Do You Use Chlorine With A Sand Filter Pump

What Chemicals Do I Need to Close an INTEX POOL (EasySet Pool)? | Swim University

Change the Sand Filter About every seven years, you should change the sand in the filter. If you’re not using chlorine, you should do it more often, about every three to five years. Chemical cleaning of the sand should take place about once a year usually or twice a year if you use a biguanide sanitizer./ via

Choosing An Intex Swimming Pool

The Intex metal frame pools solve many of the problems seen in the Easy-Set pools. The metal frame pools contain no inflatable parts to puncture. The liner, however, may be punctured by sharp objects: it is wise to lay a ground cloth prior to setting up a metal-frame pool. The diameter stated on the Intex packaging is less deceptive, because the walls of the metal frame pools are vertical: the distance across the pool is the same at the top of the pool and the bottom of the pool. The metal frame pools will hold more water than an Easy-Set pool of the same depth: the Easy-Set pools may only be filled to 80% of capacity, but the metal frame pools may be filled to 90% of capacity.

The Intex metal-frame pool options come in sizes ranging from 10′ across x 30″ deep to a whopping 24′ across by 52″ deep. An “Ultra Frame” pool style is also available and boasts a stronger liner and an easier assembly method .

Intex Pool Care: 7 Tips

  • Keep a weekly maintenance schedule and try not to miss it. This should include balancing the water chemistry, removing debris, and vacuuming out the bottom.
  • Cover your Intex pool when its not being used. A pool cover can go a long way toward keeping your water warm and clean.
  • Always use a garden hose filter when filling your pool. We touched on this earlier, but its worth mentioning again. It can keep you from having to use as many chemicals to keep things balanced.
  • Keep an eye out for dead algae. These blooms are sometimes too small to make it to the filter so they sink to the bottom. If youre not able to vacuum it all out, try a flocculant that will bind all the small particles together, making them easier to remove.
  • Even pools in warmer climates can get a little too cold to jump right into. Heating it the right way can make swimming a much more enjoyable experience. There are several ways to do this. One is using a solar cover or blanket that absorbs the suns rays and radiates warmth through the water. Another is to purchase a heat pump or pool heater for above ground pools. These can be solar, gas, or electric.
  • Run your pool pump for 10-12 hours a day every day that you can. This will keep the water circulating, distributing the chemicals, and filtering out the gunk.
  • Replace the filter at least once a year if you have a cartridge system. And clean it off every couple of months with a hose.

Tips To Keep Your Intex Pool Clean

If you have a swimming pool in the garden, you know that it must be constantly maintained to ensure that you can continue to enjoy beautiful clear and safe water. However, the importance of keeping the pool clean is often underestimated, and there is a lot involved in keeping an Intex pool in top condition.

To make this job perhaps a little easier, we have collected seven tips for you. From tips regarding pH value to automatic cleaning. However, not all tips will apply to every Intex swimming pool, large swimming pools require a slightly different regime than smaller swimming pools.

    What Is Intex Pool Care

What Pool Chemicals Do I Need For Closing An Intex Pool ...

Intex pools are essentially an all-in-one above ground pool, providing everything you need to get your new backyard pool up and running.

This includes the pool shell, pool pump, pool filter, hoses, and a few other accessories depending on the model.

When it comes to caring for an Intex pool, it doesnt differ much from a traditional pool. The main difference is that the majority of Intex pools are smaller and have a uniform depth, so theyll be easier to clean.

You may also find their competition , but when it comes to longevity and material quality, Intex is the king of specialized above ground pools.

Clean Up Debris And Check For Wear And Tear

Before you open your pool, take some time to survey the area around your pool. Trim overgrown trees and hedges. Sweep away nearby leaves. Check your for damage, wear, and tear and address any issues before you open your pool for the season. Be sure to clean and repair any deck furniture so that it is safe for use. You should also check pool equipment like safety rails, slides, rescue equipment, ladders, and diving boards.

How To Care For Your Intex Pool

Dont let the convenience or its potentially temporary installation fool you. Intex pools have all the same needs as the fanciest rooftop retreat or humblest suburban cement pond. Regular maintenance keeps Intex pools in prime condition.

Your new backyard oasis needs a pump, filter, and a few tools to keep it clean and running smoothly. A little homework might be required to master regular maintenance and the right mix of chemicals to keep the water clean and sanitary. You can also choose whether to clean and store your pool during the off season, or let it winter in place.

