and degree of security.

Common Challenges To Ordinary Pool Deck Coatings

  • The most common problem weve seen on Colorado pool decks, both indoors and outdoors, is the tendency for the coating to chip and peel.
  • Chipping and peeling usually happens within the first couple years of coating installation if you do not get a coating that can withstand Colorados tough weather conditions. The material that is installed looks great at first, but shortly over time, it could chip.
  • It is extremely important prior to any coating installation to prepare the surface. This means repairing cracks and spalling, sometimes grinding the concrete smooth, and cleaning it. A well-prepared surface will have better adhesion!
  • Many coatings just arent ready to withstand the high UV radiation that Colorado has, and therefore, youll see the coating chip and peel in areas with high sun exposure.
  • Most pool deck coatings do not stand up to the high UV radiation we have in Colorado.
  • Our UV rays in Colorado can damage not only ourskin, but pool deck coatings and other outdoor surfaces if the material is not specified to handle UV.
  • With higher UV radiation, pool deck coatings must be able to protect the concrete slab from the harmful deteriorating effects. Many are not up for this challenge. Youll see certain pool deck coatings that do well in places like Texas, where they do not have high UV radiation, but when you install that same pool deck coating in Colorado, it does not do as well.
  • Some pool deck coatings are beautiful, but they trap dirt and grime.
  • Fill Cracks With Caulk To Make The Deck Look New Again

As cracks develop in the concrete, they will create areas for water to creep under your pool deck, which could compromise it further. It also leaves a place for weeds to grow or ants to take home, so we want to fill them all.

The easiest way to do this is to use caulking, either in a squeeze tube or a caulking gun. When purchasing caulk at the local hardware store, try to find a product labeled for concrete and masonry repairs such as those by Quickcrete and Locktite.

If there is an old, cracked, or constricted caulk already in the cracks, it is best to remove it rather than put a new caulk over it.

You can use a box knife or paint scraper to remove the old caulk and prepare a clean surface for the new caulk to adhere to.

Apply the new caulk into any cracks less than about ¼ inch wide and smooth using a gloved finger .

For larger cracks, stuff the correct size of foam backer rod into the crack or hole to support the caulk.

My deck looks great, and it really does keep the deck cooler. It also seems to be very durable as I accidently dragged patio furniture across it, and it showed no marks or damage. I recommend your product, but I am really impressed with your customer service. I am not a large contractor or company, just merely a homeowner trying some DIY improvement to my ugly pool deck. I am glad I found this product and this company. Many, many thanks.

We applied this product over our existing Sundeck. The application was easy, dried quickly and left a great finish. We applied two coats as directed and applied two coats of Sealback sealant. We couldnt be happier. This is an excellent product line with great results. I would highly recommend this product. If you arent a do it yourself type person there are contractors installing this product. Encore saved us a lot of money as it is more affordable than the other products on the market. None of the other products have the lifetime warranty either..just cant say enough about this great product.

Pros Of Concrete Pool Deck Paint:

    • Provides lots of color options. Because there are a range or pool deck paint colors to choose from, there are many possibilities when it comes to adding color to a pool deck surface. You can create a simple monochromatic surface or get detailed with stencils, making the deck your art canvas.
    • Covers up minor blemishes. Minor stains from dirt, leaf litter, and the like can be covered up with deck paint since it is opaque.
    • Provides a nonporous surface. When a pool deck is painted properly, the layers of primer, paint, and sealer create a nonporous surface that makes it easy to spray off dirt and grime.
    • Can be applied using common tools. One of the appeals of painting a pool deck is that the paint can be applied with a roller, so this is a more accessible project for people who arent contractors.
    • Is very affordable. Painting your concrete pool deck wont cost a ton of money, especially if you do it yourself. For a pool deck thats around 600 square feet youll probably spend under $500 on materials and supplies.

How To Paint Your Pool Deck

Painting a pool deck is a different process for each type of material. And the amount of prep work youll have to do varies with different paints and different deck conditions.

For wood decks, you may need to hammer in or remove loose nails, sand down or cut rough spots, and fill in knot holes or deep cracks.

Heres a good video that walks you through the whole process:

For cement decks, its a good idea to power wash and remove as much of any old sealant as possible.

Once youve prepped your surface, all thats left to do is brush, roll, or spray on the paint. Each product is different and has its own suggested application method, but spraying or rolling will give you the smoothest finish.

Youll also need to pay careful attention to drying times to decide how much time to give it between coats.

Can You Put Epoxy On A Pool Deck

3 Reasons Why Concrete Coatings Will Keep Your Pool Deck Looking Better ...

Yes! Epoxying a pool deck is recommended by experts because of its high-quality look. Aside from that, it also helps prevent future damage and rough spots. They also have anti-slip coatings, which are necessary around swimming pools.

There are various kinds of pool deck sealers that you can use: acrylic and water repellent sealers. On concrete, acrylic sealers will leave a visible surface film. Because of the film, when water splashes up onto the coating, it just rests on the surface.

While the coat itself is not slippery, the water on the surface certainly is. For youngsters and the elderly, this may be dangerous. If you use an acrylic sealer, add a non-slip ingredient to the topcoat to help with traction.

Unlike acrylic coatings, water-resistant sealers do not leave a visible surface film. They operate inside the concrete slabs pores. This kind of sealer interacts chemically with the concrete surface, reducing water absorption by 95%. It produces a hydrophobic barrier in the poured concretes small gaps.

On the other hand, you can best seal pool decks using an epoxy concrete sealer. Decks with a rough surface or areas that need repair due to cracks or pits are especially vulnerable. The epoxy fills in gaps and minor holes in the pool deck. It also provides an easy-to-clean surface that will not fade from pool chemicals or UV rays, among other things.
