Standard Safety And Supervisory Standards In City Pools And Beaches
There are safety standards so that everyone can enjoy the Citys swimming pools and beaches.
If you are unsure of how these requirements apply to you, please contact the pool before your visit.
To ensure adequate supervision and to identify people at greater risk, all swimmers need to wear a City-issued coloured wristband to get in the pool.
Non-swimmers and those who cannot pass the facility’s swim test must remain in shallow water.
Each ratio below indicates the maximum number of children that one responsible person 14 years or older can supervise. The parent or guardian must be in proper bathing attire, in the water, actively participating and within arms reach at all times.
Are Outdoor Swimming Pools And Lidos Open
Outdoor swimming pools and lidos are currently open.
The government gave the green light for outdoor sports facilities such as tennis and basketball courts, and open-air swimming pools to re-open on Monday 29 March.
Swimming facilities are continuing to prioritise Covid-safe practises so swimmers can return to outdoor pools with peace of mind.
In a number of swimming centres, they have decided to keep changing rooms and communal showers closed. Instead asking for visitors to turn up swim-ready. This means swimmers should have their bathing costume on under their clothes. You should also bring your own towel if possible.
Outdoor swimming pools and lidos are also implementing the same social-distance measures as indoor pools. This means that individuals are asked to swim alone or only with other household members. Whilst at the pool, visitors are asked to keep their distance from others.
The number of visitors is also to be capped and monitored. It will be mandatory to book ahead and online, selecting a timed swim session.
Chlorine breaks down bacteria and viruses in the water, which helps reduce the risk of Covid-19 spreading in swimming pools.
In terms of pool hygiene, venues will reheat their water once every hour for sanitary reasons. The chlorine found in pool water is also effective at tackling the coronavirus.
Life Jackets And Pool Toys
Lifejackets, personal floatation devices, water wings, “pool noodles” and other floatation devices do not keep you safe in the pool. This equipment can be fun, but it is not a replacement for adult supervision!
Lifejackets and personal floatation devices must fit correctly to work. We don’t recommend water wings as they can deflate or slip, leaving a child dangling under water.

Pool Closures Due To Weather
Upon seeing lightning or hearing thunder, the pool must be cleared immediately. Outdoor aquatic site staff and patrons are to stay away from objects that conduct electricity, such as reaching poles and umbrellas and are to stay a minimum of 30 metres away from any wire fence. Patrons may return to the water 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder or the last sight of lightning. For further information regarding the potential danger of lightening strikes, contact Environment Canada.
Public Swimming Pool And Spa Drowning Prevention Program:
Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury deaths in children ages 1 to 4 in Ohio it is the second leading cause of unintentional injury deaths in children ages 5 to 9 and 10 to 14. Survivors of severe drowning incidents can experience long-term disabilities including memory problems, learning deficiencies, and loss of basic cognitive functioning. Historically, Ohio has not systematically collected detailed information on public swimming pool-related injuries or deaths.
Recognizing the usefulness of this information for preventing drowning incidents, the Ohio Department of Health has initiated the Public Swimming Pool and Spa Drowning Prevention Program to determine the frequency and circumstances of these occurrences and to identify opportunities to prevent serious injuries in the future.
Any incident associated with a public swimming pool or spa facility that results in death, serious injury, or assistance from emergency medical personnel shall be reported to the licensor within seventy-two hours following the incident. Serious injury is defined as an injury that does not require immediate hospital admission but does require medical treatment, other than first aid. Voluntary reporting of other injuries is highly encouraged.

What Not To Bring
Youll need to leave food, glass bottles, electronic devices, and newspapers at home. Unbound periodicals tend to blow around and create litter, food can be messy to clean up after, and theres too much water around to make sure your electronics stay safe. Just to be on the safe side, we also recommend leaving valuables like jewelry and credit cards at home.
= Indicates that the pool includes a wheelchair accessible ramp or lift.

When Will Kids’ Swimming Lessons Restart
Indoor activities for children, including club sessions for under 18s in aquatic sports and learn to swim lessons, have also been allowed to resume from April 12.
This will be a welcome change for many parents and children, after close to a year of restrictions disrupting daily life.
Swim England’s chief executive Jane Nickerson told Radio 4 in 2020: “One of our biggest, biggest fears is that there will be a lost generation of children this year who don’t learn to swim.”
A statement from Nickerson said she was “delighted” about the reopening of outdoor swimming pools and open water venues, she stressed the importance of tomorrow’s ease in restrictions.
Nickerson said: While outdoor pools opening again is cause for celebration, especially as the Easter holidays begin, we realise that many still wont have access to a swimming pool.
Thats why it is vital that indoor pools do reopen on 12 April so the vast majority of people can get back into the water.”
She acknowledged the wait for older swimmers wanting to train with organised groups was frustrating.

Wearing A Mask In City Facilities
Masks must be worn in enclosed public spaces, including when entering the facility, in common areas, lobbies, washrooms, change rooms and hallways, as mandated by province-wide masking regulations.
We require that all clients wear masks except while exercising. Only the following programs, activities and individuals are exempt from the mask requirement:
- Swimming: masks may be removed when entering the water but are required in other areas of the building.
- Arenas: A mask is required at all times except while on the ice surface.
- Children under the age of 5 years chronologically or developmentally, who refuses to wear a mask and cannot be persuaded to do so by their caregiver.
- Individuals with medical conditions or disabilities rendering them unable to safely wear a mask.
- Individuals who are unable to put on or remove their mask without assistance.
Those who are exempt need to let staff know at the entrance during the screening process and let us know how they meet one of the exceptions listed above. They may be asked to use a face shield if their circumstance allows.

When Do Vegas Pool Parties Open For The Season
When do Vegas Pool Parties open for the season you ask? We get this question a lot so we figured that we would try to provide some answers for you. While most all of the pools will be opening in the beginning to middle of March, dont expect to see the big-name expensive DJs until right around Cinco de Mayo weekend.
If you are going to be in Vegas before the pool parties are going to be open but still feel like hitting up a pool there are a number of pools that are open year round, although you would have to bring the party.
So there are really two different questions, 1.) when do the pool parties open for the season and 2.) When the Vegas pool party starts to get busy.
We have put together a list of each of the Vegas pool parties and the approximate dates based on the opening days from the previous years.

Supervisory Standards In City Pools
Age |
---|
Accompanied by parent/guardian 14 years or older | 1:15 |
High-risk people must be in a ratio of 1:1. High-risk people have a condition or illness that may put them at risk in a pool, such as frequent seizures or fainting conditions. This includes people who are unable to control their behaviour or impulses and require direct supervision. The supervisory ratios for groups of high-risk people will be determined by pool staff based on the specific needs of the people and their associated risks. We recommend you call the pool before you visit.
