Should I Build A Vinyl Pool Fiberglass Pool Or Gunite Pool

The answer to this question will affect your cost, maintenance and long term enjoyment of your pool so choose wisely! For most DIY pool projects, a Gunite pool is Out of the Question ~ its a very complicated installation, with too many trades involved. For a simpler discussion, lets contrast and compare between Fiberglass pools and Vinyl lined pools, or Vinyl Pool Kits vs. Fiberglass Pools

The term Vinyl Pool is a bit of a misnomer, Vinyl Lined Pools would be a better description. Inground vinyl pool kits have walls of either steel or polymer, and a floor of either sand or vermiculite over top of which a vinyl liner is placed. Fiberglass pools, as shown above, are a pre-fabricated shell, delivered on a truck and positioned with a crane, set on a bed of sand.

How Do You Install Your Swimming Pool Kit

    Fiberglass Inground Pool Kit

DIY, as we all know, means do it yourself. If you are competent enough. there is no reason why you cant install our fibreglass swimming pool kit yourself. Its not that hard! Basically, you need to dig a hole big enough to accept the swimming pool and fit in the pool plumbing/filtration system, lower in the fibreglass swimming pool, connect the swimming pool plumbing, backfill the hole and install whatever coping or decking you need.

The big advantage of DIY swimming pool kit installation is you do not have to pay a swimming pool kit company to organize and carry out the pool installation and pay whatever profit margin they put on the installation, which saves you thousands of dollars.

If you hire a local tradesperson or builder then you are also going to save money because their travel time will be less. You can use a friend or trusted local builder but there are many tradespeople or builders who are capable of installing a fibreglass swimming pool.

At DIY Swimming Pools we try to make our pools the most affordable locally built fibreglass swimming pools available on the market. We pride ourselves on a number of our business practices which we believe has built great word of mouth advertising for our swimming pool kits:

    • High quality construction with structural integrity

Whats In A Fiberglass Pool Kit

All fiberglass pool kits will at least include the most important part…the fiberglass pool shell. In addition to the pool shell, a fiberglass pool kit may also include:

    • The pump and filter system
    • Some hardware
    • Dig sheet
    • Pool cover
    • Shipping costs

Fiberglass pool kits will vary with some being very basic and others including all of the above and more. Many do not include the cost of shipping, which can add thousands of dollars to the price, and most will not provide sanitizing systems or pool covers.

Keep in mind that your fiberglass pool kit will most likely not include the backfill material for your pool, concrete, a heater or chiller, basic tools, water features, or materials for your coping and patio.

We want to address many of these questions and also provide a resource that can help you install your own fiberglass pool.

If you’re just starting your research, you’re probably thinking: “Fiberglass pools are conceptually easy to install. You just dig a hole and set it in, right?”

Well, yes, although it may not be quite as simple as it seems at first glance.

However, fiberglass pools are a perfect Do-It-Yourself project for anyone with basic excavation and plumbing experienceand, of course, time.

If you are considering a DIY fiberglass pool you probably have several questions like:

    • How much money do I save with a DIY fiberglass pool?

    • What are some common problems associated with Do It Yourself fiberglass pools?
    • Is there a comprehensive installation guide available that can walk me through every aspect of installing the fiberglass pool?

If youve ever built a toy model or assembled furniture from a box, you might think that a pool kit is similar to that. In some ways, you are correct. An inground pool kit comes with many of the parts that you need to put your pool together, but in the end, its more than just assembling the pieces.

Building a swimming pool is a construction project, and it requires much more than you will get in any inground pool kit. At River Pools, we know from our many years in the fiberglass pool business that pool building gets messy and requires a long list of supplies.

So, what do inground pool kits include and what are they missing? How much do they cost and what types of pool kits are available? In this article, well answer all of these questions and more.

    Fiberglass Inground Pool Prices

Because they are more labor intensive, inground pools will cost more than above ground pools. The average above ground pool is under $10,000. Inground pools can be six times that amount or more.

The total cost of an inground pool will depend on the package you select from your pool provider. That price varies from seller to seller, so shop around and find the right fit for you and your budget.

Fiberglass inground pool prices depend heavily on installation and how much work the pool company needs to do. Turn-key installation costs associated with fiberglass inground pools range from $45,000 to $85,000. Fiberglass inground pool packages with a self-install option are much less at around $20,000.

In general, the more labor you take on yourself, the less you will pay for your pool. The materials themselves will cost about $18,000 total. Labor on top of that can cost upwards of $65,000. That includes permits, digging, backfill, grading, filters and electrical work.
