Kidney Or Irregular Shapes

HOW TO CALCULATE GALLONS OF WATER IN POOL

There are two methods used to calculate the capacity of irregular shapes. First, you can imagine the pool or hot tub as a combination of smaller, regular shapes. Measure these various areas and use the calculations described previously for each square or rectangular area and for each circular area. Add these volumes together to determine the total capacity.

0.45 x x length x average depth x 7.5 = volume

The total of measurement A plus measurement B multiplied by 0.45 multiplied by the length gives you the surface area of the kidney shape. . The rest of the calculations you are now familiar with. Try this volume calculation:

0.45 x x length x average depth x 7.5 = volume

0.45 x 18 ft x 25 ft x 5 ft x 7.5 = 7593.75 gallons

Parts Per Million

One of the most important calculations you will use is parts per million . The amount of solids and liquids in the water is measured in parts per million, as in three parts of chlorine in every one million parts of water, or 3 ppm.

To help, this list shows common terms and their equivalents:

Square foot = 12 inch wide x 12 inch long

Cubic foot = 12 inch wide x 12 inch long x 12 inch high

Cubic yard = 36 inch wide x 36 inch long x 36 inch high

One cubic foot of water contains 7.48 gallons

One cubic foot of water weighs 62.4 pounds

One gallon of water weighs 8.33 pounds

One part per million represents 8.3 pounds of chemical per million gallons of water.

Rectangular Or Square Variable Depth Pools

The Formula: LengthxWidthxAverage-Depthx7.5=Number Of Gallons In Pool.

Square or rectangular pool with variable depths are not quite as easy as the ones with a constant depth, but theyre not all that difficult either. First, the pool owner is going to have to figure out the average depth of the pool by measuring the shallow end depth and then measuring the deep end depth. Add that two figures together and then divide them by two. For example, if the shallow end of the pool is 2-feet and the deep end of the pool is 10-feet, then adding them together and dividing them by 2 will yield you an average depth of 6-feet .

Once you have the average depth of the pool, then measure the length and width of the pool. Now all of these numbers can be plugged into our formula to determine the number of gallons in the pool. Look at our example below to understand it better.

Example:

If you have a 12×24 foot square or rectangular pool with a variable depth of six feet, then you would multiple the numbers to come up with the cubic feet of the pool. This would be 12x24x6=1,728 cubic feet. The cubic feet of the pool would then be multiplied by 7.5 to get the gallons of water in the pool. Therefore, the 1,728 cubic feet of our example multiplied by 7.5 would yield a total volume in gallons of 12,960 gallons.

Now That You Know How To Calculate The Number Of Gallons In A Pool:

Take your time and get as close as you can to the actual capacity of your pool in gallons. Do it once and youll always know. If you know who your pool builder was, they may have the digging diagrams or specifications on file, and they can tell you your exact pool water volume.

Once you know exactly how to calculate the number of gallons in a pool, its always a good idea to round up the number to the nearest thousand gallons when engaging in conversation with anyone about chemical additions.

Just an aside its safe to say that the average size of an in ground pool is about 15,000 gallons.

Have fun and good luck!

How Many Btus Do I Need For A 10000 Gallon Pool

Or approximately 100K BTUs for every 10,000 gallons of pool water. For inground pools less than 20,000 gallons, small gas heaters like the Raypak 206K BTU output are suitable. Pools up to 30,000 gallons should look at the Pentair 300K BTU or higher, and pools over 50,000 gallons should look at the Hayward 500K BTU.

Is 40000 Btu Good For A Patio Heater

Patio heaters that are freestanding have an output of 40,000 BTUs per hour on average. This can heat a room with a circumference of 20 feet, which can accommodate a medium-sized gathering. If you want to heat a room with a circumference of 10 feet or less, get a unit with an output of 20,000 BTUs per hour. This can be used for small gatherings.

Variable Depth Pools: Square And Rectangular

Length x width x average depth x 7.5 = volume

Length times width gives the surface area of the pool. Multiplying that by the average depth gives the volume in cubic feet. Since there are 7.5 gallons in each cubic foot, multiply the cubic feet of the pool by 7.5 to arrive at the volume of the pool .

Measure the length, width, and average depth of the pool, rounding each measurement off to the nearest foot or percentage of one foot. One inch equals 0.0833 feet. Therefore, multiply the number of inches in your measurements by 0.0833 to get the appropriate percentage of one foot.

Example: 25 ft, 9 in. = 25 ft +

= 25 + 0.75

= 25.75 ft

If the shallow end is 3 feet and the deep end is 9 feet, and assuming the slope of the pool bottom is gradual and even, then the average depth is 6 feet.

Average depth = / 2

Average depth = / 2 = 6 feet.

If most of the pool is only 3 or 4 feet and then a small area drops off suddenly to 10 feet, you will have a different average depth. In such a case, you might want to treat the pool as two parts. Measure the length, width, and average depth of the shallow section, then take the same measurements for the deeper section. Calculate the volume of the shallow section and add that to the volume you calculate for the deeper section.

