Could You Get Sick

The Center for Disease control, who the Indiana Department of Health cited in its recommendations, noted that there is little evidence that the Coronavirus can be spread through the disinfected water typically found in pools. But the department urged that there is high risk of spread from person-to-person. Social distancing is encouraged around and in the pool area and frequently-touched surfaces will require disinfecting readily, the departments recommendations say.

Don’t stop now:Indiana is reopening. It’s Memorial Day. You still need to social distance, officials say.

According to USA Today, the CDC said swimmers are also discouraged from sharing gear like goggles. Swimmers should also wear masks when feasible outside of the water, but not inside the water because wet masks are difficult to breathe through. USA Todays report noted the CDC also continued to recommend hygiene measures like covering coughs and washing hands to prevent the spread of disease.
