The Three Factors That Determine How Much A Pool Pump Will Cost To Operate

Should You Buy An Above Ground Pool? Review and Costs

If you are researching this, chances are that you are either considering buying a pool and want to know what the monthly electric cost is, or youre an existing pool owner with a high bill. These three things will tell you almost exactly what your existing pool pump is costing you.

If you are getting a pool and want just an idea of what the electric cost is, then you can somewhat determine this with this info as well.

1 What horsepower is the pump?

Above ground pool pumps can be tricky with their ratings. This is one of the google rabbit holes you can choose to go down to determine exactly how efficient and uprated a pump is and what that means in reference to how much energy it uses.

The best example of this that I can remember was several years ago when I was installing pools for Recreational Factory Warehouse. It was the nineties and in the pool business, pump sizes started going up.

Bigger is always better in America, so retailers who were selling only 3/4 HP and 1 HP pumps were now selling 1.5 HP and 2 HP pumps instead. They didnt move much more water than the pumps they replaced, but pool owners thought they needed something with a bigger number on it, so the trend went to bigger.

During this time, Rec Warehouse started selling a whopping 2.5 HP pump, but there was something wrong. This pump motor was only single voltage.

2 How long the pump runs per day

Bigger above ground pools may need to run longer and smaller pools may be able to run less.

Semi Inground Pool Installation Faqs

Average cost of a semi-inground pool?

$3000.00-$5000.00 depending on pool size, pool shape, and depth. This price is for excavation, building pool and set-up, installing pool liner and filter system, and back-filling. Landscaping, Electrical Service, and Water would all cost extra.

How long do semi-inground pools last?

If you install a quality swimming pool like an Aquasport 52 you can expect 40-60 years. If you install a quality regular above ground pool with a rolled wall, maybe 15-20 years, but you risk the wall caving in when you replace the pool liner in 7-9 years.

How deep can a semi inground pool be?

You cannot put a deep-end in an above ground pool. Sure you can dish the center a bit on a round pool, but above ground pools are constant depth pools. With a 52 inch pool wall you get roughly 48-50 inches of water.

How much does it cost to dig a hole for a pool?

$1500.00 to $3000.00. It depends on the depth your installing it and the size of your pool. This price does not include back-filling the pool once it is built.

Above Ground Pool Price

The cost of the above ground pool itself can stretch as much as $1,000 to $3,000. Please do note that above ground pools with oval shape are priced much higher than the round above ground pools. Oval pools also have more expensive kits as compared to the round pools.

Of course, price is relative to how big you want your pool to be. The larger above ground pool you build, the higher the cost is.

But if you want the best above ground pool complete with a deck, then you need an additional budget of around $2,000 to $2,500. Although small sizes and cheap brands are available, we really do not recommend for you to invest in this kind as they are not durable at all.

Is The Cost Of An Above

That all depends on your goals and expectations. Are you a person who really enjoys cooling off in the water on a hot, sweltering day? Do you want to keep the teenagers close to home and provide a place where they will bring their friends for the next few years? Are you just hoping to keep younger children occupied for a couple of years?

Base your benefit-cost analysis on the personal value you place on having a pool. If your goal is to increase the monetary value and marketability of your home, an above-ground pool isnt your best choice. For property value considerations, an inground pool will give you a better return on your investment though your investment will be substantially greater in either case.

That said, we would hazard a guess that in the dog days of summer when youre relaxing in the cool, refreshing water, soaking up some sun and washing away your cares, itll feel worth it in that moment.

Since were all home now more than ever, being prepared for unexpected home repairs with a plan from HomeServe is important. A Breakdown Of The Price

The price range for both an above ground pool and an inground pool can vary widely depending on the type you get, where you live, who you hire, etc. However, on average, youre looking at about $2,800 on an above ground pool and about $35,000 on an inground pool as the base.

So if youre looking at cost alone, installing an above ground pool is much, much cheaper.

Price isnt the only thing you have to consider when shopping for a pool, though. Just because an above ground pool is more affordable doesnt always make it the right choice for your backyard. Unless youre working with a tight budget, spending more on an inground pool might be the better choice.

Indoor Swimming Pool Cost To Maintain

Underground Vs Aboveground Pools: Costs And Comparisons

Indoor swimming pool maintenance costs are lower than those of an outdoor pool because maintenance mainly involves keeping the pools chemicals balanced, and even those are cheaper per month because there is no sunlight to alter them. You dont have outdoor debris in the filters, nor do you have high water evaporation or outdoor weathering problems like UV rays. Additional items will make your indoor pool cheaper to maintain.

  • Pool Cover This ensures you have no water evaporation, and an automatic cover will cost about $4,800$6,000.
  • Water Heater – A solar heater designed for the purpose would cost nearly $340. You can install it on your own.
  • Dehumidifying System This protects the building from moisture damage. The cost of a pool room humidifier is approximately $20,000.

How To Build A Concrete Pool Above Ground

The above ground concrete pool construction process is a little different from building an inground pool. Instead of digging a hole and laying a web of rebar, you would start by building the walls around your pool . From there, you might build your pool as usual, often using the gunite process, but the exact process will vary by contractor.

Pros And Cons Of An Above

How Much Does an Above Ground Pool Cost?

Like any addition to a property, above-ground pools have positive and negative attributes to consider. Above-ground pools are usually less expensive and easier to install. They also typically have lower-maintenance and ongoing costs and are generally easier to keep clean.

However, most above-ground pools are more limited in size and shape than in-ground pools. Above-ground pools are likely round, oval, or rectangular, and most are sold in kits with pre-determined sizes. There are few, if any, custom options available, so getting one with a specific size or depth may not be possible.

Above-ground pools do not last as long as in-ground pools and must be repaired or replaced within 3 to 10 years, depending on the material and construction. They may also hurt your home’s resale value because they are not considered a permanent structure.
