Grab a normal-sized 5 Gallon bucket and place it on the second step of your pool. Fill the bucket with water to match your pools water level. Use a marker or duct tape to mark the level inside of the bucket. Turn off the circulation. Wait a few days, then mark the new level in the bucket and pool or spa. Both the water in the bucket and the water in your pool should evaporate equally. If the pool level is more significantly more, you may have a leak. If the water levels evaporate at the same rate, then it is probably not a leak.

But if you routinely need to add more than two inches of water to your pool per week, you may have a leak. Uh oh, right? Not so fast. Before you call the local pool tech, give your pool a once-over and determine whether you can’t fix it yourself.
Test #2the Liner Test
- 1Perform a bucket test to get baseline information on how fast you’re losing water in your pool.
- 2Turn the pool equipment off completely and leave it off for the remainder of the test.
- 3Remove the pool return jets and install the winter plugs. Remove the skimmer basket and install the gizzmo and/or winterizing plug/plugs in the hole/holes in the skimmer. This step is to isolate all water connections from the pool to the equipment and lines.
- 4Complete a second bucket test. If the water level in the pool drops at the same rate as the baseline bucket test, then the water loss is from the pool. The leak could be caused by a small nick or tear in the liner, or one of the seals around a return, a light or the skimmer may have failed. If the water loss in the pool is less than the baseline bucket test, then the issue is in the lines or equipment, and you should perform test #3.

How To Replace Pool Jets
Pool return jet replacement is the most effective solution. This procedure requires purchasing new swimming pool return fittings.
If its an old swimming facility, you may consider changing the jets once and for all. A two-pack of five replacement jets will do for this.
So, Ill quickly show you how to remove your old fixtures and put in the new ones.
You will have to use an adjustable wrench a large one, so you can grab it around the neck. You dont have to apply too much pressure because you may crack the actual housing.
You just need to apply enough pressure to where you can leverage it and kind of wiggle it away from the pool. And thats all there is to it.
When it comes to installing the new one, you just hand tighten everything and try to seat it in there flush.
And then you will remove the eyeball and the retaining clamp so that you can use the back of your adjustable wrench and tap on the back of it to push it in further.
The handles on the adjustable wrench are rubberized so it prevents you from cracking it with the other side of the wrench.
After the main housing is situated, all you have to do now is get out your eyeball and your retaining eyeball clamp and tighten it down to where its nice and snug.
If you tighten it down too tight, then you cant adjust the eyeball. I like to have my eyeballs on my outlets pointing downward and straight. This is because it makes the water move around in the pool and everything will be leading back to the pool skimmer.
How To Test For A Leak In Your Inground Pool Piping
A pressure testing rig or stick is used to test individual lines, to see that they hold pressure. Experts will also introduce air into the pipe and listen for air escaping with high-tech headphones and a stethoscope of sorts. By doing this, professional leak detection companies can literally draw an X marking where to dig, whether it be in the yard or on your pools decking.
