Health Concerns For Pool Patrons
People with certain contagious diseases or infections should not swim in pools. This includes individuals with vomiting, diarrhea, fever and other infections.
Children who are not toilet trained should wear diapers along with plastic pants that are tight fitting at the waist and legs. Change diapers in a bathroom or a diaper-changing area and not at poolside.

We have been to Vegas last year and this year in June and obviously the pools were open, in fact a life saver!!
Next year we plan to go at the end of March for one night and the 17th and 18th April.

It depends on the hotel. Some stay open all year. Some don’t open until May. Many are open in March and April.
Almost all of the hotels will have a pool open the end of March. The larger pool complexes will probably not have all their pools in use, Most notably MGM which doesn’t usually have their lazy river open that early. But Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo usually do, if that matters in your choice of hotel.
Even if they have a pool open, its unlikely to really be “pool weather”. You could get lucky and get a warm sunny day. But more likely than not it will be on the cool side.
Unless a pool is closed for renovations or something, I’ve never heard of one opening as late as May. They will all be open in April. For late-march, you should expect just about every hotel’s pool area to be open. But if the pool area has multiple pools, some might be closed.
Late March is still iffy for pool weather. April 17th should be fine.
More specifically does anyone know if the Golden Nugget pool will be open around 28th March?
For a specific question like that, your best bet is to call the hotel and ask. What has been the case previously may not necessarily apply in 2013. But they may not have a definite answer until early next year.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.
Public pools in Kentucky will officially be able to reopen at the end of this month, according to a release from Gov. Andy Beshear on Tuesday.
In order to reopen, they must comply with the state’s ‘Healthy at Work’ requirements for Public Swimming and Bathing Facilities.
Some of those guidelines include:

Jcps Seeks Parents’ Feedback
Jefferson County Public Schools has launched a survey asking parents, students and teachers to weigh in on the districts use of remote learning, known in Kentucky as nontraditional instruction, or NTI.
The survey opened Friday and runs through June 12. Surveys can be picked up beginning Monday at JCPS meal sites or can be accessed online for staff, parents and students at jefferson.kyschools.us.
“As a district, we always want to listen to our employees, parents and students about any new measures or initiatives and see how JCPS might improve, especially if we are forced into a similar, unfortunate school-at-home situation in the future,” Superintendent Marty Pollio said.
The last day of remote learning for JCPS is May 27. It’s unclear when JCPS will reopen, though its previously scheduled start date is August 12.

Governor Beshear Announces Dates For Pools To Reopen
Governor Andy Beshear announced a change to his policy on opening pools during his news conference Thursday night.
Specific guidelines arent out for public or private pools, but Beshear said he hopes they can open June 29, likely with a cap on the number of people allowed.
Before this, a group of private pools in Lexington submitted a proposal to the governor, showing their plans to operate safely.
Beshear said he wont be like diving into the deep end when it come to reopening pools, more so dipping his toe in.
He promised guidelines for pools will be available by June 29, but said there would likely be a limited capacity.
Greenbrier Country Clubs pool employees said they are ready for guests now.
I think that we can really maintain social distancing and proper cleaning if they let us open pools, said club assistant manager Miles Hart.
Hart said he plans to put three lounge chairs of space in between families to enforce social distancing, and hes done the math.
We have 235 lounge chairs, and of those lounge chairs we would probably only let 50 people in and that includes kids in the same family, so maybe 20 families, he said.
Hart said he and a group of private pool managers are making waves, submitting a proposal to the governor with their plans to reopen, for a reason.
It seems unfair that the restaurants are able to do this with their outdoor spaces, yet we cant, Hart said.
Beshear said hes not blowing the whistle to open up pools in the Commonwealth.

Guidelines Released To Allow Pools To Reopen In Kentucky By End Of June
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Public and private pools can open in Kentucky before the end of the month, Gov. Andy Beshear said Tuesday. But they must comply with social distancing and other requirements to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The rules apply to pools including those operated by communities, subdivisions, apartment complexes, clubs, camps, schools, institutions, parks, hotels and recreational areas.
Among the new guidelines:
- No waiting areas are allowed.
- Frequently touched surfaces, and facilities have to be cleaned properly.
- Public pools are also being told to encourage guests to bring their own seats.
If the pools meet the new requirements, they can reopen in Kentucky on June 29.
There are limits to the number of people allowed in a swimming area depending on its size. To determine the maximum number of people allowed in a pool, facilities must take their water surface area in feet and divide it by 36. For a 2,000-square-foot pool, for example, the maximum capacity would be 55, the governors office said.
Pool operators should apply the same calculation to the rest of the facility. Chairs must be placed 6 feet apart on all sides.
The rules apply to swimming, wading and wave pools beaches competition swimming and diving pools spas spray, therapeutic, hydrotherapy, whirlpools and water slides.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.
Despite the heavy downpour Monday morning, pools began reopening in Kentucky as part of the states phased reopening plan.
At the Plainview Swim Center in Jeffersontown, poolside chairs and furniture have all been removed as officials try to reduce the potential spread of germs.
Visitors are permitted to bring their own chairs.
This is completely different, said the citys parks and recreation director, Debbie Hendrick. As you can see, we have no chairs out. We have — we’re calling them pods — that people will get. Then, we will mark off the pod next to them for that social distancing 6 feet.
The pool grounds are marked with measured areas, or pods, to keep visiting groups together safely. Masks are encouraged when visitors are not in the pool.
Plainview lifeguards now wear masks when they are not on their posts and whenever they have to interact with guests, according to Hendrick.
They have added cleaning duties as well.
We’re wearing masks, our guards never had to do that, Hendrick told WLKYs Marvis Herring. It’s a lot of new changes for everybody.
Those changes are realized before guests can enter, she explained.
The passes are $7 for adults and $5 for children.
Five-day passes are $25 and 25-day passes are $100.

