The Pandemic Prompted Officials To Close Outdoor Pools Last Year

Jack Carter Pool

A seasonal milestone will take place in Plano this year: the citys outdoor pools will be open this summer in addition to indoor pools.

Last summer, the pandemic shuttered all of the citys outdoor pools. The decision to close the pools was made partly due to concerns about social distancing. But this year, outdoor pools will be open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, the city stated in an email.

Due to staffing availability, pool hours may vary. This year the city has found it challenging to find enough staff for its summer recreation programs.

The citys pools are located at:

  • Carpenter Park Recreation Center
  • Jack Carter Pool
  • Oak Point Recreation Center
  • Plano Aquatic Center
  • Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center

Oak Point Recreation Centers outdoor pool will be closed for renovations this summer. The $10 million renovation project includes a dual entry wave pool, splash pad, elevated play structure, family leisure pool, shade structures, rental cabanas and a concessions area. The work is expected to be completed by spring 2022. Voters approved the work under a 2017 bond.

Pool admission is included with a Plano Recreation Center membership. Non-members and guests can pay a daily admission fee at each pool. The most up-to-date information about hours and procedures will be available at planoparks.org.

Alaska: Tok Lions Club

City: Tok

While it might be a bit of a drive for most Alaskans, the pool at the Tok Lions Club may be worth the haul, considering it’s said to be the state’s only heated outdoor swimming pool that’s open to the public. And while it may not be nearly as big or offer as many amenities as others on this list, admission is free. The pool is open Monday through Saturday. Keep in mind, however, the pool can only accommodate around 20 people at a time. The club offers swimming lessons, along with other educational opportunities for kids.

Don’t Be Left Feeling Irrelevant Because

  • You’re Fading into the Background
  • You’re Missing Out on Opportunities
  • Your Style Feels Outdated

My style all started from a work evaluation. In the evaluation, my boss at the time said to me, Matt, youre really great at your job, BUT youve got a problem: you dress like youre straight out of college. I started wearing suits and ties instead of my usual khakis and polos, and not only did I change peoples perception of me, but I also started getting promotions. I now dress more professionally every day and enjoy wearing high-quality, fun accessories that leave an impression. The rest is history.

Thank you Cufflinks.com! You have no idea how grateful I am for how easy you have made this process. Yes, I will definitely always keep you in mind for orders like this. Your team has worked very hard to make sure everything is done correctly.

I am extremely pleased with our new PACAF cufflinks and tiebars. Im about to send them out for an international gift presentation later this month and know theyre going to be a big hit with our international partners. These gifts play a vital role in our strategic engagements within the AOR and Cufflinks.com has made every step of the way so easy. Couldnt be happier..

City Hopes To Reopen Pool By Summer 2016

Features at Tom Muehlenbeck Center show similar types of uses to those that will be featured in the redesigned Jack Carter Park pool, which is expected to open by next summer.

With funding approved by the Plano City Council on Monday, the Jack Carter pool is expected to reopen next year in a new location within the park and with a whole new set of features for residents of all ages.

Once considered to be an amenity that allowed Plano to be a place for residents to live, work and play, the pool at Jack Carter Park has been closed for nearly a year. But city staff and community members are working to revive the pool and other features of the park.

City officials approved funding for the first phase of a three-part partnership project with Turner Construction Company to renovate portions of the park, with the largest emphasis on the pool. While funding for future phases has yet to be approved, this weeks action signals that after months of meetings and designing, Jack Carter Pool will once again become a summer oasis for the community.

Theres a lot of history to this project, said Robin Reeves, the citys chief park planner, at Mondays meeting. From a staff perspective, we thought that this should be an outdoor, aquatic family center, something for all ages … something that we wanted to keep pace with a changing recreational expectation at pools.

The pool facility will be able to accommodate 1,000 patrons.

Know The Danger Of Drain Entrapments

Jack Carter Pool// Plano, TX

Drain entrapments are often the result of a swimmers hair, limbs, clothing, or jewelry getting tangled in a faulty drain. Never let your child play or swim near drains or suction outlets, especially in spas and shallow pools. Entrapment caused by powerful suction from a pool or spas drain can trap a child.

Ensure that public pools and spas have compliant drain covers. Do not use a pool or spa if there are flat, broken, or missing drain covers.

Childrens public wading pools, pools designed for young children, and in-ground spas that have flat drain grates and single main drain systems pose the greatest risk of entrapment.

Also be sure that life-saving equipment, such as life rings or reaching poles, are available for use.