Length x width x average depth x 7.5 = volume

25.75 ft x 10 ft x 6 ft x 7.5 = 11,587.5 gallons

How Do You Determine The Maximum Occupancy Of A Pool

How To Calculate The Number of Gallons In A Pool

There are several guidelines and formulas to use when youre trying to determine the maximum occupancy of your swimming pool. For some codes, you would have to consider the recirculation flow rates for each swimmer. For other codes, the maximum occupancy depends on whether you have an outdoor, indoor, deep-end or shallow pool.

Another consideration to think about is the size of any decks which surround your pool or if your pools has diving boards, water slides, and other special equipment. As a pool operator, you must first learn about the health codes for you to use the correct formulas and so that you can adhere to the standards of the pool you have chosen.

Generally, though, if your locale doesnt specify these guidelines, you can use the following:

  • One person per 15 ft2 of surface area in parts of the swimming pool which are 5-ft in depth or less.
  • One person per 20 ft2 of surface area in parts of the swimming pool which are 5-ft in depth.
  • If your pool has a diving board, subtract 300 ft2 from the total value of the surface calculations.

For instance, if the shallow part of your swimming pool is 40 ft x 20 ft, that would be equal to 800 ft2. Using the first guideline, you can calculate the maximum number of persons for this part of the pool:

800 / 15 = 53 people

2900 / 20 = 145 people

Now, all you have to do is add these two values to get the total maximum occupancy of your pool. In our example, this is:

53 + 145 = 198 people

Irregularly Shaped Pool Volume

Not all pools are rectangular, square, or round. Some are oval, others are the classic kidney shape, and then some just wiggle all over the place, mimicking natural shorelines.

If you have an irregularly shaped pool, you can still calculate the volume. Youll just have to doyou guessed iteven more math!

The easiest way to calculate an oddly shaped pool is to imagine it broken down into two or more smaller, regularly shaped parts. Try to see smaller, individual squares, rectangles, or circles within the larger, irregular shape.

Once youve mapped them out, measure them, and then use the same formulae that apply to those regular shapes to calculate the volume in each smaller section. Then just add all the volume figures together, and youll have a pretty close approximation of the pools total volume.

Admittedly, this could also be known as the winging it procedure, and youre not going to get a completely accurate volume. If your pool is shaped like a fractal, your best bet is to have a professional take the measurements for you.

Constant Depth Square/rectangle Pool

How Many Gallons Is My Pool?

A Rectangular swimming pool is one of the most common types of swimming pools. If you have

Length x width x depth x 7.5 = volume

You can find the surface area of the pool by multiplying the length and width. Multiplying that by the depth will result in volume in cubic feet. As there are 7.5 gallons in each cubic foot, multiply the cubic feet of the pool by 7.5 to find the volume of the pool.

    Kidney Or Irregular Shape Pool

Measuring the volume of water in a kidney or irregular-shaped pool is simple if you have the right information. An irregular or kidney-shaped pool has both the circular shapes of a round pool and the elongated shape of a rectangular one. This could make you think it is a very complex task to achieve, but this isnt always the case.

Calculating how many gallons a kidney-shaped pool contains requires the use of three measurements and one formula only. Remember that you have to measure the surface area first before proceeding with the calculations.

    3.14 x Radius Squared x Average Depth x 7.5 = Volume

What does this mean? Lets explain: 3.14 is referred to as pi, a mathematical constant. Radius is ½ of the round pool diameter and divided by 2. This will get the radius number. Then, multiple that number by itself . For example, If you have 20 Ft round pool, divide by 2 and you will have 10 ft . Now, multiple that number by itself . This will be your Radius Squared number in the equation.

Example: Lets say the average depth of your pool is 8 Ft. and the Radius Squared number is 100. Here is what the formula would look like: 3.14 x 100 x 8 x 7.5 = 18,840 Gallons of Water .

Pool Volume Calculator For Irregularly Shaped Swimming Pools

There are pools whose shapes cannot be categorized assquare, rectangle, oval or round. They take up any form such as kidney shape, natural shorelines and just any form the owner can come up with. Such pools arecalled irregularly shaped pools.

Supposing you have a pool that is shaped irregularly, obtaining its volume is still possible. You just must do the math. The simplestway to compute an irregularly shaped pool is to picture it in various bits andpieces in regular shapes. Try picturing it as a smaller, separate pool inrectangle, square, or circle within the larger, irregularly shaped pool.

When youve fractioned them in various pieces, measure them and apply the same formula shared above for each corresponding shape. That is, if you have a rectangle fraction, apply the formula for rectangular pools to find the volume in that segment. When you have done this for all parts of the pool, sum the values gotten together and you will have a close approximate value of the irregular pools total volume in gallons.

Honestly, this could be an uncertain method but thereis no way you can accurately measure and compute the exact pool volume of anirregular swimming pool. Supposing your pool is so out of shape, kindly seekprofessional help.
