Over a long winter off-season, metals like copper and iron can build up in the pool and cause stains. These metals can be difficult to remove once they’ve reached concentrations where they’re staining the walls, so it’s best to attack them early. One initial dose of METALfree during spring opening can help neutralize the metals in your pool and prevent further staining on the walls and pool floor. Remove Excess Water With A Sump Pump Before Taking Off Pool Cover
If you have a winter cover or a solid safety cover, chances are a fair amount of water and debris has built up on the cover during the long winter off-season. Pool covers can be difficult to remove when water is on them, so we recommend using a sump pump to drain the water off the cover before moving it.
It is best to use two people when taking the cover off of the pool, because even with most of the water drained off, pool covers can still be quite heavy. Take care not to spill too much debris from the cover into the pool, or else it’ll take longer to open the pool. If a small amount of water or debris does spill in, don’t worry. The pool will soon be thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed.

Here Are The Steps And Instructions To Follow:
1. Fill your hot tub with water from a garden hose. Note that filling through the skimmer basket can help prevent an airlock in your circulating pump.
2. Turn thermostat OFF at equipment system in cabinet, and at command center .
3. Turn power ON at your disconnect box.
4. Be sure ON/OFF switch is ON at equipment system in cabinet.
5. Be sure the hi-limit switch is pushed in on equipment system .
6. Check to be sure the circulating pump is operating .
One jet may be the ozonator jet and may not appear to be working, this is okay.
You can also check the clear tube coming out of the small circulating pump, and going into the heater housing, to see if the water is flowing properly.
7. Run jets for 2-3 minutes with the heat still in the OFF position.
8. Check to be sure there are no air locks at:
- Filter
- Circulating pump
- Therapy water pump
9. Check for water leaks at couplers on pumps and heater housing. Hand tighten if necessary.
10. Turn temperature on the command center to maximum level.
Periodically check temperature of water to until desired temperature is reached. Reduce thermostat setting until HEAT light turns off.
11. Add initial chemicals according to the Refilling Your Spa section of the Operation and Care Guide.
12. 24 to 48 hours after the spa has been operational, check alkalinity and pH with test strips or test kitadjust accordingly.
Do not complete this step until this water is hot and has been in for 24 or more hours.
Remove Your Winter Pool Cover
Once youve tidied things up, with your friends help, carefully remove the cover. Dont drag it, and take care to keep any lingering debris from falling into the pool.
A little dirt and debris falling into the water isnt the end of the world. But thinking ahead can save you headaches later when you break out your chemicals and tools in pursuit of a truly clean pool.
If youve installed a pool air pillow with your cover, be sure to remove it along with your cover. You can deflate the air pillow once its safely out of your pool.