While Intex pools aren’t the same as permanent swimming pools, they still require similar chemical maintenance. This is why adding chemicals to your Intex swimming pool is so important. That said, the process itself is fairly simple. You’ll need a pool water test kit and a couple of startup chemicals.

Similarly, how much shock do you need for an above ground pool? Typically, experts recommend about 1 lb. of shock treatment for every 10,000 gallons of water in a pool.

Then, do I need to shock my above ground pool?

When this happens, you should use shock which is basically a concentrated chemical treatment . Shocking your above ground pool once a week will oxidize contaminants, freeing up the chlorine, and keeping your water crystal clear. Regular shock treatments will also kill resistant algae in the water.

Do I need chlorine for my Intex pool?

Intex Pool SanitizersIf you opted for the Intex Salt Chlorinator, you can make your own chlorine by adding Pool Salt to the water. 1.0 ppm is the absolute minimum, and for greater protection from algae, bacteria and cloudy water, I recommend that Intex pools have a chlorine level of 2 to 3 ppm.

    Inventory Your Pool Chemicals

INTEX POOL Chemistry 101 (Above Ground Pool) | Swim University

Youll want to have all of your chemicals ready to go before you start opening your pool. Check the expiration dates on all of your pool chemicals, and replace any that are past their prime. . You should also replace any chemicals that werent properly sealed before they were stored.

Chemicals Checklist: Everything You Need to Open Your Pool

Need to do a pre-opening pool chemical supply run? Heres what youll need to get the job done right:

    • A good test kit or test strips for checking your pools pH, calcium hardness, total alkalinity, and chlorine levels
    • Chlorine granules or tablets
    • Stain treatment

    Stabilizers And Balancing Chemicals

Other important swimming pool chemicals include Water Balancing Pool Chemicals. Chemical levels in your pool water are affected by many factors, including sunlight, rain, evaporation and the presence of oils. This means that the waters chemical levels are always changing, which affects the waters pH levels and total alkalinity.

Balancing chemicals such as pH Increaser and pH Reducer allow you to keep pH and alkalinity levels in the right range and help maintain healthy and clean water. Water balancing pool chemicals also help enhance the performance of your sanitizer reducing maintenance time and chemical use.

While bromine cannot be stabilized, or protected from the sun, chlorines life can be extended by using stabilizer, aka conditioner. Stabilizing pool chemicals provide protection for chlorine molecules, preventing them from becoming quickly destroyed by UV radiation from the sun. This allows your chlorine-based chemicals to last longer, which saves money, and prevents rapid depletion on warm summer days.

    Keep Pool Cleaned And Covered

The last step is to simply clean out any dirt and debris that has built up inside the pool. The filter pump should take care of most of this, but it wont get everything. Keeping dirt, leaves, and other debris out of the pool will allow the chlorine to do its job better, and last longer.

Keeping the pool covered will help the chlorine last longer as well. Chlorine can be eaten away or burnt up by the sun. Covering the pool when its not in use can extend how long your chlorine works, and reduce your maintenance time and costs.

How To Winterize An Intex Pool

If you have a metal frame pool, or if you have mild winters you feel the pool can tolerate, youll need to do some winterizing.

To do this, youll need to first clean it well by brushing and vacuuming, then test and balance the water chemistry.

Next, disconnect the filtration system from the pool and remove any objects, such as ladders or pool toys from the water.

Finally, cover it up with a good pool cover.

Also, be sure to clean and drain the pump, all the hoses, and the housing. And toss out the used cartridge if you are using a cartridge filter system.

Store all your equipment and accessories in a clean and dry place.

How Much Sand Do You Need For The Filter

What Chemicals do I Need for My Pool? Basic Overview

You need to buy the no. 20 silica sand media separately and then fill the sand filter yourself . Here are a few numbers mentioned by Intex sand filter pump owners:

    • 1200 and 2100 GPH sand filter: buying one bag of 50 lbs pool filter sand is probably sufficient.
    • 3000 GPH: you might need about 125 lbs.

    Check Your Calcium Hardness

When you hear people talk about hard or soft water, this is what theyre talking about. This level should be between 100 and 300 ppm.

Water thats too hard has a calcium hardness level thats too high. It can dry out your skin and leave calcium buildup on your equipment.

