Above Ground Pool Buried In The Ground

How To Install An Above Ground Pool

There are a few brands of above ground pools that can be complete recessed like an inground pool. One of my most inexpensive inground pool packages utilizes the Aquasort 52.

You can put any pool inground if the pool wall is strong enough. If you are going entirely inground, you will need an inground skimmer and an inground pool pump. Above ground pumps are not self-priming.

Installing A Pool With A Sand Base Foam Cove And Liner Floor Pad

Step 1

Using fine sand , lay a 3 thick bed of sand across the entire inside of the pool this will form your base.

Step 2

After installing the 3 sand base, lay the liner floor pad on top. Please note your liner floor pad is pre-cut to fit your pools exact dimensions.

Step 3

Attach the pool cove directly on top of the liner floor pad by removing the adhesive backing and sticking it to the metal pool wall .

Step 4

This is the completed above ground pool liner installation. The vinyl pool liner should be completely supported by the pool base to avoid any stress or damage to it or the metal pool wall.

Winter Pool Cover Tip #: Leaf It Alone

Leaves on the pool cover can get real messy, real fast. Trying to remove leaves and sticks with a skimmer net or pool brush is not very effective. Instead use a Pool Leaf Rake to scoop it off much more effective, but not easy, definitely not fun, and sharp sticks could damage a pool cover.

If your pool has large trees within 50 ft. take a look at our Leaf Nets for above ground pools. Place this over your pool cover when closing, and remove after all leaves have fallen. Two people can remove every leaf in seconds, and easily carry it away. Thats Fun! Super durable carbonized mesh can also be used spring and fall, to keep an open pool clean.

Risk Of Installing Directly On Grass

Above Ground Swimming Pool Setup

You can easily install your above ground pool on top of the grass, but if you are not careful it might lead to disappointing outcomes.

After choosing the location and ensuring that the surface is level and even enough, you will first need to:

  • Give it a cut with your lawnmower.
  • Remove any problematic debris and stones.
  • Use your leaf rake and your yard brush to clear up the chosen area.
  • Place a long-lasting groundsheet on top of the grass and install your pool.

Note the following: The grass, subdued by the weight of your above ground pool, will dry and die away. Hence, you will need to resow the empty patch, after preparing the soil, if you remove your pool in the future.

Excavation & Site Work Fees For Above

Before you can build an above-ground pool you need an area that is within 2 inches of grade north south east and west, and primarily free of sod. Sod and excavated material are usually left someplace on your property.

Most above-ground pool builders use a small skid steer to remove the lawn and then level the area where they are placing the swimming pool.

Minimum above-ground pool excavation service usually cost $180.00 if your site is within 6 inches of grade Difficult digs with lots of rocks will cost more. Below you can get a good idea of prices associated with this work.

Associated Fees

  • Small Pool Excavation Within 6 Inches Of Grade $180.00
  • Small Pool Excavation Within 6-12 inches of Grade $280.00
  • Large Pool Excavation Within 6 Inches $180.00 $280.00
  • Large Pool Excavation Within 6-12 Inches $280.00 $380.00
  • Semi-Inground Installation Cost 12 36 Inches $600.00 $1400.00
  • Removing Excavated Material By Truck $400.00 $1200.00
  • Backfilling $300.00 $500
  • Clearing Land And Leveling with Skid-Steer $300.00/Per Hour or Half Day Rate $650.00

Digs that are slightly tougher than usual will cost a minimum of an additional $100.00. Most machines bill out at $160.00 an hour. Larger swimming pools naturally take longer and tough digging will cost more.

Why You Need To Know How To Winterize An Above Ground Pool

If youre fortunate enough to live somewhere with mild winters, you might not have considered what a pool needs to weather a frigid off season, and you might not close it at all. But if you live in a climate where winter comes to call with frost, snow, and deep cold, winterizing your poolpreparing it for and protecting it against winters ravagesis essential to keeping your pool in good working order.

During the sunny days of summer, your pool is wide open and a tempting target for insects, leaves, branches, and the occasional lost critter. Thats no big deal during swim season, because youre performing regular maintenance.

