How Does The Wave Pool Work

[HD] Impressive Wave Pool – Huge Tidal Waves at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon

In small wave pools, pressurized air is blown onto the surface of the water, or a paddle creates force in the water, creating small ripple-like waves. However, in high-volume wave pools, a large volume of water is quickly allowed into the far end of the pool, forcing the water to even out, generating a sizeable wave.

What Do We Do Once We Get There

Typhoon Lagoon has seven water slide rides, one kiddie slide, one child play area, a lazy river, and a wave pool. We didnt get to them all, but Im going to give you the highlights of the main things everyone seemed to like.

Surf lessons

Disneys Typhoon lagoon is the only waterpark in Central Florida that offers surf lessons. There are 2 surfing options: the Hang 10 private lessons for experienced surfers and Surf like a Pro group lessons for all skill levels. Al guests must be at least 8 years old to participate.

The lessons are offered on select days before the park opens.

The Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool

Typhoon Lagoon is one of the worlds largest wave pools with SIX FOOT WAVES. Listen. My son loves a good wave/surf pool. So he were obsessed with this one!

We legitimately could have stayed in it all day. The Surf pool is made to resemble a beach, so you have little areas that have small waves and shallow water for the little people and people who dont know how to swim.

Crush N Gusher

This is a roller coaster-like attraction that takes riders aboard inflatable rafts on a twisting turning up an down adventure propelled by powerful water jets.

The Water Slides

Typhoon Lagoon has several water slides and raft rides.

Castaway Creek

We love a good lazy river! The lazy river winds around the entire park, and it takes you through a misty rainforest area, a hidden grotto and more. Its just fun to relax and laugh.

Ketchakiddee Creek

Height Requirements At Disneys Typhoon Lagoon

Typhoon Lagoon is one of the most popular water parks, and its easy to see why. With its thrilling slides, lazy river, and wave pool, theres something for everyone to enjoy.

Best of all, only two attractions at Typhoon Lagoon have a minimum height requirement. Additionally, a few attractions geared toward little ones have a maximum height requirement.

This article will detail the attractions with height requirements at Disneys Typhoon Lagoon.

Youll find that the thrill slides, including the iconic Crush N Gusher, do have minimum height requirements. However, the lazy river, wave pool, and several slides are open to guests of all heights.

Lets take a look at the individual height requirements for each attraction.

Overview Of Disneys Typhoon Lagoon

According to legend, this tropical paradise was struck by a typhoon, a massive storm that left ships, surfboards, fishing gear and other debris scattered around the area. At least, thats the theme of this Orlando water park, which opened in 1989 as part of Walt Disney World® Resort. Today, Disneys Typhoon Lagoon operates in every season and is home to 11 major attractions, including North Americas largest wave pool, thrilling coaster-like raft rides, kid-friendly water playgrounds and more. The water is heated, making it warm and comfortable any time of year.

Blizzard Beach Is Better For Kids

Typhoon Lagoon# Wave Pool # wdw

Well, if you read a few paragraphs above, you probably arent surprised with this conclusion, but this is a little closer than you might think.

Both of the Disney water parks are totally great for kids, but Blizzard Beach has more specifically for kids. While you could call the kiddie play areasKetchakiddee and Tikes Peakequal, Blizzard Beach has a large area dedicated to pre-teens called Ski Patrol Training Camp.

The Training Camp has a miniature ropes course, slides, a zipline, and space for swimming. Really, what does this add to your day? About 15 minutes. Typhoon Lagoon does have the Bay Slides for kids , which is sort of like having one element of the Training Camp in Typhoon Lagoon.

The flip side of this is that Typhoon Lagoon an extra ride without a height requirement. Of the major seven rides at each park, four have no height requirements at Blizzard Beach and five have no height requirement at Typhoon Lagoon. Even though these dont have specific height requirements, the cutoff is still typically No Infants.

All that said, Training Camp is really cool and wins the day. The Training Camp is probably a good sweet spot for kids who are looking for something with a little edge but who cant be convinced to go down the full slides.

Typhoon Lagoon Wave And Surf Pool

One of the first major water park attractions you will see after you enter is the Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool. Set as a main focal point, this is no ordinary wave pool. Other Water Parks have a wave pool but most of them are simple in nature, making simple waves in the water. The main difference at the Disney Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool is the way that the attraction is presented. You will not see walls of concrete surrounding this monstrosity but you will see a design of wooden plank walls as well as a rock formation built as a fantastic backdrop housing the large reservoir of water that creates the extraordinary waves.

A Surf Pool Vs A Wave Pool

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Reopens | Walt Disney World Resort

Blizzard Beach has a wave pool that is filled with small bobbing waves continuously through the day. Its fun to bob around in .

Typhoon Lagoons wave pool is that same thingfor about a third of the day. The rest of the time, the wave pool has proper surf waves every 90 seconds. These are huge waves that are awesome to swim with, jump into, and generally try to survive. A typical seven hour day has 5.5 hours of surf waves and 1.5 hours of bobbing waves.

Also, you can have inner tubes in the Blizzard Beach wave pool, but theyre not allowed in the Typhoon Lagoon surf pool, even during bobbing time.

You might argue that the Blizzard Beach wave pool is better for kids because of its constant bobbing waves, but kids of all sizes can enjoy the surf waves, they just have to do it appropriately close to shore.

