What Is An Overlap Pool Liner

Ashland MA Bead Track and Liner Replacement

Overlap liners are easy to identify as they simply go up the inside of the pool wall and hang over on the outside, leaving several inches of excess vinyl visible. Overlap liners are the most affordable liners because they dont need a bead or finished edge to work in a pool, therefore theyre less expensive to manufacture. They attach to the top of the pool wall and are held in place with strips of plastic called liner coping strips. The coping simply pinches down on the liner holding it tight on to the pool wall while protecting the vinyl liner from the metal or resin stabilizer bars. Overlap liners are available in various thicknesses and prints. They are made to fit 48 52 or 54 pool walls.

Whats Under The Above Ground Pool Liner

Whoa, there! Before you just throw a new liner in the pool and call it good, make sure you also get a hiqh-quality liner pad. Its a protective layer that goes between the ground and the pool liner. It helps prevent punctures and lumps youd get if the liner were just sitting on bare ground.

Liner pads are made from two materials.

How To Choose The Correct Replacement Liner For Above Ground Pools

  • Determine what type of pool liner you need. Above ground swimming pools are built to accommodate either an overlap style liner or a beaded style liner. The difference between a beaded style liner, and an overlap style liner is the way the liner is held in place at the top of the swimming pool. Beaded aboveground pool liners have a very small groove or lip at the top edge of the liner. This small lip is snapped into a track all the way around the inside of the swimming pool at the very top of the pool wall, to hold the pool liner in place. If your swimming pool requires a beaded pool liner, you will be able to see this track by looking under the top rail on the inside of the above ground swimming pool.
  • An overlap style liner is folded over the wall of the swimming pool and held in place underneath the top rail of the above ground swimming pool. If your swimming pool requires an overlap style liner, you can see a small amount of the pool liner under the top rail on the outside of the swimming pool. To install an overlap pool liner, the top rail of the above ground pool is removed all the way around the pool. The new liner is then placed in the pool and draped over the top of the thin metal wall of the pool. Long plastic coping clips, along with a top metal rim, are placed over the liner and the metal wall to hold the liner in place. The top rails are then re-installed over the new liner.

Preparing The Liner To Be Installed

Install the liner on a warm, windless day. A warm liner is much easier to work with. The ideal temperature is 60-95 F. When too hot, the liner becomes easy to over stretch or puncture. If the liner core temp is too low, it can crack in the folds. Storing the liner in temperatures lower than 55F is not recommended for this reason. After you have checked the label for size, print, and style accuracy, open your liner box carefully so the liner is not damaged. Do not use sharp objects to open the liner box. You can unfold the liner inside the pool, or outside on the grass. Make sure there are no sticks, rocks, metal pool parts, or sharp items in the area that can puncture your liner.

PRO TIP: If cooler, warm the liner in advance in a climate-controlled room. Take the liner out of the box and unfold a few folds. This will allow the liners temperature to be raised and make it easier to work with.

Note: Installing the liner is easier with multiple people. Time to call in some friends. 2 people at minimum.

    • Spread the liner around the inside of the pool. If you are doing this from inside the pool, step lightly to minimize footprints in the sand, or make cardboard snowshoes with duct tape. Again, no sharp items.

Why Do Different Companies Have The Same Pool Liner Patterns With Different Names

Bestway – baseny caoroczne wzmacnianie stalow obudow

Some pool liner manufacturers design a pattern and have their suppliers print them. Creating a print gives them an advantage, as they hold the patent for the design. Suppliers cant just take a picture of anothers liner and sell it as their own.

The suppliers that provide the material to manufacturers also have in-house designers their prints often get sold to many liner manufacturers. Liner manufacturers can name the patterns designed by suppliers anything they want .

This branding/naming is why you see the same liner pattern sold by different companies, with different names. They are buying vinyl from the same suppliers. Remember, just because the design is the same, it does not mean the thickness is also the same. The same print is often used on five pieces of vinyl of various thickness and quality.

What Is The Difference Between A Beaded Liner And An Overlap Liner

Aboveground pool liners with beaded edges feature a very little groove or lip at the top edge of the liner. An overlap type liner is folded over the swimming pool wall and secured beneath the top rail of the above-ground swimming pool. The beaded edge liner is easier to install than the overlap type.

The bead on the beaded edge liner helps to prevent the liner from being pulled off of the pool wall when water pressure pushes down on the liner. This type of liner is usually made out of vinyl and is long lasting. The overlap type liner is also called a “wrap” liner and is usually made of polyethylene. This type of liner overlaps the side of the pool by about 3 inches and is secured to the pool wall with adhesive strips or straps. These can be removed when needed for maintenance or cleaning.

