Ensure Pump And Filter Are Running
During the shock treatment, and especially after, it is important to keep your pump and filter on and running. This will ensure that the added chlorine is evenly distributed throughout the entire pool to get rid of bacteria and algae in the pool water. Once the shock treatment has been completed, keep the pump and filter running for a few hours to circulate the water. This will clean up the remnants of the shock and disperse any remaining cloudiness.;

Step 2 – Add Stain & Scale and Clarifier: Before you shock the pool, which can disrupt other pool start up chemicals, add a Stain & Scale chemical to prevent staining by keeping minerals and metals locked tightly in solution. Follow up with a good pool clarifier, following label dosage information, to help your filter remove small suspended particles.
Step 3 – Filter the Pool! Run the filter overnight or for 6-8 hours to distribute water balance chemicals, and then backwash or clean the filter as needed, and empty the pump and skimmer baskets. Run your filter 24/7 if possible, for the first few days after opening the pool from its winter slumber.
Before adding your pool opening chemicals, test the water again to be sure your adjustments hit the mark, and all water balance levels are correct, preferably on the lower end of the ranges.
Step 5 – Add Algaecide: The final product in our pool start up kits is the algaecide. Add your algaecide only after chlorine levels have dropped below 3 ppm, which is usually a few days after shocking the pool. High chlorine levels quickly deplete pool algaecides, or render them useless.

To know how many tablets to use, youll need to know your pools volume. If you dont already know how much water your pool holds, use this pool calculator to quickly and easily figure it out.
To use the right number of tablets, always round your pool volume up to the nearest unit of 5,000 gallons. For instance, your pool has a capacity of 20,000 gallons, you would add four chlorine tablets. But if your pool holds just 16,000 gallons, youd still use four, three-inch chlorine tablets. If you have lots of people swimming on a daily basis, you should test free chlorine and shock as required every single day and at least weekly when the pool is not very busy.

How To Use Liquid Chlorine For Your Pool
Liquid chlorine or sodium hypochlorite is 4 to 6 times stronger than a regular gallon of household bleach and is a hazardous material, so its important to be careful when using it.
If it happens to come in contact with your skin, rinse off thoroughly with a hose or in the shower. Always wear protective eyewear and rubber gloves.;

If you dont know how many gallons your swimming pool has, just use the basic formula that well give you. The formula for calculating a pool area in square feet or meters is the following:
- Length x width x depth x 7.5 = volume
By multiplying the length of the pool with width and depth gives the volume in cubic feet. Since each cubic foot has 7.5 gallons of water, multiply the cubic feet of the pool by 7.5 and you will get the volume of the pool in gallons.

How Do I Add Bleach To The Pool Water
Most pool stores do not suggest using simple chlorine as a bleaching agent. They want you to use their products for adding bleach to the water. Most pool specialty stores will sell slow dissolving tablets of chlorine that when combined with other ingredients, stabilize the chlorine, so it releases slower, thus making it last longer. Although this may seem like the easier solution, stabilizing bleach greatly reduces the effectiveness it has on killing the microbes that need to be removed from your pool.
The chemicals that are used in these tablets, such as dichlor, break down very slowly and difficultly and overall you cannot control how much of it is going into the water. Therefore, the new chlorine that is added via tablet will attack the dichlor and immediately be stabilized and will not attack the bacteria that you are trying to eliminate.
