One of the main things that you have to consider when choosing an inground pool is the interior finish.

Youve got a lot of options for this part, but which one is the best?

You want it to transform your pool into an oasis, a relaxing space that makes you forget the responsibilities waiting outside the water. With that in mind, you dont want something that just looks nice. You probably want something thats easy to maintain and lasts for years.

Epoxy paint is one possibility among many for putting that final touch on your pool. Its sometimes marketed as the DIY option for pool interiors .

Lets take a look at the details, and you can see for yourself if epoxy paint is your best option.

What Is Pool Epoxy Paint

Epoxy paint is a solvent-based pool paint. It can be used on various pool types, like concrete and even fiberglass, and it creates a unified, finished surface.

The problem is, this paint can be kind of finicky. You can only use it on bare surfaces or surfaces already painted with epoxy paint.

One thing to note is that epoxy pool paint isnt known for its speedy application process. It takes up to a full week for a painted outdoor pool to cure, and for an indoor pool, it can take up to two weeks.

Peeling Is Not Appealing

Pool paint can peel and blister due to improper preparation of the pool’s surfaces. If the pool hasn’t been cleaned and dried before painting, blistering can occur. These problems can also happen if the paint layers are too thick or the surfaces to be painted are hot. Spots that have blistered can be repainted without repainting the entire pool. Sand and scrape the affected area first.

Cracks resembling alligator skin happen when the top coat of paint doesn’t bond properly with the coat beneath it. Completely remove the cracking paint with a power washer on large areas or by scraping and sanding on more manageable spots. Prime and repaint with epoxy pool paint.

Calculation Guide For Pool Paint:

Paint your Pool with LUXAPOOL Epoxy Pool Paint – How to acid etch your pool before painting

Now, after you have bought the perfect paint for your pool. The question remains, how would you paint it, I have made it easier for you as well. Ive laid down the whole calculation process to make it easier for you.

The first thing that you need to know about painting is the measurement. You need to measure the square foot area of the pool that you will be painting. It is a crucial step.

Secondly, you would need to measure the length of the pool. After that, the width of the pool needs to be measured. Finally, it would help if you count the average depth of the pool as well.

I will explain it to you with an example. Suppose you have a rectangular pool whose sides are equal. This method would calculate the measurement of that pool this way:

L x W = ____

L x D x 2 = ____

W x D = ____

After getting the result of the three, add them to get Total Area .

Secondly, figure the quantity of 1-gallon kits required to paint the Total Area, divide by 300 and multiply by 2 .

TA/300 x 2 = Quantity of the paint buckets needed.

To specify the number of supplies of 1 gallon:

810 three hundred gallons = 2,7 x 2= 5,4 gallons.

So wed collect up to six 1 gallon kits and suggest them.

Testing Method For Choosing The Right Paint

Its critical that you end up choosing the right swimming pool paint for your pool. After all, its a considerable expense and you dont want to reapply paint on your pool repeatedly. Our recommendation is to repaint your pool with the current paint type already applied to it, even though there are a lot of high-quality pool paint options that will look great over another paint type.

For example, if your swimming has been coated with epoxy pool paint you should repaint it with epoxy, and if it was painted with acrylic then you must choose acrylic for the repaint. We know that most people arent familiar with the type of paint used on their swimming pools, but weve got the answer to that riddle. All you need to do is perform a simple paint chip test, and heres how you do it:

  • Chip off paint
  • Rub that paint chip in acrylic or epoxy paint solvent
  • Youll have a match if the chip dissolves in the solvent in a minute. So, if the chip dissolves in the epoxy solvent, then it is epoxy pool paint.

Most people forget to check the existing type of paint on their swimming pool and end up making the right choice. You need to test the paint type before youre reapplying paint on your swimming pool as it is the difference between a horrible DIY project or a spectacular looking pool.
