How To Become A Lifeguard

Are Outdoor Swimming Pools Open
Outdoor swimming pools can reopen in England have been allowed to open since Monday March 29.
The restrictions on outdoor pools were lifted at the same time as other outdoor sports facilities, such as sports courts, riding centres, and golf courses.
The rules have also changed to allow people to mix with members of up to two households or with a group of six people outdoors.
In Wales, lockdown restrictions will next be reviewed on April 22, when more information on their roadmap concerning gyms and the use of swimming pools might be revealed.
For those in Scotland, swimming pools and other leisure activities are set to resume from April 26.
Swimming pools are still closed in Northern Ireland but the government will reassess its lockdown rules on April 15.
Hiring A Challenge In Recreation Industry
Hiring new employees has been challenging for some businesses, as some Americans who were unemployed have found new careers or returned to school. Others may no longer feel comfortable in public settings.
“It’s a nationwide thing,” said Chris Lucas, a unit operations supervisor in the citys Parks and Recreation Department. “It’s not just Oklahoma City.”
The city has hired about 15 lifeguards in the last three weeks, Lucas said. The city has 35 lifeguards but needs between 70 and 80 to operate facilities at maximum capacity.
What to do this summer in Oklahoma:From road trips to museums to nature and more
Each community pool needs a minimum of five lifeguards to operate, but officials plan to have six or seven at each one, Lucas said.
Lucas said application numbers have declined in the last two weeks. People typically apply for jobs as lifeguards during May, but this year, many applied later than normal.
Most seasonal lifeguards are between the ages of 16 and 22, Lucas said. As the summer progresses, people in that age group are less likely to apply because theyre already planning to return to school and college.
I think weve seen the bulk of our applications come through, Lucas said.
Other recreational companies in Oklahoma City including Riversport Adventures and the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City also have had multiple job openings.

What People Are Saying About Our Customer Service
- I’m a first time hot tub owner, purchased from Bluewater Pools last fall at the Hot Tub Expo. Mike was excellent to deal with, and the setup/delivery crew were prompt and professional. When I visit the store for water tests or to buy supplies, Tiffany always goes the extra mile, always has a smile on her face and is a pleasure to deal with. My lone service call was handled promptly and courteously.Kevin S.
- I had a string of bad luck this year with my pool and I couldn’t be happier with the advice and support I received from the staff at Bluewater. I had one of their fantastic employees stay 2 hours after hours to help with a pool pump issue I had… They’re my go to pool store…. Thank you!Dave L.
- The staff are extremely knowledgeable and very friendly, I got quotes for a safety cover to be installed over my pool and these guys had the beat price by hundreds compared to all the other pool places in Windsor. If you don’t want to overpay then you definitely want to deal with Bluewater, their prices are the best you’re going to find.Susan C.

What Safety Measures Will Swimming Pools Take Once They Are Open
Once swimming facilities are reopened, they are likely to ask anyone with Covid-19 symptoms to avoid paying a visit.
When pools had briefly welcomed guests last summer, they had kept their changing rooms and showers closed, and asked their visitors to come to the pool swim-ready.
Swimmers were encouraged to keep their distance from others, stay in their lane, swim in a clockwise direction.
The venues sanitised their pools by reheating their water once every hour and using chlorine to inactivate viruses.
City Of Okc Community Pools Start Odd
Community pools now added to family aquatic center odd-even schedule
OKLAHOMA CITY After remaining closed at the start of summer, Woodson and Northeast community pools will open July 2 on the same odd-even schedule as the City of Oklahoma Citys two family aquatic centers.
Wednesday, the citys Parks and Recreation department announced an updated schedule leading into the July 4th weekend updating the earlier pool schedule that had included only the two family aquatic centers but not the community pools.
Starting Friday, Earlywine Family Aquatic Center and Woodson Community Pool will open on even-numbered dates. The Will Rogers Family Aquatic Center and Northeast Community Pool will open on odd-numbered dates.
Parks and Rec announced earlier in the summer that a lack of people to work as lifeguards and other staff was the main factor in opening only two of the four pools.

Thinklab Will Create 500 Jobs At Shaw’s Northeast Campus
Rogers Communications has announced plans for its national centre of technology and engineering excellence in Calgary.
Rogers THINKLab will set up shop at Shaw’s existing northeast campus on Barlow Trail, once the two communications companies close their proposed merger deal later this year.
It plans to create 500 jobs at the site.
The plan is to recruit students graduating from various post-secondary institutions to work at THINKLab.
Their focus will be on engineering, networks, as well as digital and information technologies.
The chief technology information officer for Rogers, Jorge Fernandes, said there’s a national shortage of tech workers. So their plan is to build their own talent pool.
“We’ve increased the relationships and the partnerships we have with post-secondary institutions and we’re beginning to find that talent early on, train them, work with them,” said Fernandes.
“Essentially, show them a great environment so that they don’t feel they have to go south or work with U.S. companies to be exposed to the latest technologies.”
Fernandes said Calgary is an attractive city to set up this centre and the Shaw campus is the ideal home.
“We have a lot of technical capability in this building and a lot of future potential as well. So, it’s a natural place for us to be. We don’t have to rebuild anything.”