But in the winter, your pool is unused, and its not so rewarding to grab a skimmer and head out in the blizzard to hunt for debris.

If you leave your pool uncovered, youll have serious work ahead of you come spring. In addition to having to clean out your pool, youll need to rebalance the water, and maybe even deal with freeze damage.

Winterizing your pool minimizes your risk of contamination and cold damage to sensitive components. Youll save time, money, and frustration. Really, what more incentive do you need?

Test And Tweak Your Water For Winter

Open or closed, knowing whats up with your water chemistry is essential to keeping your pool in tip-top condition. Take a few minutes to test your pool water before you begin closing.

You can test the water yourself with test strips or a water testing kit for a little more accuracy. If you want the most accurate results possible, you can also take a water sample to your local pool store and have them test it for you.

Your goal is a pH between 7.4 and 7.6, and alkalinity between 100 parts per million and 150 ppm, with 125 ppm being ideal. Also make sure the calcium hardness is between 175 ppm to 225 ppm, and that the chlorine is between 1 ppm and 3 ppm. If you use a different sanitizer, just make sure its at the proper level for whatever youre using. Since you wont be adjusting the water balance during the off season, its better to be on the high side of these ranges when you close your pool because theyll naturally decrease over time.

How to Install a Round Above Ground Pool

Installing an above ground pool is an easy weekend project for 2-3 people. Why pay some company more than the cost of the pool to install your aboveground pool? Above Ground Pool Liner Price

Above ground pool liners will range in pricing depending on their thickness and how they attach to the pool wall. Common liner thicknesses are 18 – 25 mil, and the liner will either overlap the pool wall or will attach to the top track of the pool .

Pricing for the pool liner ranges from $100 – $1,000 depending on thickness, type , and the size of your pool. Entry level liners will be a plain blue overlap style. Next will be printed bottom overlap liner, and then a full print overlap liner. Finally, you have beaded liners which fluctuate in price simply based on their thickness, as they come in full print options only.

Installing Your Own Pool: The Budget

Yep, installing your own above-ground pool costs more than the sticker price once you add in the expense of preparing a home for it. The happy people pictured on the box assembling it with ease are models, too. Depending on which kind you buy, your experience will probably take longer and involve more frustration.

Even so, once you make peace with these facts of life, its really worth it.

Even at double the price you see on the box, a decently sized above-ground pool works out much cheaper than a permanent installation, never mind frequent trips to the local water park for your kids and their friends. It basically starts to pay for itself as soon as its standing.

Use A Winter Closing Kit

If youre not in the mood to break out your lab coat and beakers, grab a winterizing chemical kit for your above ground pool. Follow the directions on the label, and youll be good to go.

Note: Some winter chemical kits dont require you to run the filter when you add them. Double-check the directions and verify which type of kit you have. You might be able to skip a few steps when finishing your close.

Zero In On Calcium Hardness

Best Rectangular Above Ground Pools 2021: Reviews & Buying ...

A frozen pool might be the ultimate in hard water, but its calcium hardness were worried about. Hard water deposits calcium in your pool and plumbing, forming an unsightly, crusty build-up over time.

Conversely, if your water is too soft, it will try to draw the calcium it needs from inside the pool, which can damage tiled pools in the process by feasting on the plaster and grout. Too-soft water can also corrode metal.

Plaster loss might not be a concern for above ground pools with vinyl liners, but avoiding metal damage definitely is.

If your waters too hard, you can purchase chemicals to lower the hardness, or just dilute your pool water with fresh water that isnt hard. Water too soft? You can boost the level by adding a calcium hardness increaser or simple calcium chloride.

The ideal calcium hardness range is 175 ppm to 225 ppm, or 200 ppm to 275 ppm if you have a concrete or plaster pool.

Fill With Water And Find Your Bravest Friend

You cannow go ahead and fill the pool. You will need to give it a chlorine shock as it most likely be very green. Make sure the pump is running so that it circulates the water.

But first, you need to find your bravest friend. That could be you or even maybe your kids. But that person can claim the title of being the bravest by jumping into the pool as the first ever! If you took your water from a quarry, that water will be freezing cold. So claim that title and let that be the first of many swims.

