How Is Your Heater Different

The heater is the most vulnerable component of any spa. The Sundance Heater employs a titanium coil that directly heats the water, increasing efficiency and reducing costs. Titanium prohibits heater corrosion and nearly eliminates failure. The Sentry Smart Heater carries a 5-year unconditional warranty.

What Should I Consider Before Buying

You may consider wet testing a spa before purchasing. This means getting into a spa with water in it. Many reputable spa dealers maintain filled demonstration models just for this purpose. Here is what you should look for: Verify that the seats provide comfortable support. You do not want to have to scoot down in the spa like you do in a bathtub. When sitting in any seat, the water should reach shoulder level. If it does not, you will not get full hydrotherapeutic value. Stay in the spa with the jets on for at least 15 minutes. At the end of that time you will know whether the seating and jet arrangements are comfortable.

Can Any Sundance Spa Operate On 120v Electrical Service

Most Sundance spas must be connected to 240V electrical service, but some offer the option of operating on either 120V or 240V. While connecting to 120V can be less involved, most customers prefer the benefits of the 240V spa, which include quicker heating time and better temperature maintenance during cold weather use. This is because the heater output is four times as great in a 240V spa versus a 120V spa. If you choose to connect your spa to 120V service, you must be certain that it is a dedicated circuit, not shared by any other appliance, and has amperage rating appropriate for the spa you select.

What About The Warranty

Here are a few simple rules to keep in mind: A product warranty is a performance and reliability agreement between you and the manufacturer. Avoid spa dealers who add prorated and deductible provisions. Make sure you read the manufacturers warranty before buying, and compare coverage with other spas you are considering.

Hot Tub heater needs replacing

Hi everyone! Any advice would be welcome, I’ve been calling electricians and HVAC places all over town to no avail. We have a wooden hot tub that sits recessed into the deck on the second floor, that reaches to the ground underneath. The heater, which is located underneath, below the deck, is broken. A spa-repair guy looked at it and said that there’s a big rats nest inside, wires all chewed up, etc. So that’s probably the end of that heater. We’d like to have another natural gas heater installed properly. Are there venting issues that we need to worry about? Since we have tiered pricing for electricity, we don’t want an electric heater since we couldn’t use it at night when the electricity price is sky-high. Maybe combine a solar heater with an electric heater? If anyone has experience with this, please feel free to contribute. Mice mama

A natural gas heater will run about $150-$200. You will have to have it properly vented. Could get quite costly. Solar thermal would not heat the tub enough. Solar photovoltaic would cost on the order of $20k and your roof would have to be the size of a tennis court. You might want to do the math on this one. A hot tub electrical heater will cost you about and costs about 30 a month. ANON

Steamy Secret / 30000 Dippers Have Gotten The Skinny On Berkeley Hot Tub

Birth of Hydromassage & Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs With Ken Jacuzzi

2000-02-03 04:00:00 PDT BERKELEY: — On a quiet residential street in Berkeley, down a narrow walkway, through a gate, behind a shingled house, past a few looming redwoods, there is a hot tub in which 30,000 people from around the globe have soaked.

For more than two decades, the man who built the hot tub has kept the quirky, semi-secret system running in his backyard — and those in the know have always been welcome to stop by for a skinny-dip.

“If I ever write my autobiography, it will open with, ‘I used to be a hippie,’ ” the man whom many simply know as the Hot Tub Guy said. A 55- year-old, soft-spoken, articulate man with long, graying hair, he perched on his front steps wearing jeans, moccasins and a flowered T-shirt.

The project took seed in the 1960s, when the owner — who did not want to be identified by name for obvious reasons — was a backpacking traveler who loved hot springs. He was disappointed when, in the early ’70s, the majority of nearby natural hot springs were shut down.

“The obvious solution,” he said, “was to build a hot spring.”

He had some construction experience, so with the help of a library book, the purchase of some redwood and the labor of some friends, the hot tub was built. It opened in the spring of 1975.

“I planned from Day One that it would be open,” he said. “It would be a natural hot spring in Berkeley.”

How Much Do Hot Tubs Cost

Youll probably spend more on your daily cup of coffee. Spa costs can differ based on climate, model, and usage, but typical monthly electrical costs are in the $10 to $20 range. Plus, when you buy a spa that uses quality materials and the latest technology, youll save on maintenance, energy costs, and the expense of replacing costly salt water hot tub systems in the long run.

The prices shown on this website reflect MSRP, but your local dealer offers different pricing, packages, and promotions based on bulk buys and often pass the savings on to you. Visit your Sundance® dealer for the most current deals.

Isn’t A Bigger Pump Going To Give Me A Better Massage

Many manufacturers talk about the horsepower of their pumps. Horsepower can be measured using a service factor or a true rating system. The first describes the initial thrust as the pump first engages, but immediately the pump output falls to a lower, continuous horsepower level. When a spa manufacturer claims they have a 6-hp pump, they are describing the initial thrust, not the horsepower the pump delivers as it runs.

Efficient plumbing, better jets and flow control are more important than horsepower. A lower horsepower pump in a more efficient spa will produce just as much jet power as a higher horsepower pump. And remember, you are looking for a comfortable but strong massage, and not looking for acceleration up a mountain road or a punishing hot water experience!