The amount of individuals allowed in a pool will depend on the pool’s size. To determine the amount of swimmers allowed in a certain pool, take the water surface area and divide by 36 square feet. The resulting number is the maximum pool capacity. For example, a 2,000 square foot pool would have a capacity of 55 people .
Any chairs on the deck should be spaced six feet apart on all sides.
If the pools meet the guidelines, they can open on June 29.

Protest Over Green River Planned
The “Prison Wives of Green River Correctional Complex” are organizing the “We Are Their Voice #InmatesMatter March” from 2 to 6:30 p.m. May 23 at the Capitol, according to a Facebook event.
“Join us in demanding justice for inmates across Kentucky,” reads the event description. It asks that attendees wear a mask and stay home if they are sick. It also says social distancing measures will be observed.

Employees at Scott County Parks and Recreation say a big part of keeping people safe is limiting the number of people in the pool at one time.

They say that was already the case when the center opened its lap pools for exercise. They plan to continue that practice when pools open for recreational swimming starting Monday. The state recommends that facilities divide water surface area by 50 square feet to determine how many people can be in a pool at one time.
Were going to try to be doing the things that were already doing, said pavilion manager Mary Franey. Well work encouraging masks. All of our staff will be wearing masks. We clean regularly four times.
Franey says that includes spraying down pool decks, stairs, slides, and bleachers.
According to state guidelines, recreational swimming facilities must pass a health department inspection before they can reopen.
Other guidelines include eliminating the use of saunas and steam rooms. Health officials advise swimmers to wear masks when outside the pool.

The Louisville Zoo canceled its July and August summer camps for children.

Louisville Public Pools To Open Memorial Day Weekend
LOUISVILLE, Ky. After last year’s pool schedule was changed due to the pandemic, Louisville Parks and Recreation announced three public swimming pools will open starting Saturday, May 29.
Algonquin, Fairdale and Sun Valley outdoor pools will begin operation noon this Saturday, following a set schedule through the summer.
Parks and Rec said Algonquin will be closed Tuesdays, Fairdale closed Monday and Sun Valley closed Wednesdays. Each pool will have two sessions from noon to 2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. The timing allows for staff to sanitize and prep between guests.
Pools will be operating at 75% capacity until mandates end June 11. Unlike in 2020, advanced reservations will not be needed, but guests will not be allowed to enter the pool area once pools reach capacity limits.
Until June 11, all COVID-19 guidelines must be followed. Masks are still required on the pool deck. Guests should practice social distancing in and out of the water. Furniture is not allowed on the pool decks to encourage social distancing.
Admission is $2. Children eight and under must be accompanied by a person 12 or older. Parks and Rec said ID is required for anyone nine and older.
While all three pools have the proper amount of staff, Parks and Rec said it is looking for more lifeguards.
Smith said anyone who wants to work as a lifeguard can get certified for free as long as they work throughout the summer. For more information, .
Is Caesars Palace Pool Open To The Public
The Go Pool is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to 5 p. The pool is open daily, but patrons must be 21 years of age or older on Saturdays and Sundays. There is no charge for hotel guests, but anyone can book a cabana or a daybed online. Guests of hotels can enter for free, and the public can rent cabanas or daybeds online.

Metro Parks Department Lays Out Summer Plans For Public Pools
Future of Fairdale, Sun Valley, and Algonquin pools discussed
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Though a chill is still in the air, the fate of public pools in Louisville was up for discussion by a Metro Council committee Thursday night.
Last summer, families out for a swim were met with COVID-19 precautions and limited operations.
The Parks Department said its planning for Fairdale and Sun Valley pools to run a more traditional schedule in 2021. Those facilities would open Memorial Day weekend. They will only be accessible on the weekends until kids get out of school. After that, city officials said they plan to operate them throughout the entire week with one scheduled day off.
Swimmers will likely still need to preregister to swim by signing up for one of two swim sessions.
Metro Parks is still looking into how the pandemic may continue to impact capacity.
City workers said the Algonquin pool and facilities supporting it are need of serious renovations.
Metro Councilwoman Keisha Dorsey of District 3 said instead of putting resources toward opening it this year, she envisions saving up to build a brick-and-mortar aquatic center at the site that could be used year-round.
What is our true goal in opening it? she said. Is it just the purpose to have it open or to really have a community asset? I would say the goal is a community asset.
