Several Omaha Area Pools Open With New Hours Rates

Several Omaha area pools including the University of Nebraska at Omahas pool are open for summer swim play.
UNOs HYPER pool briefly closed in May for annual maintenance work but reopened Monday. Open swim hours are 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is free for students and campus recreational members. Otherwise, for a $7 daily entry fee you can gain access.
Many Omaha city pools are now open and have extended Friday hours. Typically, most pools close at 5 p.m., but depending on the pool will stay open until 8 p.m. Admission is $3 for children and $5 for adults. The following pools have new reduced rates: Camelot, Cryer, Hanscom, Hitchcock, Karen, Lee Valley, Miller and Spring Lake. At those pools, children pay $1 and adults get in for $2.
Elmwood Leisure Pool and Zorinsky Aquatic Center will open Saturday later than planned due to maintenance work.

Florida Scales Back Everglades Sugar Land Deal
EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK, FL – AUGUST 05: An alligator floats in a pond in the Florida Everglades after the South Florida Water Management District announced it may reduce the size of the deal it had announced earlier in the year with U.S. Sugar on August 5, 2010 in the Everglades National Park, Florida. The original proposal, announced in 2008, was to buy all of the U.S. Sugar Corporations assets and use the land to replenish the Everglades, letting water from Lake Okeechobee run its natural route. The plan now because of state budget cut backs is to buy 26,800 acres and retain a 10-year option to buy the rest of the land.
Police Investigating After Teen Pulled From Bottom Of Omaha Pool

Omaha Police are investigating after an 18-year-old male was pulled from the bottom of Hitchcock Park swimming pool late Sunday night.
Police were called to the pool at at 11:22 p.m. The caller told 911 that his friend was at the bottom of the pool, but stopped answering additional questions from the dispatcher, police said. When officers arrived, several teenagers were inside the pool area, which is closed and not open to the public until June 6.
Rescue workers had to cut through a chain and padlock on the north gate in order to get to the pool area. The teen was pulled from the pool and taken to Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition. His name and current condition were not being released as of Monday afternoon.

Jordan Nolan wasn’t much of a card player during his NHL days.
While his teammates were saddling up to the poker table at 10,000 feet, the two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Los Angeles Kings was popping on his headphones and flipping on a movie. When his feet were on the ground, they’d often take him to the theater or a movie set.
Now, Nolan is on the other end of the screen.
Along with his older brother Brandon Nolan and Terry Ryan , Jordan Nolan will be lacing up his skates as part of the fictional Sudbury Bulldogs in “Shoresy,” a new Hulu television series hitting the United States on Friday .
The show is a spinoff of the popular Hulu series “Letterkenny,” an irreverent, farcical, and bawdy series that introduces Jared Keeso’s portrayal, which he reprises as the title character in “Shoresy.” In the mold of its predecessor, the layers are peeled back on the tongue-twisting, foul-mouthed, Grade-A chirper after he joins a fourth-place Senior AAA team and is determined to never lose again.
To aid him on his quest, Shoresy enlists the services of a ragtag group depicted by a number of guys with pro hockey experience. Brandon and Jordan Nolan play two of three characters on the show named Jim. “It’s just crazy I was just, like, this can’t be real. Like, I’m a hockey player, I’m not an actor. I’m like, ‘what the heck would they want us for?'” Brandon Nolan told NHL.com. ” just honored to be a part of it.”

Omaha Closing Its Outdoor Public Pools Early Friday
OMAHA, Neb. – As the temperatures rise and head for a hot stretch, the City of Omaha announced Friday morning that it would close all its outdoor public pools early for a staff event.
While the outdoors will close at 5 p.m. Friday, the citys indoor pools will remain open:
- Montclair, located at 2304 S. 135th Ave.
The Omaha Parks and Recreation Department said Fridays early closings would allow the city to hold its annual lifeguard appreciation event.
The citys website also noted that the Hitchcock Park pool, located at 5025 S. 45th St., would be closed Saturday for a swim meet and that all the outdoor pools will close for the season on either Aug. 1 or Aug. 8.
All City of Omaha Pools will close at 5:00pm today, July 23rd, for our Annual Lifeguard Appreciation. We appreciate your understanding. Stay cool and have a great weekend!
