An above-ground swimming pool provides an easy-access place to cool off in the hot summer months. Before you dive in, do some research to find out just how much effort — and cash — it’s going to take you to buy and maintain the pool.

    Theyre Not Easy To Maintain

Pools need to be drained regularly, and smaller pools that get heavy use need to be drained more often than most. Regularly cleaning is also a must. Alternately, they sit full of dirty water or exposed to the elements, a recipe for waterborne disease the next time theyre used.

Responsible pool owners also have to make sure their pools are visibly clean free of debris and scum and invisibly clean with correct chemical levels throughout. Managing water chemistry is tricky and it requires either hiring a professional or learning more than you probably want to about the science and best practices. Either way, its an investment that eats into the supposed advantage of ordering a pool online in the first place.

Tips On Decking Around The Pool:

Why Families Are Buying Above Ground Pools

THIS IS ONLY FOR REFERENCE NOT INSTRUCTIONS.

Figuring out how to deck all the way around the pool was tricky. We couldnt find info anywhere on how to do it, so we kind of had to figure it out on our own.

We did learn how to get boards up under the lip of the pool, by framing it in and then using a jigsaw to cut out exactly what we needed to get the decking boards under the top plate of the pool.

We also had to figure out how to frame around the pump. We built removable pieces to get to the mechanics of the pump, and theres a gate in the side of the pickets around the pool so we have access to it.

I think thats about all the tips I have. But if you have more questions, wed be glad to answer them in the comments below

How Much Space Do You Have

Few people want a backyard dominated by a swimming pool. Experts recommend having open yard space thats at least equal to the size of your pool. For example, a yard with a 40 x 20-foot pool should have at least 800 square feet of walkways, decks, patios, and grass.

Bear in mind that how you intend to use a pool for recreation or exercise will affect the size and depth of the pool youll need. If you plan on using it primarily for recreation, the size is less important than if you plan on using it for exercise. For lap swimming, youll need a minimum size of 32 x 16 feet for a single swimmer.

A Dip Is Refreshing During Hot Weather

If you live in an area where the weather can be unbearably hot, the advantages of having your own swimming pool are obvious.

I had never really thought about getting an above-ground pool until my daughter and her family got one. They have been enjoying their pool for the past several years, and I can see several advantages of having this kind of pool.

They have two children. When the kids were little, they opted for a small-sized pool. It was big enough for the kids to learn to swim in. Now that the kids are growing up, and their first pool is aging, they are considering moving up to a larger pool.

The kids love having friends over for swimming parties, and it makes their backyard a popular destination.

Shallow, above ground pools are the perfect introduction to swimming for kids.

    It’s Not Exactly ‘green’

If you’re concerned about living an eco-friendly life, getting a pool probably isn’t the best move. Increased electricity and water use not only affect a utility bill, but the environment, too. Researchers have found that environmental impacts are much greater in warmer, more arid climates where pools are likely to get greater use.

Above Ground Pool Vs Inground Pool Cost: What Are The Costs

Swimming is one of the best ways to relieve stress. Even if you arent a big swimmer, installing a pool in your backyard gives you a place to relax, which can benefit your mental health.

Trying to decide what type of pool to get, though, usually does the opposite, but dont let it overwhelm you. Weve put together this guide to help you compare above ground pool vs inground pool cost and learn which option is better for your home.

    So lets get started!

How Long Does It Take To Install An Above Ground Pool

Total installation of an above ground swimming pool generally takes at least 10 days. The actual work can be done in a single day, but your pool wont be ready to use immediately. The extra time allows for the base under the pool to settle before you use it.

However, you should add at least a couple of days to the total if youre having to flatten or change any of your landscape to accommodate your pool.

    What Is Your Backyard Like

Reasons You Should Buy An Above

The first thing you need to consider when buying a new above ground pool is what your backyard is like. There are two things that you really want to look at:

  • Size. How big is your backyard? Is there anything that would need to be removed in order to fit a new above ground pool? Measure your available space before shopping for pools to better determine what size and shape will work best for your yard.
  • Slope. Is your backyard relatively flat, or is there a large slope from one side to the other? If your yard is severely sloped youll be limited in the types of above ground pools that you can buy.

    Tips For Added Pool Safety:

    • Check local pool safety regulations and abide by them.
    • Avoid slippery materials on decks around the pool or ladders.
    • Keep all electrical pool equipment safely away from the entrance of the pool.
    • Always properly maintain your pool and water quality, cover sharp edges, and repair any issues immediately.
    • Never, EVER, leave children playing in the pool alone.
    • Install safety measures, especially if you have children or pets.

Pool safety is no joke, and you should take it very seriously. Even if you do not have children think about adding the necessary safety measures in case a neighborhood kid decides to take it upon themselves to test your pool without your knowledge.

Above Ground Pool Or Inground Pool: Which One Should You Buy

Part of deciding what type of pool to install involves thinking about how you plan to use it. Do you want to swim laps as a form of exercise in the evening? Is the pool a fun way to entertain the kids and help them get out some energy?

The answers to these questions will have a big impact on the design and depth of your pool. If you arent sure how you want to use your pool just yet, here are a few pros and cons of both styles to help you decide.

How Do You Install An Above

Size of Your Yard: Essential Above Ground Pool Buyers Guide

The proper way to install an above-ground pool depends on the type. However, there’s a general process to follow when setting up standard pools with PVC walls and steel frames. After clearing an area and making sure the ground is level, start by laying down the ground cloth and placing the bottom plate on top.

Next, connect the metal rails to the bottom plate and around the perimeter. Then connect the vertical side rails to the bottom portion of the frame. Be sure to read the directions carefully, as the different metal rods can look similar but won’t line up or connect properly if you use the wrong ones.

After that, install the lining onto the bottom plate and up the walls. When finished, your pool should have a balanced shape, and the walls should all be the same height.
