Above Ground Pools Are Affordable

Intex above ground pool system. What you need to know before buying your pool.

The dream of owning your own pool has now become possible for the average family. They used to be available only to the rich. Modern above-ground pools have changed all of that.

When they first became available, above-ground pools were little more than glorified toys. Ugly and expensive, there was not much reason to recommend them. They didn’t even have circulation systems in them, so the only way to keep the water fresh was to drain and refill it.

In the 1950s, manufactured pools began to use filtration systems. In the 1970s, innovations in design and materials made them more attractive, sturdier, and more reliable. The price was still prohibitive for most people.

However, as these pools have become more popular, the price has continued to drop, making them affordable for most families.

An Above Ground Pool Is Also Covered By Pool Fencing Laws

There have been cases of drowning that led to injuries and even death in Australia. This is why the government implemented the Pool Fencing Laws. These measures require homeowners who have a pool or a spa to build a fence around it for everyones safety, especially the kids. In some states like Western Australia, people are required to acquire a permit from the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety. Safety barriers around swimming pools are a must for both inground pools and above ground pools. The government takes a cautious approach with this safety precaution in consideration.

Testing Your Sand Bottom

The weight of the water in the pool will help to compact the sand bottom underneath the liner. Generally it takes 5-10 days for the sand to be fully compacted and become hardened.

The first time you get in the pool to swim, gently feel the bottom of the pool to ensure the sand is sufficiently compacted. If the bottom is still soft, give it a few more days before walking around on the bottom.

***Country Leisure Pro Tip: Leaving footprints in the bottom of the pool will make it extremely difficult to vacuum your pool dont rush this step!

Above Ground Pool Maintenance

Here are some tips to maintaining your pool.

  • Run the Pool Filter Daily: This should be 12 to 24 hours every day
  • Test pH Levels: Do this weekly to make sure the levels are between 7.2 and 7.6.
  • Check Your Chlorine Levels: With not enough chlorine, your pool can be vulnerable to bacteria and turn green in color. Too much chlorine can irritate skin and eyes. Levels should be between 2.0 and 4.0 ppm.
  • Empty Skimmers and Pumps as Needed: Remove debris every day.
  • Check for Hidden Algae and Mold Monthly: Chlorine kills the algae in your pool, but deposits can build up over time. Look for fungi in your pool on a monthly basis.

Tips On Decking Around The Pool:

How To Buy A Used Above Ground Pool Pt. 1

THIS IS ONLY FOR REFERENCE NOT INSTRUCTIONS.

Figuring out how to deck all the way around the pool was tricky. We couldnt find info anywhere on how to do it, so we kind of had to figure it out on our own.

We did learn how to get boards up under the lip of the pool, by framing it in and then using a jigsaw to cut out exactly what we needed to get the decking boards under the top plate of the pool.

We also had to figure out how to frame around the pump. We built removable pieces to get to the mechanics of the pump, and theres a gate in the side of the pickets around the pool so we have access to it.

I think thats about all the tips I have. But if you have more questions, wed be glad to answer them in the comments below

Other Things To Consider

Here a four more above ground pool tips to help you make the right choice.

1. Size

Choosing a pool size depends mostly on the dimensions of your yard. However, you also need to consider ordinances in your community. Some local municipalities or homeowners associations have size restrictions regarding backyard pools. Be sure to find out if there are restrictions where you live before you buy anything.

2. Shape

Above ground pools are round or oval. The shape you choose will also depend on the size of your yard and local ordinances. Dont be fooled by the shape, either. While you might think oval pools are larger, that is not necessarily the case.

A 24 round pool actually holds more water than a 15 x 30 oval pool. However, it is still less expensive because it has fewer parts.

The advantage of oval pools is that they look a bit more like an in-ground pool, especially if you build a raised deck around it.

3. Depth

The depth of your pool will depend on the wall height. Above ground pools have three basic wall heights: 48, 52 and 54. The higher the wall, the more water it will hold.

4. Who will use the pool?

When thinking about the size and depth of the pool, you need to think about who will be using it the most. Will it be mostly adults or your children/grandchildren? If children will be using the pool, how old are they? Younger children may need the safety of lower walls.

Find Out If Its Legal

Its always a good idea to check local zoning laws or, if applicable, ask your homeowners association. For example, some neighborhoods have pools, but the HOA doesnt allow people to place one on their property.

Also, make sure to have the city come out and mark where the power lines in your yard are, so the installation crew doesnt hit them if they do any digging.

Things to know before buying an above ground pool

If you want a pool in your backyard and do not see yourself getting an in-ground pool anytime soon, then getting an above ground pool is the better choice. Above ground pools are available in different versions such as economical to customizable, luxurious, and expensive pools. Along with that, above ground pools also come with efficient energy saving and solar heating systems. More advanced models of above ground pools are also equipped with filtration systems and pumps to keep them clean. Following are some of the common questions associated with above ground pools.

What factors determine the price of above ground pools?

    • The price of an above ground pool, just like any other product, is subjective to the quality of the product. The prices start from as low as $200 and can go substantially high to around $62,000.
    • The location can also be a factor in the price of an above ground pool however, it is the size that most often determines the price of the pool. Along with the price, the quality and shape of the pool can also be a determining factor for the price.

Do You Want A Diy Above Ground Pool

When you set up your swimming pool, you need to know ahead of time whether you want to leave it up year round or if you prefer to avoid having to maintain it through the winter months. For many, having an inflatable pool that can be drained, deflated, and stored away in the garage is an easier solution and often times you can install these yourself. Others enjoy having their swimming pool set up in its designated area, especially if they plan to have a deck around it. Which one do you prefer? A year round swimming pool is often more complicated to install and you may have to hire someone. It also requires year-round maintenance and youll have to know how to winterize the pool. One that you put away simply requires you to set it up again next year.

How Much Does An Above Ground Pool Cost

This varies significantly depending on which type of pool you decide to go with. Going back to the point prior, a permanent set up, like the Blue Wave Belize, is going to be more costly. However, the Intex Easy Set that can be set up and taken down without much hassle is much more easy on the wallet. That being said, many people only take into consideration the price of the pool. However, purchasing the swimming pool is not the extent of what you will spend. A larger above ground swimming pool requires chemicals to keep the water clear and algae free. The chemicals are not cheap and there is a good chance you will be adding chemicals weekly to the pool all through the summer months. Its important to keep this in mind when budgeting for a pool.

    Which Type Of Mattress

When it comes to mattresses, choosing the right one can seem quite difficult at first glance. Every mattress has a different name and purpose, and every owner will praise his own mattress saying its different or better. To find the best mattress for yourself, you need to look for the shops where you can try the product in your home for 30 days. Things get more complicated if you suffer from back pain.

Youll have to consider that even a new mattress can cause this type of discomfort, and sleeping on the wrong one can make things even worse. Waking up with back pain is more common than you might think, so it is recommended to find the suitable mattress for back pain relief. A good choice will help you fight the back pain and impact the quality of your life significantly.

    Run The Pool Pump Daily

What You Should Know before Buying and Installing an Above ...

Even if you don’t plan to use the pool for a day or two, you should still run the pool pump and filter for 12 to 18 hours daily. The two run together to keep the water clean. The pool pump pulls the water from the pool and into the filter to clean the water from accumulated dirt and debris. The pump is also important because it keeps the water circulating to reduce algae growth.