Note: Don’t worry, you will see the temperature climb fast in the summer. You can always add a heater.

Attach Stabilizer Rails And Top Plates

Once the liner has been installed, begin working out all wrinkles from the sides of the pool.

The video explains how to attach the stabilizer rails and top plates to the top of the pool wall. The stabilizer rails simply slide into each other all the way around the pool, reinforcing its circular shape. The top plates are secured onto each upright with screws. You can now remove each landscaping stake, if used.

Quick Tip: Use a leveler to make sure the uprights are completely perpendicular to the ground. This will ensure maximum stability of your pool.

Use A Wood Burning Pool Heater

Bestway Fast Set Above Ground Swimming Pool Set Up Video

Yes, thats right, a wood burning pool heater. They exist, and theyre pretty cool.

While most wood pool heaters are DIY or custom built, there are a few manufacturers. The folks at Wood Stove Pools offer a pretty diverse selection.

The heaters work exactly how you would think, by burning wood and transferring that heat to your pool water with the help of your pump. And based on customer reviews, they do the job well.

Of course, its important to consider how much wood youll need to burn, and how often, to keep your pool adequately heated. And this all depends on the size of your pool and time of year.

Bottom line: when it comes to cost-effectiveness, wood burning pool heaters are behind heat pumps and solar heaters.

This is why most wood burning pool heaters are better suited for spas, small pools, and seasonal use.

Pros of Wood Burning Pool Heaters

  • Rustic and aesthetically pleasing

Cons of Wood Burning Pool Heaters

  • The cost of constantly burning wood is expensive
  • Not eco-friendly
  • Doesnt maintain water temperature like gasor heat pump pool heaters

I live in New Jersey, which has the second-largest number of COVID-19 cases in the nation. I also have three young children who are used to spending the summer at camp — partly for the sake of their own entertainment, but also so I can do my job without interruption.

While summer camp has yet to be officially called off in my neck of the woods, it’s unlikely that these facilities will find a way to open safely in light of the ongoing health crisis. When I came to this realization a few weeks ago, I did what a lot of fellow parents in my situation have started doing — I rushed to order an above-ground pool. That pool, I figured, could provide some entertainment for my otherwise cooped-up kids, and it would also be a relatively low-cost investment.

Case in point: You can buy an above-ground pool for $300 to $1,500, depending on the size and quality at hand. Given that full-time camp where I live costs close to $4,000 per child, even a higher-end above-ground pool would constitute a bargain.

Ensure The Ground Is Level And Prepare It For Construction

Part of proper pool planning includes choosing the area for your pool and obtaining the permits to install your pool. Once that has been completed the next step is to ensure the ground is level. This is a critical step to ensure your pool is structurally sound and safe.

To make sure your ground is level you can either:

  • Rent a transit from your local hardware store or equipment rental outlet.
  • Use a long, straight board with a carpenters level on top of it to measure the levelness of the area.
  • The entire area should be within 1 inch of being perfectly level.
  • If the ground is not level dig down any high areas to prevent the pool from settling over time.
  • Once the ground is level you need to take measurements before starting construction:

Find the center point . Use an existing object and measure the area and mark where the edges of the pool will go. Measure half the width of the pool from the marked edges. This is your center point. Mark the center.

Use a soft measuring tape to measure around the perimeter of the pool. Measure the outline of your pool using the radius mentioned above so you have a guideline for construction. Add one foot to the measurement and then mark the ground around your center point, following the pool shape and measurements given in the instructions.Use stakes to mark the ground.

When To Winterize Your Above Ground Pool

Putting up the walls of an above ground pool ⢠The ...

Depending on where you live, your closing times will vary. But as a rule, if temperatures typically drop, and stay, below 65°F during the off season, wait until the temperature falls below that point to close.

Why? Algae, like orchids or William Faulkner novels, need heat to thrive, and cold temps help keep your water clear of infestation. Plus, leaving your pool open until the mercury drops gives you plenty of time to clean, test, and balance your pool before closing.

If you live in an area where the temperatures occasionally rise above 65°F for a few days during the winter, you can take advantage of the warm spell to test and balance the water chemistry. These tweaks will help you keep your water clean and clear until spring returns.
