How To Install A Pool Liner

Kayak Pools Midwest Jodie Johnston

Installing a pool liner yourself is complex and may void your manufacturers warranty. However, if you have experience working with vinyl material, you could save about $1,000 and install it in one weekend.

  • Drain the pool. For an above-ground pool, you will need a small submersible pump.
  • Remove the liner you want to replace and prep the floor and walls. If you have a sand bottom, you can use this chance to smooth any uneven patches out of it.
  • If the floor is concrete, then do a sweep, even if you do not see anything. There could be grit and pebbles that blend in with the flooring. Inspect the walls for rust, and duct tape over bolt heads and holes to prevent rust. Sand down and paint over any rust you find. If you find rust at floor level, pack sand using a trowel against the wall.
  • Place the new liner. Warm weather is ideal for best results, as the heat lets the liner stretch more easily. For overlap liners, you can use clothespins or pinch clamps to secure it to the edge. Make sure the lining is evenly overlapping the edge all the way around. Pull the liner towards the wall until there are no wrinkles. Youll want the liner ideally 1 inch above the floor. For beaded liners, insert it fully and make sure it is adequately draped around the entire pool. Shift the liner in the track for any diagonal wall wrinkles. The liner should be raised above the floor slightly, as it should not be lying on the floor entirely.

    Inground Vs Above Ground Pool

Inground or built-in pools are more expensive to install but do last longer than above-ground pools. Bear in mind, inground pools might negatively affect the resale of your home, and not everyone is okay with the required maintenance and expense of owning a pool. Above-ground pools are easier to remove.

    • Sizes Above-ground pools can be as large as an inground pool. Most above-ground pools have a uniform depth rather than having a deep end and shallow end in the pool.
    • Maintenance Inground and above-ground pools require about the same maintenance. It is more difficult to clean an above-ground pool if it does not have a deck.
    • Longevity The average above-ground pool will last 7 to 15 years and above-ground pool liners last about six years. The durability of an inground pool depends upon the type of pool. Inground pools last at least 10 years, and some will last over 20 years.

    Vinyl Liner Inground Pools

    Recessed Pool Galleries

Vinyl liner pools are usually the least expensive inground pool option. This is mainly due to the fact that the materials for a vinyl liner are inexpensive.

For a very basic, medium-sized vinyl liner pool without patio, you can expect to spend $20,000$30,000.

Other options such as heaters, covers, decking, etc., will certainly escalate this price.

Kayak Pools Midwest: Why Kayak Pools?

Here are some reviews from our users.

“I havent gotten my pool yet but Ive had a kayak at a previous home so went back to kayak for this pool. So far, my issue is not with Kayak but with the credit union they set me up with. Lafayette Federal Credit Union easily gave me a loan. But since then, dealing with them has been a nightmare. If you plan to buy a Kayak find your own financing. Dont use LFCU. Youll regret it every time you try to make a payment or try to call them. I sure hope my pool delivery and installation goes better. Im really starting to regret going back to Kayak.”

“The selling process was super easy and the customer service was great in the beginning. Then comes the waiting part, knowing the issues this country is facing we expected a long delay. Just past the mark we had a family issue and needed to cancel the pool. Thankfully the customer service was understanding and is issuing a full refund. We didn’t want to cancel, but family is first and Kayak completely understood and supported our decision.”

“We researched a lot of different companies before deciding on Kayak pools. They came out reviewed everything scheduled the installation, processed all the permits required and met every time line they gave us. We have been enjoying our Kayak pool ever since. I would recommend them if you are looking for a very nice low maintenance pool for your family enjoyment.”

    Tips On Proper Testing

Kayak Pools Midwest: Above Ground Pool Install

    1. TEST OFTEN. The best way to treat pool water problems is to prevent them from happening in the first place. Testing enables you to compensate for changes in the water before problems develop, caused by bather load, weather, and other environmental factors. Test each end of the pool a minimum of twice per week.

    2. PROPER STORAGE. Keep your Test Kit in a cool dark place. Too much heat, sunlight or freezing may chemically change the indicators.

    3. KEEP YOUR HANDS CLEAN. Dirty fingers may contaminate the test.

Pros And Cons Of An Above

Like any addition to a property, above-ground pools have positive and negative attributes to consider. Above-ground pools are usually less expensive and easier to install. They also typically have lower-maintenance and ongoing costs and are generally easier to keep clean.

However, most above-ground pools are more limited in size and shape than in-ground pools. Above-ground pools are likely round, oval, or rectangular, and most are sold in kits with pre-determined sizes. There are few, if any, custom options available, so getting one with a specific size or depth may not be possible.

Above-ground pools do not last as long as in-ground pools and must be repaired or replaced within 3 to 10 years, depending on the material and construction. They may also hurt your homes resale value because they are not considered a permanent structure.
