With this pool deck, you will not need a ladder that goes on the outside of your above ground pool. This deck plan comes with the plans for the stairs, supports as well as the railings needed.
At the top of the stairs to the deck, there will be a gate. For safety purposes, this is very important, and the gate should have a locking mechanism as well. The actual deck on this pool will only cover about a quarter pool, leaving a beautiful view out of the majority of the pool. If your above ground pool is in a nice setting, this may be a great option. With the smaller size on this platform pool deck, you will also spend considerably less than other options out there.

When Installing Your Pool Deck Be Careful
- DONT install the deck in frequently wet areas. Use terra firma dry land.
- DONT build the deck right on top of your top rail if you use a winter cover.
- DO take your time with the instructions, and you will build it to last.
- DONT rest any part of the deck against the pool, as it will weaken the pools integrity.
- DONT make the deck much taller than the pool. Its hard to find very tall ladders.
- DO install the deck area on the side closest to the house.
- DONT block the full view of the pool.
If you get a wooden pool deck, you have different options of entering the pool. Deck to pool ladders use deck flanges to secure the ladder to the deck. A much better option are resin walk-in steps. - The pool cover track must be a minimum of 1 past the step if step is outside the perimeter of the pool.
- The pool cover track width must be a minimum 3 wider than the pool on each side.
- The pool cover must extend 2 3 from the deep end when using the bench options.
- The pool cover track length must be a minimum 1-1/2 longer than the pool on each end.
- If you have stone or brick pool coping, then the cover track width must be made wider.
- If your pool cover bench will be more than 1 from the swimming pools edge then the track length must be longer.
Solid Covers For Above Ground Pools
The solid pool cover is by far the most common cover out there. They are the most versatile and are used to winterize pools. Solid covers are given this name, because they are made out of waterproof material. Solid pool covers are bigger than your above ground pools dimensions to ensure you can cover the entire pool and have plenty of overlap which will cover the top seats and the outside of the pool. Most come with a cable that loop through the eyelets that are found along the edge. A winch is used to tighten the cable to secure the cover to the outside of the pool wall. This will discourage small animals from getting in the pool and high winds from blowing off the cover. Now before you say, Thats the one I need, this type of cover has one negative.

This is one of my favorite above ground pool designs. The wood deck functions as both stairs and seating. Really, its a very clever and attractive way to wrap the pool. Siding wraps the retaining wall around two sides of the pool, but it could also have stone, brick or nearly any other decorative treatment.
At only 8×18 ft. in size, this pool is also a great space saver, and could be tucked most anywhere. Something like this is especially useful for narrow urban backyards, or for when you want to preserve space in the backyard for other activities.
