There are two types of structures: concrete formwork and shotcrete concrete. The formwork structure must be built in two parts, first the floor and then the walls. With this, we leave a junction of the concrete of the soil with that of the walls, and thats where the water can go. The gunite structure is constructed in one piece and without any joints.
The concrete and thickness
It must be of quality and well prepared. It is important that all processes and materials are adequate for the best result. Ideally, it should be supplied by a company specialized in concrete. We built pools with shotcrete of selected aggregates and H-400.
Thicker more years of life. Pools with 10-15 cm thick structures have lasted between 10 and 20 years. Structures of 20-30 cm thick come lasting between 20 and 30 years and 35-50 cm thick they last between 35 and 45 years. From that time, they suffer small fissures that eventually become cracks. Up to sizes of 5m x 10m we use thicknesses of 25cm on the floor and 22cm on walls.
The iron grid
It must reinforce the concrete of the structure. We work in swimming pools up to sizes of 5m x 10m with a double electro-welded mesh of 8 mm over the entire surface, reinforcements with 10 mm bars at all corners and walls every 50 cm. With this, we get a very resistant skeleton. For larger pools. We must use other thicknesses and reinforcements.

Depending on where you live, the building codes in your city might require you to work with a professional contractor when installing a pool on your property. This isnt true for all cities, but it is an important thing to check when youre thinking about DIYing your pool.

Plumb And Wire The Pool
Lay down your plumbing pipes for your pools circulation system . Every pool is different, so be sure to follow your design and your concrete pool plans.

Concrete pool decks are generally used for in-ground pools or ones that are dug out of the ground and installed below ground level. They only need maintenance every so often, unlike wood decks. Building one for your in-ground pool can not only be rewarding but can a lot of fun with your pool and outdoor entertainment area.
Step 1 Measure Deck Area
Whether youre building a new concrete deck or covering your old one, you need to take measurements so you can determine how much concrete you need. Measure first the perimeter of the pool. This is your inside boundary.
Next, measure the outside perimeter youve decided upon when you had your pool installed in the first place.

Another common challenge with straight-wall pools is keeping those suckers straight. This requires constant monitoring while filling the pool and placing backfill.
As soon as you set the pool, run a string line from corner to corner and keep it spot on until the pool is full.
If the wall bows in or out, the pool will probably be fine, but you’ll have to do some digging to get it straight again.

Diy Concrete Swimming Pool
Building your own pool is not for everyone, but it can be done, with great results. When I got bids around $30,000 , the choice was to build it myself, or forget it.
For around $7000, and a lot of work, my son and I built a very solid 13′ x 22′ x5′ oval concrete pool off our deck.
We built it on flat ground , but it could also be built in a hole and backfilled.
Keeping the plumbing simple also cut costs.
Block pools can have problems because they lacks the steel needed.
We used lintel block to wrap rebar around the pool every 8 inches horizontally.
Stacking the blocks with cores lined up put a rebar vertically every 8 inches.
We cut the sides out of the base row of block to let rebar and concrete connect the wall and pool floor.
The result was a pool that could stay solid on the 3 ft. of rock backfill behind our retaining wall.
We plastered and waterproofed the pool ourselves with white surface bonding cement, and 2 years later hired a pro crew to do a finish coat of prettier blue cement plaster.
