How do you know when its time for catch basin cleaning?

Its best to schedule cleaning during certain times of the year when the basins storage area for debris is likely to be at capacity. Typically, its when the leaves have fallen off the trees.

We also recommend cleaning during the rainy season or after the snow has melted in the spring. Its when the basin has to contend with a heavier flow and more frequent runoff water.

You can also check the depth of the accumulated debris by inserting a long stick between the grate openings. The EPA recommends cleaning if the solid occupies at least one-third of the basin volume below the outlet pipe.

Step 2: Protect any metal fixtures in the pool from oxidation or discoloration by applying petroleum jelly on them.

Step 3: Add the acid. Calculating a precise acid dosage depends on the pH and size of your pool. If your pool has a pH reading of 7.6, for example, and an average-sized 15,000-gallon pool, you should add 1 ¼ oz of acid. For a more clearer idea of how much acid to add, refer to the table below:

Hey, pool owners. In this video, were going to show you how to drain and clean your swimming pool. In a previous video, we showed you how to clean a green pool by bringing the chlorine up to shock level and continuously cleaning the filter until all the algae was removed.

In this video, we will drain all the water from the pool, do a chlorine wash on the walls, refill and balance the water chemistry. Lets go ahead and get started.

A couple of things to consider before draining your pool: how high is your water table and where to drain those thousands of gallons. First, do not drain your pool after a significant rainfall as the water table may be too high. What that means is, if you have a shell of a pool sitting empty and the water table is high underneath it, it could potentially pop the shell out of the ground. Weve seen that happen in Florida from time to time.

When draining your pool, you want to make sure you are diverting the water as far away from the pool basin as you can. Do not drain the water directly next to your pool because that 20,000 gallons of drained water may seep underneath the pool causing erosion or soil shifting problems

The Purpose Of A Pool Deck Drain

This installation fits into your decks flooring. Think of it as a specially crafted channel used to siphon off water drippings from those going in and out of the pool. It can also take in splashes and rainwater. A drain system is often in flooring that does not have good drainage. For example, concrete or tile decks and patios often have this system ensconced underneath.

Typically, a drain system is not installed on a wooden pool deck. However, those who opt to have the wooden slats come close together for aesthetic purposes can opt to have this installed, too. All it takes is the help of a professional plumbing company to get the job done.;In general, having a pool deck is highly beneficial even for those with natural drainage nearby.

You will find that pool drains come shaped like a rectangle. Several slats of these surround the perimeter of your pool. Most of the time, the drain installation angles to a certain degree. It is specifically recessed to allow gravity to work and assure good water flow. So, this means your water will naturally go down the drain channel instead of staying stagnant and collecting on the decks surface.

Draining the pool is actually one of the steps of regular maintenance that you have to keep in mind. But, were not talking about weekly, monthly, or even yearly maintenance here. As you may have known, draining a pool takes a lot of elbow grease, and its not really that necessary to empty your swimming pool, except for these factors:

Deep-Cleaning the Pool

Vacuuming is actually a deep-clean kind of maintenance, and you can do it in the pool full of water. But overtimes, you will notice the calcium buildup and stains around your pool surface. They will eventually damage the tiles and equipment of your pool. To clean them up, you have to drain the pool then brush them or you can use acid to remove them.

Repairing the Pool

Wear and tear will eventually happen, even if you have used expensive materials to build your pool. You may find some chips and cracks that you have to repair as soon as possible. The other case is the paint of the pools surface starts fading which makes it look less attractive. Of course, the repairing job should be done in an empty pool.

Changing the Water

Even with regular maintenance, eventually, you will need to change your pool water. The TDS of your pool water will eventually disrupt the balance of the chemicals that you will no longer be able to fix. Commonly, you need to change the water completely every 5 years.

Reasons To Drain Your Pool

Poor water quality, due to an overabundance of Total Dissolved Solids or high levels of Cyanuric Acid, is the most common reason for needing to drain a pool.

Even with proper and regular pool maintenance, it’s often necessary to drain your pool completely or partially every 3-5 years.

Draining your pool often isn’t necessary, especially if you’re following a proper and regular maintenance program. There are a few reasons, however, that would lead to needing to completely or partially empty your pool.

The most common reason for needing to drain your pool is an overabundance of Total Dissolved Solids . Over time, TDS slowly increase in your pool water, and once you reach about 2500 ppm, you start to lose the ability to balance the water. Your first response is likely to add more chemicals, but that will not solve the problem. Depending on the quality of your fill water and the quality of chemicals you typically add, you should expect to empty your pool every 3 to 5 years due to TDS.

Another reason for draining or partially draining is high Cyanuric Acid levels. CyA builds up in the water and cannot be removed by the addition of chemicals, so the most economical way to reduce CyA is to partially empty the pool and add fresh water, which dilutes the remaining CyA in the water.

You might also need to empty your pool to do certain types of repair work or to resurface and repaint.

Most times after draining, you will notice that the dirt starts to come off almost immediately. But sometimes, it doesnt because the stains may be tougher and may therefore take longer time to wash off. Now clean stain again with the solution if the stain does not come off at once.

5. Once the stains on the pool liner begins to come off, you should simply use a brush to scrub off that area completely to get rid of the dirt. But you need to remember not to apply much pressure and use a pool brush for scrubbing. This is because, using a strong or hard brush can damage the pool liner and might even perforate the pool liner thereby creating holes in it.

6. After that is done, use a clean towel and wipe the pool liner just to ensure that it is completely dry and clean. You can also use paper towels in place of actual hand towels. Then ensure that there is no trace of bleach left on the liner.

7. Then put back the pool liner; for this last phase, you have to follow the instructions of your manufacturer for the re-installment of the liner in the pool. Once it is properly placed, you can now refill the pool with water. Your pool is then, ready for use!

Screw The Garden Hose

You must screw a 1/2-inch hose to your outdoor water line. Ascertain that everything is tight, so nothing leaks from the faucet. Take out any nozzle attachments on the end of the house if there are any. Then you can turn on the water using only half the pressure flow.
