Uneven Leveling Causes Damage To Your Liner
When your pool is on uneven ground, the liner is likely to have wrinkles in it. These wrinkles can be caused by ground that is:
- Full of rocks
- Too soft
As a result, the wrinkles will cause various things to become caught on the pool liner, weakening the liner until it rips.
For example, pool vacuums commonly rip liners with wrinkles in them as they pass over them time and time again.
Liners that have ripped can be patched with a vinyl liner patch, but the patch will not be successful in the long run. This is especially true if other wrinkles still exist in your pool, resulting in the need for more patches.
Ripped liners, even after they have been patched, will likely continually leak water over time. That is why it is best just to replace a liner that has been ripped or make sure it is wrinkle-free to prevent the ripping from occurring in the first place.
Tip : Pull Up Remaining Grass
There might be some left-over grass around the edges. And leaks can appear if you dont remove the excess grass/weeds.
Sometimes, to make things worse, youll come face to face with some quick growing grass breeds. If that happens use a weed-killer. Its better to use homemade herbicides to kill the weeds. Because they wont cause any harm to our environment.
But if youre up against blackberries or other stubborn weeds, youll need some extra firepower. In that case, fetch some powerful herbicides that can help you remove those weeds.

How Unlevel Can An Above Ground Pool Be
It can be incredibly tricky to level a pool, even for an excellent installer. Every pool in every place is different so it is a challenge to get them perfectly level. Most installers, despite their high level of knowledge and professional equipment they rarely get better than within an 8th of an inch level for a round pool and a ¼ of an inch on an oval pool.
Most instruction manuals for above grounds are useless. If they mention leveling procedures, they usually say to level the pool to within an inch. A pool being off by a full inch is fine and will not cause any major structural issues, but you may notice it is off level at its waterline.
Pools that are unlevel by more than an inch it is going to look slanted. If it is two inches off, you will obviously see the distinction from the outside of the pool. It can be hard to tell sometimes if the yard is not flat, but at two inches, the mind picks up the differentiation and will see that something is not right.
Two inches off usually will not cause any structural issues so you can live with it that way. Any more than two inches is unacceptable.
Intex pools that are three inches off or more will not last and no one should be swimming in one. Not only does it look very bad, once the uneven wall starts to create the outward pressure one side it will eventually push the pool out of shape more and more.
Easy Steps To Level The Ground For Your Easy Set Pool

What Happens If Above Ground Pool Is Not Level
If you install an above-ground pool on an uneven surface, the walls can collapse due to uneven pressure. The water will press with more force on one section of the pool than the others. A pool with an inflatable ring is more likely to fold under this increased pressure, but even a pool with solid side panels can fail.
Use A Rolling Tamper:
If you are wondering how to level ground for a pool without digging, making use of the rolling tamper may be an ideal option for you.

Lay Your Base Protector Down
Finally, you need to lay out your base layer. If you like, you can purchase a specialized pool pad, its usually a large foam or tarp base that goes under your above-ground pool as another layer of protection for the vinyl of your swimming pool.
The base layer serves not only to reduce the risk of a puncture in the liner but to better insulate and prevent heat loss from the water as it seeps into the cold ground.
At a minimum, Id recommend laying out a sheet of tarp over the ground, just in case.
Because if you happen to puncture your liner, it can be a nightmare even to find the hole to patch up once your pool is filled. Its a far smarter move to put adequate protection in place in these initial steps. Once your protector is in place, youre ready for the final step.

Unlevel Pool 6 Inches Off Lets Not Drain It
hugeymcbig said:I have a 14′ round pool intex ultra frame that has a deep end, almost 6 inches deeper at its lowest point. When I put up the pool I knew the ground was slightly off level but thought it to be more like one or two inches, not as much as it was. Its been up for a few days and i’m not sure what to do about it. I really really really don’t want to drain it, lets just say I have a problem with the principal of wasting the water. However, I want to understand what my options are other than to drain it. I’m ok with the fact that the frame might get twisted out of shape and I won’t be able to use it next year. I’m ok with the fact that it might look dumb. I just want to know if I can get away with it for the summer, or what I can possibly do to get away with it. I was thinking that my best bet would be to jack up the low side, slowly, and raise it by 2 to 3 inches. It’d still be a couple inches off but for some reason I think that’d be safe. I’ve been reading the forums and jamison04 is my hero – successfully-jacked-up-an-intex-summer-escapes-pool-t45938.html. I know this is the place to ask as you guys have a ton of experience, but i didn’t see many posts about pools actually collapsing or bursting. So, what do you think?

Drill The 24 Arm And Pin It To The Ground
Now its time to drill the 2×4 arm at the front. An important thing to remember- you need to choose the length of the arm according to your pool size.
A pool, 14 feet in diameter, needs an 8-10 feet arm as its length. Why? Well, theres no actual formula to this.
So, use this tip as a rule of thumb!
As well be placing the arm in the middle of the ground. Hence, well need the arm to be close to or half the size of the pools diameter. That way, itll be easier to spin the arm and level the ground.
If youve got your 10 feet long 2×4, start drilling it. You need to go down about 2 feet of the arm and drill a hole. Then grab your hammer and pin the arm with a tent stake/long spike. The arm needs to be pinned to the center of the ground in a way that we can spin it.

What Youll Need To Level The Ground
Leveling a particular area of your yard in order to install a pool isnt particularly tricky, but its a job made far easier with the right tools to hand.
Heres what youll need:
- Sod cutter or rototiller. Clearing the grass is one of the most back-breaking steps, and if you can use the right machinery to get the job done faster, my advice is to do it.
- Extended length of board and a level. As you lay the board flat on the planned pool site, itll become immediately apparent which particular areas need to be flattened out.
- Pick and a wide shovel. Removing any rocks from the site is critical to ensure no damage is done to your pool liner, and wide shovel will help you to dig out the bumps.
- Wide rake and a lawn roller. To smooth and level the sand on the site, you want a rake thats as wide as possible, then a lawn roller to compress the sand down flat.
Oh, and dont forget the desire to do a few hours of work preparing the site.
