A Ski Resort In Florida

[HD] Impressive Wave Pool – Huge Tidal Waves at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon

There is a high-concept backstory that the Imagineers developed for Blizzard Beach. Years ago it seems, a freak snowstorm engulfed Central Florida. Enterprising businesspeople capitalized on the situation and builtvery quickly, one would assumethe states only ski resort. It was complete with a chairlift to the top of Mount Gushmore.

Of course, the snow melted, and the whole place turned into watery mush. As savvy entrepreneurs, the developers switched gears and turned the place into a water park. The alpine theme, however, remained. The buildings, with their peaked roofs look like wintry lodges that belong more in Colorado than Floridaalthough some of them have the bright pastel colors of the Sunshine State. Pine trees sub for palm trees. Curiously, icicles and patches of snow still abound.

There are sight gags embedded throughout the park that denote Blizzard Beachs hasty retreat from ski resort to water park. There is a used sled lot, for example, with handmade signs promising “Low, low miles. A former ski rental shack has been repurposed into a towel and locker rental concession.

Typhoon Lagoon Water Park Tips

  • Relax with the help of water shoes, if you want to spend a day or two at the water park. Although they look fun, they are worth it and are much easier than keeping the flip-flops under Crush n Gusher. The most important thing is that if you are climbing the next day in the Magic Kingdom, you must protect these feet!
  • Bring your own supplies instead of renting or buying locally. As a family, you save a lot of money if you bring your own towels Instead of borrowing them. Make sure you can fill and bring other products, such as sunscreen, to your local grocery store, so you do not have to pay for the convenience of the place.
  • Arrive early, especially if you drive a car or need more beach chairs. The parking lot is smaller and fills up quickly on busy days. Although there are enough hammocks, the best spots are available within an hour after opening the park.
  • Take the cheapest sunglasses with you! Leap quickly learned the lesson when he lost the color of his most recent frog due to the cold. Buy a $ 5 glass at the pharmacy for your underwater adventure.
  • Always remember to stay hydrated: This is our most serious suggestion. Nothing can ruin your day, as if you were completely exhausted by the sun. Drink lots of water to have fun throughout the day.

Winner: Typhoon Lagoon By One Point

When it comes to Typhoon Lagoon vs. Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon comes out on topbut how much weight should you really put in this?

Obviously if you actually read this entire post, you know how close the Disney World water parks are in quality. Three of our six categories came out as ties, and thats because you really have to get down to the nitty gritty to divide them, and even then theyd come out pretty even.

In our mind, the decisive factor in this analysis was theme. Theme! We appreciate theme, but were guessing 90% of readers are going to think both are equally great in theme.

The point is, dont let this final score make the decision for you. Figure out what points are important to you, and decide based on those.

Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool Dangerous

Dwarful said:We enjoy the wave pool. However, I was the victim of a major scrape, thanks to a panic striken grandma. I think the key to the pool is to try to distance yourself from other people. The last time we were there we saw a guy just about lose his swim trunks due to his kids grabbing hold in a panic at the last minute. They were in the shallow end of the pool, maybe about 1 1/2 -2 feet deep at the most.

Castaway creek at Typhoon lagoon is deeper than the lazy river at Blizzard beach by around 1 foot. I have no trouble swimming around TL but at BB my knees catch on the bottom of the lazy river. I would say 3ft and 4 ft deep for the two.

I would recommend not going too far in the wave pool! It can get really deep I just prefer to paddle around in the shallows!Have a great trip!

Typhoon Lagoon is Disneys oldest water park, open since 1989. Themed after a tropical paradise that survived a typhoon, guests at Typhoon Lagoon will find surf boards, fishing gear, and even a shipwreck in their travels around the park.

The park contains all of the types of activities you would expect to find at a waterpark: slides, pools, a lazy river. But Typhoon Lagoon doesnt stop there. It features one of the largest wave pools in the world so big you can even learn to surf on it!

There are no indoor dining restaurants at Blizzard Beach, but there are plenty of picnic tables around the park where you can dine. Most are located outside of Lottawatta Lodge, designed to look like a ski chalet, which is the main quick service restaurant. Lottawatta Lodge serves family-friendly burgers, flatbreads, and milkshakes, including a Salted Caramel Shake that adults can get spiked with bourbon.

Were combining these into one point to maintain some consistency in weight, but also because the lazy rivers are an easy tie. Theyre both good, but neither is standout.

How Deep Is The Water At Blizzard Beach

Youll also find lazy rivers at both water parks, Cross Country Creek at Blizzard Beach and Castaway Creek at Typhoon Lagoon. From what I could find, it looks like Blizzard Beachs lazy river is about 2-3 feet deep and Typhoon Lagoons about 3-4 feet deep.