Installing Aboveground Pool Liners: First, measure the width of the pool wall across the area where you plan to place the liner. Make sure that you allow enough room around the perimeter of the pool for you to attach the liner later. If your pool has an inner liner, do not remove it when installing the outer liner. This will make removing debris from behind the inner liner much simpler once spring temperatures arrive.

    Pool Liner Colors And Patterns

    18

After narrowing down your choices by shape, size, depth, and attachment method, you come to the fun part choosing your pool liner color and pattern.

In the early days, above ground pool liners were only available in a solid light blue color. Pool liners now are available in darker colors and with decorative patterns. Dark pool liners have a slight solar benefit in that theyll absorb more heat. However, sun and chemical fading may be more noticeable with darker liners than with lighter colors.

Pool liners with patterns offer the advantage of hiding seams, wrinkles, and dirt better than a solid light blue liner, and they also impart a richer hue of color to the water. Printed tile border patterns add another design element, and extend the range of choices for the pool owner.

BONUS TIP: To preserve your liner color and reduce fading, always maintain proper water balance, especially pH and alkalinity levels. A chlorine level of less than 2.5 ppm is best. You can also shock your pool with Fresh N Clear chlorine-free shock, which will never bleach or stain a vinyl pool liner.

Overlap Liners Just as the name suggests the liner literally overlaps/drapes over the side of your pool wall and is then secured by the pool’s top rails. This is also the kind of liner you’ll end up with with you’re looking to install an above-ground pool with a deep end.

This guide is meant to provide additional resources gathered over the years from Royal Swimming Pools installation team. It does not replace your manufacturers liner installation instructions. Refer to them first.

IMPORTANT: Before opening your liner box, check the label to confirm that the liner is the proper size and pattern. If it is incorrect, DO NOT open the box. Contact your supplier immediately.

There are several steps that are the same regardless of the size or shape liner you have. Before installing your liner, the pool needs to be built to where only the small stabilizer rails and top plates are installed. Having the top plates loosely installed with a single screw will make adjusting the liner quicker. The wide top rails are not needed yet. All uprights should be installed, and you should double check the roundness of the pool by taking cross measurements in several places.

PRO TIP: Give yourself plenty of time. This can be done in as little as an hour, or weve seen it take as long as 4 hours depending on the liners fit and how much help you have.

PREPARING THE LINER TO BE INSTALLED

What Is A True Bead Pool Liner

They are called beaded liners, because they have a thick bead of vinyl at the top of the liner. This fits into a track and then the liner hangs down and into the pool. A bead receiver or track has to be added all the way around the top of the wall so the bead of the liner has something to attach to.

    Beaded Liners Vs Overlap Liners

When purchasing a swimming pool liner for your above ground pool, the first step is to determine whether you need a beaded liner or an overlap liner. The difference between these two types of liners has to do with how they are installed. Beaded pool liners feature a small groove that runs along the top edge or lip of the liner’s top edge. During installation, that groove will snap into a track, also known as a bead receiver, along the top inside edge of the pool wall. To determine whether or not your above ground swimming pool is designed to accommodate a beaded pool liner, check under the top rail located on the inside of the pool. If your pool is meant to accommodate a beaded liner, the bead receiver will be visible.

In contrast to beaded liners, overlap above ground pool liners are installed by removing the swimming pool’s top rail and folding or draping the liner over the walls. Plastic clips are used to secure the liner before the top rail is replaced. Any excess fabric hanging down on the outside of the pool walls following installation can simply be trimmed away with scissors. When checking under the top rail of your above ground pool, you will be able to see some of the liner on the outside of the pool if it is designed to accommodate an overlap liner.

Pool Liner Type: Beaded Vs Overlap

How to build a natural swimming pool in 5 days

Pool liners come in a range of different styles by which they are hung on the wall of a pool.

    • Overlap liners are amongst the most commonly used, and the material is simply hung over the wall of the pool and locked in place with a piece of plastic coping. This leaves spare vinyl material hanging on the outside of the pool than can be rolled up underneath the top rails after installation. It can be more difficult to properly install overlap liners with colored borders, as there is no tracking piece to ensure youre installing the border line straight. Overlap liners are generally a less expensive option.
    • UniBead liners come with a universal bead system installed. The liner has two clips, a J-hook style that comes with a lip on the edge that slips over the wall of the pool, as well as a standard clip that can fit into an existing bead track. This can make installation simpler as there is no excess material to account for, making alignment of the border of the liner significantly easier. Below weve included a video explaining how a beaded liner is installed for those unfamiliar.