But if its too soft, it can feel slimy and make your skin feel itchy and irritated.

The regional water supply tends to dictate how hard or soft your pool water is. So if you already know your local water leans one way or the other, youll have a better idea of what chemicals to keep on hand.

To increase the calcium hardness, you can use a calcium increaser . But the only truly effective way to decrease it is to dilute the water.

Cyanuric Adjusting Chemicals For Pool Start Up

This is the next step in getting the chemicals in your pool set up. This one addresses something that isnt often tested in pool water, the cyanuric acid.

Most pools should have very little of this in them at start up. This builds up over time because of the chlorine added. The stabilizers are in the chemicals that you add to your pool water. These accumulate in your pool and affect the water.

This does take a while to build up, but testing for and correcting any of it found is important for a fully successful start up.

How Much Chlorine Do You Need For A Swimming Pool

Pool water chemistry essentially revolves around supporting chlorine to do its job. It is a crucial component in maintaining the condition of your pool as it destroys and prevents algae from forming. The recommended value for chlorine in a swimming pool is 1-3ppm

The alternative is a salt water system, or refilling the pool at regular intervals, which are both a lot more expensive than using chlorine. Its recommended to use chlorine in these larger inflatable pools because of RWIs, or recreational water illnesses.

    Intex Pools Vs Traditional Pools

Compared to inground or above ground models, Intex pools require less investment and zero construction. Options range from basic inflatables to steel-framed models you can convert to a permanent part of your yard. They often include a ground cover and debris cover.

Intex pools often include cartridge filters and pumps as well, which makes it easy to get swimming sooner. The filter pumps capacity varies with the pool size you choose. Intex pumps also have a built-in ground fault circuit interrupter that automatically shuts down the pump if any electrical current is exposed to water.

Water Quality In Your Intex Pool Overview

What Chemicals Do I Need for My Pool?

In order to enjoy your pool, the water in it must be clean. Nobody wants to swim in a pool thats infested with algae, slime and/or & other mysterious substances.

Maintaining good water quality can be a major source of headaches and frustration. Going to a pool store makes you think that you need an advanced degree in chemistry, and a car full of chemicals.

However, with just a little bit of knowledge, and good test equipment, you will find that keeping crystal clear water is actually easy and inexpensive. The job gets even easier if other equipment like Salt Water Chlorine Generators or automatic/robotic cleaners are incorporated.

Upgrade Your Intex Pool Filter Cartridge

The standard filter cartridge that comes with your Intex pool is perfectly functional. But you might see improved performance with an after-market filter cartridge.

These filters may have a longer functional life, with improved filtration materials that allow you to change your filter less frequently during the season due to wear and tear.

What Type Of Sand Is Used For The Filter

Number 20 grade silica sand is used. Its grain size ranges between 0.018 to 0.033 inches . Use sand grains with a uniformity coefficient of less than 1.75.

Glass media is less commonly used, but it might last up to 8 years before replacement. The best size range for glass particles is between 0.4 to 0.8 mm.

You probably know this, but do not put play area sand in the filter. Please use the recommended type of pool filter sand.

    Water Ph And Alkalinity

Pool water needs to stay balanced at all times. If its not in a neutral state, the water will become dangerous for swimmers, and pollutants will thrive.

The pH level should always measure between 7.4 and 7.6 on the pH scale, with 7.5 being ideal. Anything under 7.4 and the pool will become acidic, and anything over 7.6 will turn the water too alkaline .

Most acidic pools cause surface etching, but this isnt a problem with Intex due to their triple-ply polymer vinyl walls. However, acidic water can still damage the pool equipment and irritate swimmers eyes, nasal passages, and skin.

On the flipside, a highly-alkaline pool will have scaling and cloudy water issues. Similar to acidic pools, alkaline water also irritates swimmers eyes, nose, and causes itchy skin.

Total alkalinity is another level you need to keep an eye on. Its the total concentration of dissolved carbonates, bicarbonates, hydroxides and cyanurates in the pool water.

TA affects the pools pH level, and essentially acts as a buffer, protecting the pH level from wild fluctuations. If TA doesnt stay in this range, you will end up with an acidic or alkaline pool.

Youll need to keep total alkalinity between 80 and 120 ppm , and its important to be aware that this will drift upwards or downwards with your pH level as they strongly influence each other.
