Pools And Splash Pads In San Antonio Have Reopened With Covid

SAN ANTONIO After being open for only a few weeks last year amid some of the pandemic’s most devastating months, San Antonio’s pool season began Saturday for families to relax and splash around as life slowly returns to normal.

Four city pools Heritage, Lady Bird Johnson, Southside Lions and Woodlawn will be operating Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., as well as on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Meanwhile, Kennedy and San Pedro will only be operating during those weekend hours for now.

Splash pads are also open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Pearsall Park, Lincoln Park, Benavides Park, Hemisfair, and Elmendorf Lake Park.

“We want to invite the public back to some sort of normalcy,” said Veronica Rodriguez, program manager for aquatics.

Rodriguez said you’re welcome to get back in the water, as long as you follow the new rules.

“The only time you will not be wearing your mask is when you’re in the pool,” Rodriguez said. “Otherwise, if you’re going to the restroom or going to grab a drink of water, masks will be required.”

With the coronavirus still a threat in the community and plenty of residents still waiting to be vaccinated, families are being asked to register online beforehand, at no charge, to visit during a specific window of time. According to those registration pages, the open swim visits are being limited to two hours or 75 minutes depending on the day, and visitors who arrive late may “forfeit” their predetermined swim session.

San Antonio Pools Youth Summer Programs Opening Soon

As coronavirus transmission remains low and the vaccination rate rises, the City plans to open public pools and start youth summer programs soon.

The coronavirus pandemic shut pools down all of last year, but this year, most will open.Interim Parks and Recreation Manager Sara Sharp told City Council members Wednesday that only 18 out of the 26 of the Citys pools will open this summer, and start dates will be staggered. On May 8, six pools will open. On June 5, another six will open. And the final thirdwill open on July 2.

That could change depending on how many lifeguards the Parks and Recreation Department can hire.

Were constantly hiring, but the opening of the pools will be contingent on us being able to do it safely because thats the only way we can open those pools, Sharp said.

All 18 pools will be open on weekends but have varied hours during the week.

The Parks and Recreation Department will also begin signing up area children between the ages of 6 and 14 for summer programs, operating at 21 parks and nine school sites. In a typical year, summer programs run for eight weeks between June and August, Sharp said. However, this year, the Parks Department kept in mind changing school schedules when planning its summer programming.

What are people saying about swimming pools in San Antonio, TX?

This is a review for swimming pools in San Antonio, TX:

“A beautiful public gazebo in Olmos Terrace. It has a public garden around it, with all kinds of places to sit in the shade among the flowers, herbs and veggies growing. It’s a beautiful place if you want to have a little party or a meeting or something. There’s lots of places to have a seat, so I think it’d be great for live music. The neighborhood takes care of the plants, and the public works of art that are built into the park. They have trash cans out, so don’t mess up the place. The variety of plants in here is quite remarkable, with lots of different flowers and fruits and vegetables that naturally grow in the area. The gazebo is nice, keeps out the sun and the rain. There’s plenty of parking, just park on the street. There are no restrooms or BBQ pits.”

  • The Plan Is Being Worked On Right Now Says Mayor Ron Nirenberg

SAN ANTONIO With temperatures rising, plenty of Texans likely have the same question when it comes to reopening Texas: When will pools open up?

Despite Texas Governor Greg Abbott giving the green light to reopen public pools, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg says city officials arent ready to make that move just yet.

Local governments reserve the right to manage city pools and decide when they reopen.

The Mayor says like all other phases of reopening, the transition team is looking for ways to open pools in a safe manner.

Were monitoring the successive phase of opening of Texas to make sure that theres no spikes, Nirenberg says. Once we pass our data tests to make sure were safe and not seeing another surge in cases, were gonna begin to open those pools but the plan is being worked on right now.