Furthermore How deep are the pools at Blizzard Beach? Disneys Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and Disneys Blizzard Beach Water Park both have water slides, childrens play areas, pools, and family fun for all ages. The majority of the pools dont go any deeper than 5 feet.

Does Blizzard Beach have a lazy river? As far as formal attractions go, Blizzard Beach has slides, raft rides, kiddie play areas, a giant bobbing wave pool, and a lazy river.

Subsequently, Which is better Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach? The Typhoon Lagoon surf pool is head and shoulders better than the Blizzard Beach Melt Away Bay wave pool. Both have similar bobbing waves, but Typhoon Lagoon also has swells that are big enough for surfing . Point Typhoon Lagoon.

Getting To And Getting Into Blizzard Beach

            Disneys Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool

If you are staying at one of Disney Worlds on-property hotels , you could use Disneys transportation system to get to Blizzard Beach. Buses are the only mode of complimentary transportation that services the park. You could determine how to get from your point of origin to Blizzard Beach by using the My Disney Experience mobile app.

You could also use your own car and park in the lot. Unlike the theme parks, parking is free for all guests at Blizzard Beach. Another way to get there from within Disney World would be to use the Minnie Van service, a personal ride service that works with the Lyft app.

Youll need a separate pass to get into Blizzard Beach. In 2019, a 1-day ticket for guests age 10+ costs $69 or $64 depending on whether you purchase a ticket with blockout dates . You could also add Blizzard Beach admission to your theme park ticket package by opting for the add-on, Park Hopper Plus. Be careful, however. The option may not make sense if you would be only be going to the water park once during your visit.

Both of Disney Worlds water parks operate on a seasonal schedule with a lengthy refurbishment period during colder weather. Weather permitting, every day of the year has at least one park open, and both are open from March through October.

In 2022, Typhoon Lagoon will reopen on January 2, 2022. If the water parks resume a normal schedule in 2022, we expect it will close around October / November for refurbishment.

            Feature Mountains And Dry Attractions

Were combining these into one item because the dry attractions essentially are the mountains. Typhoon Lagoons feature mountain is Mount Mayday, with the Miss Tilly boat sitting atop, letting off steam every few minutes with a geyser display.

Blizzard Beachs feature mountain is Mount Gushmore, which is topped by the Summit Plummet ride, adding 30 feet to the mountain. Mount Mayday is 95 feet tall. Mount Gushmore is 90 feet, but 120 feet when you include Summit Plummet.

From the point of being a park icon, we think Mount Mayday does a much better job. Its better centered in the park, has a distinct mountain look, and has Miss Tilly. By contrast, Mount Gushmore sort of looks out of place to us. Most of what we see is the Summit Plummet structure, whichif were being harshsort of looks like what happens when you build a new tall ride in a park. Maybe its just not to our taste, though.

Now, each mountainand the paths up and around itessentially serves as the dry attraction at the park, though Blizzard Beachs Chairlift is unique. The Chairlift takes you from near the park entrance up to the top of the Green Slopes in about four minutes.

Typhoon Lagoon lists Mountain Trail as an attraction. Were fine calling it that, because we absolutely love these walking paths and exploration areas, but then to be fair we need to mention that you can take a wonderful walk up and down Blizzard Beachs Mount Gushmore as well, its just not a listed attraction .

How Deep Is Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool – Big Waves!

In terms of the deepest water, at Typhoon Lagoon Shark Reef is around 12-feet deep, and while I dont think the Surf Pool is quite that deep, its waves can be 6-feet high, so its best for strong swimmers. Blizzard Beach also has a second play area for kids, Ski Patrol Training Camp, with 8-foot deep waters.

            Crowds At Typhoon Lagoon

We remind you first that we cant predict the future of crowds. Moreso than the theme parks, crowds at the water parks are very weather-dependent. If the most beautiful day of a December week occurs on a Saturday, your crowds might be higher than anticipated.

If youre looking for overall predictions of Disney World crowds, we have a post dedicated to Disney World crowd calendars. Crowds arent really something you need to plan around, except that you should just always plan to arrive at open to maximize your chance at getting a seat in the shade and getting your first trip on the rides done as quickly as possible.

Generally, crowds are worst from April through July. Waits of 15+ minutes happen during this period. Waits of 30+ minutes can happen, but are rare. The bigger problem with crowds is that they take all the best seats.

In any case, this isnt like one of the main four theme parks. If you arrive early, youll have an easy time getting on every ride. If you arrive midday, you may need to wait a few minutes for the popular rides, but youll still get everything done.

Off-season crowds, particularly on cool days, are non-existent. On a recent visit in January, we were done with all the slides by 11AM following a 10AM open. Around 1PM, Cast Members told us there were only 300 people in the park.
