How Much Baking Soda Do I Add To My Pool
As a rule of thumb, use 1.5 pounds of baking soda per 10,000 gallons of pool water. This should raise the alkalinity by about 10 parts per million . Or you can use the chart below.

Once you know your pools volume, and youve measured out the baking soda, dont add it all at once! If you adjust the alkalinity too much in either direction, it can affect the pH as well.
Pool Ph Will Not Increase
If it seems like you keep adding pH Increaser or Decreaser, but it only seems to last a day, or maybe seems to have no effect at all high Total Alkalinity levels over 120 ppm may be preventing you from making an effective adjustment. How To Lower Alkalinity In A Pool
If the alkalinity of the water is too high, i.e. more than 120 ppm, its an easy fix to lower the alkalinity of the water.
First, make sure the water pump is on and take a current pH measurement.;
Add one quart of muriatic acid or 2 pounds of dry acid at a time around the perimeter of the pool.
Let the acid mix in the water for about an hour, then test the water again. Maintain a water pH of about 7 and keep adding pool acid in small increments until the correct alkalinity level is reached.
Once the alkalinity level is correct, allow the pH to climb naturally by circulating the water.
Only add soda ash to raise the pH if the pH stops climbing after 1 week.
How To Total Alkalinity Back Down
Now that you know using something like soda ash to raise the pH can also bring up TA in a big way, you may need to lower it when retesting.
Muriatic acid is more commonly used due to its lower price. However, sodium bisulfate is a dry acid that is more safe for handling, as the former can cause major burns, and its fumes can induce respiratory distress if youre not careful.
Either one will work fine, it just depends on your budget and how comfortable you are working with acid.

How To Lower High Ph And Total Alkalinity
If both pH and TA levels are high in your pool, you will need to add;muriatic acid;slowly by slowly while testing your pH and TA levels so that you don’t get low levels.
1). Lowering TA Using Muriatic Acid: 0.8 qts of muriatic acid reduces TA by 10ppm in a 10,000 gallons pool.
2). Lowering pH Using Muriatic Acid: 1 qt of muriatic reduces your pH by around 10ppm in a 10,000 gallons pool.