Theres nothing tallest like a 168ft water slide in Kansas that killed Caleb Schwab in front of his family. As of today, August 7, 2017, he is remembered five years after his horrible passing. Disney Resort Refillable Mugs & Water Parks

Just like the resorts, the Disney Water parks also have refillable mugs. However, your resort mug wont work at the stations in the water parks. You can either purchase a sticker that when affixed to your resort mug will activate the drink refill stations or you can buy a new mug .

The mugs/stickers are good for 1 day however, you can bring your mug back on subsequent trips and save a few bucks by just purchasing a new sticker.

What Is The Surf Pool Like

The centerpiece of Typhoon Lagoon, the Surf Poolcan send waves up to six feet high crashing onto the shores of the lagoon. The waves originate at the base of Mt. Mayday with loud, deep whoosh and then speed along the deep outer lagoon which is enclosed on three sides by timber retaining walls that hold back the volcanic mountain slopes.

The waves break just as they clear the walls, at which point the water is six feet deep. The surf fans out into the sea-shell shaped shallow part of the lagoon until it rolls up onto the beach.

The waves alternate between surf waves that come at 90 second intervals and continuous, gently-bobbing waves. In years past the cycle alternated every hour, but recently the tide, so to speak, has tilted in favor of surf, with a 90 minute surf/30 minute bobbing cycle.

There is a small chalkboard at the edge of the beach near the front of the park on which the days wave schedule is posted.

Note: Inner tubes, which used to be allowed with the bobbing waves, are no longer permitted at any time in the lagoon.

Mayday Falls Gangplank Falls And Keelhaul Falls

Disney Park Strengths and Weaknesses: Typhoon Lagoon

On the opposite side of Mount Mayday, the left side if youre looking at Miss Tilly is where youll find the more mellow raft rides. Again you have three slides here and theyre similar to each other but there are some distinct differences between them. Both Mayday Falls and Keelhaul Falls are raft rides where youll sit solo.

Mayday Falls

I think younger guests who are a little intimidated by the body slides, will really enjoy these two. But I must admit I dont find these very comfortable for the adults either, specifically Mayday Falls.

There are several large bumps along the way meant to slow you down a bit and they prevent you from going too fast. I also find the shape of this slide a little odd I found that its not quite wide enough to fit and I had a few close calls along the way.

Keelhaul Falls

Out of these two slides, I definitely prefer Keelhaul Falls as its a lot smoother and not so bumpy. The other downside to these two slides is that youll have to carry the rafts up the mountain yourself and like I said before Typhoon Lagoon has a lot of stairs. Sometimes the stairs even go down, just so they can go back up again, and I cant make sense of it.

Gangplank Falls

Mayday Falls is definitely the bumpiest slide, but Gangplank Falls is a good warm-up for the little ones before getting on Miss Adventure Falls which is a lot faster and bigger. Just note that like the previous two youll have to carry the rafts up the stairs yourself.

Typhoon Lagoon Water Slides And Rides

Like Blizzard Beach, this place is divided up into sections, which group the water slides together, based on their intensity. There are less than 10 slides and they are grouped together near the kids play area and the parks newest additions are conveniently located near a quieter lounge area that the adults will enjoy.

Complete Guide To Typhoon Lagoon At Disney World

Typhoon Lagoon is one of 2 Disney-owned water parks at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. With its towering palm trees and island feel, youll find it far more tropical than its counterpart over at Blizzard Beach and a popular destination for guests wanting a break from the main theme parks.

But, just like the theme parks, a little advanced planning can help you minimize your waits and maximize your experience, and we have the tips and resources to help you do just that.

Lets take a look

Faq I Got On The Gram

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool – Big Waves!

What if my kid or I have food allergies, is there anything to eat?

Yes, we ate at Leaning Palms and there was an extensive allergy menu!

Can we bring our own food?

Disney will allow you to bring a small cooler, though they will check it for alcohol or glass containers . You can also bring your refillable drink mugs from the resorts.

Do you need a full day at the park?

I say no. The park was small enough that if you get there when it opens, you could be finished, with lunch around 2 or 3.

Can you use your magic bands?

YES! They can be used to pay for food, drinks, souvenirs or anything else you might need. This is really convenient since you wont be carrying around a wallet or purse in the water park. AND the Magic Bands are waterproof!

Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool

srobinet said:Hi, I was not sure which board this belonged on. How strong are waves at Typhoon Lagoon in the wave pool? We recently went to our local waterpark and I noticed along the pool’s edges close to the walls that the waves were very strong enough to knock you down. My granddaughters are 8 and 9 and after seeing this we made them put on life jackets. The waves were knocking people off of their inner tubes and then the next wave would slam the tube into anyone in it’s way. Is it the same at Typhoon Lagoon? Is it different depending on where you are in the pool? They really want to go to the water parks but I am concerned about the wave pool.

Getting To And Getting Into Blizzard Beach

If you are staying at one of Disney Worlds on-property hotels , you could use Disneys transportation system to get to Blizzard Beach. Buses are the only mode of complimentary transportation that services the park. You could determine how to get from your point of origin to Blizzard Beach by using the My Disney Experience mobile app.

You could also use your own car and park in the lot. Unlike the theme parks, parking is free for all guests at Blizzard Beach. Another way to get there from within Disney World would be to use the Minnie Van service, a personal ride service that works with the Lyft app.

Youll need a separate pass to get into Blizzard Beach. In 2019, a 1-day ticket for guests age 10+ costs $69 or $64 depending on whether you purchase a ticket with blockout dates . You could also add Blizzard Beach admission to your theme park ticket package by opting for the add-on, Park Hopper Plus. Be careful, however. The option may not make sense if you would be only be going to the water park once during your visit.
