Installing A Mesh Fence

Removable Mesh Type Pool Fence Installation and Take Down

The strongest and most secure construction technique is to attach the mesh fencing to a frame of wood posts and rails. The weakest technique is to attach the fencing to metal posts. A reasonable middle ground for many purposes is to use wood posts for all terminal posts and metal for the intermediate or line posts.

First, use a string line to establish a straight fence line, and drive wooden stakes into the ground to mark the location of the posts. There really is no exact science as far as post spacing goes with these types of lightweight fences. Much depends on the size of the posts, the depth at which they are buried, the type of soil they are buried in, the severity of winds, and the specific function of the fence they will be supporting. To ensure a tight fence in residential settings, my recommendation is to space the posts no more than 10 feet apart. For purely agricultural purposes, however, you can usually get away with spacing wood posts up to 16 feet apart and metal posts about 12 feet apart. If you want to research the matter further, talk with a good fence supplier or installer in your area.

Metal fence posts are driven into the ground with a heavy maul or sledgehammer or with a manual or air-powered post driver. Check with your fencing supplier or a local rental yard to see if they have post drivers. You may find it easier to start each post standing on a ladder, and drive the posts so that they remain as close to plumb as possible.

Take The Pool Safely Pledge

The Pledge is a call-to-action for everyone to commit to specific steps to be safer in and around the water.

Kids will pledge to never swim alone, ask for swim lessons and stay away from drains.

Adults will pledge to always designate a water watcher, learn CPR, make their kids know how to swim, remove portable pool ladders when not in use and ensure their pools have proper fencing, gates and drain covers.

Visit to electronically sign the Pledge or to request a hard copy.

Are Pool Fences A Requirement

Generally speaking, to have a swimming pool on your property, you will need to have some sort of enclosure that prevents outsiders from accessing it. The fence doesn’t necessarily need to be a pool fence. Often you’ll fulfill that requirement by having a fenced-in yard. Also, depending on where you live, residential swimming pools are regulated by the state and county. Many states require all pools to be enclosed by a four-foot barrier with openings no wider than four inches and equipped with self-closing and self-latching gates.

While a fenced-in yard might prevent outsiders from hopping onto your property and jumping into your pool when they shouldn’t, it won’t be enough to protect the people who live in your household. If you have young children, a pool fence is practically a must. The same goes for if you’re worried about a pet getting into your pool when you’re not paying attention.

Keep in mind that a swimming pool is already considered an attractive nuisance, a feature on your property that could draw in young trespassers, cost you more in homeowners insurance, and open you up to liability. Putting up a pool fence could help protect you from lawsuits and prevent horrendous accidents in your backyard.

Bottom line.

Im sorry I hadnt done this before. I am convinced now, that my removable pool fence lets me sleep better at night. I know if one of my kids sneaks out of the side yard, or slips away when we are out front, there is less chance of him ending up in the pool.

Be aware that not all residential drownings occur at home. Children are often less supervised when visiting another home for a party or event. Even a neighbors unsecured pool presents a hazard.

Before anyone that came in our yard could get in the pool. Now, over eager kids who race around the house to go to the pool are met with a self closing gate.

  • Supervision: Your swimming pool should always have adult supervision in case of an accident. This applies to adults as well because anything can happen.
  • Safety Devices: You should provide safety devices to swimmers. Some of the safety devices include life jackets and safety pols. You should also have a first aid kit and a ring buoy to help swimmers out of the pool. Also, having built-in ladders in your pool is vital because it makes getting out of the pool easier.

Turning To The Fence Professional

Of course, not everyone is comfortable doing their own work around the house. Whether you dont even know what a drill looks like, or you would just rather have an experienced hand help with such an important job, it is always an option to contract this work out to a pro. There are plenty of construction businesses who offer professional pool fence installation, and many of them will do the work for a modest price. As is the case with any other kind of work you hire out, it is important to take your time to pick the right company for the job. Some of the points to consider include the following

  • Overall cost of the project
  • Installation time and company availability
  • Track record of the business, previous reviews

The best course of action is to contact at least a couple potential contractors before you make your final selection. You dont necessarily need to go with the lowest bid, but you should at least have an idea of what a competitive rate for this work is before you sign a contract. If you are going to go the professionally-installed route, we have a page dedicated to helping you navigate that process successfully.

The Fence Installation Process

When you search for good quality in installing the fence of your pool, you should consider both aesthetics and safety. Most often, pool owners are only focused on the features and price offered by the contractor, and fail to assess the credibility of the company that will do the job.

In preserving the appearance of your patio, the quality of installing the fence is important. If you look around, youll notice that there are fences made with sagging mesh and crooked posts. Those are the types of installations that you should not prefer because they will just destroy the beautiful look of your pool and patio.

What qualities you should look for a contractor

They have a good reputation in the fence installation industry.

They can present samples of previous works.

The contractor should have a team of highly trained and experienced professionals who can really do the job.

During the planning stage, there are major concerns that you have to discuss with the contractor. First, you should determine the distance from the pools edge on each side where you want to install the fence. You should also pinpoint where the location of fence openings would be.

Then you have to make an appropriate design on the contours of your fence. Do you want to have a design that follows the shape of your pool, or you prefer to contour it in order to maximize certain areas in your patio?

How the fence installation process is done

The last step is installing the self closing gate.

Simple Care For Your Mesh Pool Fence

How to Install Sentry Safety Mesh Pool Fence

One of the advantages of a mesh safety fence for pools is the relatively simple care and maintenance process. The fence itself can be washed with a basic solution of soap and water. It is important to wash the fence periodically, as leaving it dirty can cause degradation over time. Additionally, you may want to take the fence down from time to time, just to give the poles a cleaning and to blow out the holes.

Mesh pool fences are a leading option in this market for a reason. They are relatively affordable, they are attractive, add a safety barrier for your child, and they can be taken down when necessary. If you are getting ready to add a pool fence to your property, dont make your final decision before at least considering this type of product.
